1 Mooseksen 32
1 Mutta Jaakob kulki tietänsä; ja Jumalan enkeleitä tuli häntä vastaan.
But Iacob went forth on his iourney. And the angells of God came and mett him.
2 Ja nähdessään heidät Jaakob sanoi: "Tämä on Jumalan sotajoukkoa". Ja hän antoi sille paikalle nimen Mahanaim.
And when Iacob sawe them he sayde: this is godes hoost: and called the name of that same place Mahanaim.
3 Sitten Jaakob lähetti sanansaattajat edellään veljensä Eesaun luo Seirin maahan, Edomin alueelle.
Iacob sente meessengers before him to Esau his brother vnto the lande of Seir and the felde of Edom.
4 Ja hän käski heitä sanoen: "Sanokaa herralleni Eesaulle näin: 'Sinun palvelijasi Jaakob sanoo: Minä olen oleskellut Laabanin luona ja viipynyt siellä tähän saakka;
And he comaunded them saynge: se that ye speake after this maner to my lorde Esau: thy seruaunte Iacob sayth thus. I haue sogerned ad bene a straunger with Laban vnto this tyme:
5 ja minä olen saanut raavaita, aaseja, pikkukarjaa, palvelijoita ja palvelijattaria ja lähetän nyt sanan herralleni, että saisin armon sinun silmiesi edessä'."
and haue gotten oxen asses and shepe menservauntes and wemanseruauntes and haue sent to shewe it mi lorde that I may fynde grace in thy syghte.
6 Sanansaattajat palasivat Jaakobin luo ja sanoivat: "Me tulimme veljesi Eesaun luo; hän on jo matkalla sinua vastaan, neljäsataa miestä mukanaan".
And the messengers came agayne to Iacob sainge: we came vnto thi brother Esau and he cometh ageynst the and. iiij. hundred men with hi.
7 Silloin valtasi Jaakobin suuri pelko ja ahdistus. Ja hän jakoi väen, joka oli hänen kanssansa, ja pikkukarjan ja raavaskarjan ja kamelit kahteen joukkoon.
Than was Iacob greatlye afrayde and wist not which waye to turne him selfe and devyded the people that was with him and the shepe oxen and camels in to. ij. companies
8 Sillä hän ajatteli: "Jos Eesau hyökkää toisen joukon kimppuun ja tuhoaa sen, niin toinen joukko pääsee pakoon".
and sayde: Yf Esau come to the one parte and smyte it the other may saue it selfe.
9 Ja Jaakob sanoi: "Isäni Aabrahamin Jumala ja isäni Iisakin Jumala, Herra, sinä, joka sanoit minulle: 'Palaja maahasi ja sukusi luo, niin minä teen sinulle hyvää!'
And Iacob sayde: O god of my father Abraham and God of my father Isaac: LORde which saydest vnto me returne vnto thy cuntre and to thy kynrede and I will deall wel with the.
10 Minä olen liian halpa kaikkeen siihen armoon ja kaikkeen siihen uskollisuuteen, jota sinä olet palvelijallesi osoittanut; sillä ainoastaan sauva kädessäni minä kuljin tämän Jordanin yli, ja nyt on minulle karttunut kaksi joukkoa.
I am not worthy of the leaste of all the mercyes and treuth which thou hast shewed vnto thy seruaunte. For with my staf came I over this Iordane and now haue Igoten. ij. droves
11 Pelasta minut veljeni Eesaun käsistä, sillä minä pelkään, että hän tulee ja tuhoaa minut ynnä äidit lapsineen.
Delyver me from the handes of my brother Esau for I feare him: lest he will come and smyte the mother with the childeru.
12 Olethan itse sanonut: 'Minä teen sinulle hyvää ja annan sinun jälkeläistesi luvun tulla paljoksi kuin meren hiekka, jota ei voida lukea sen paljouden tähden'."
Thou saydest that thou woldest surely do me good and woldest make mi seed as the sonde of the see which can not be nombred for multitude.
13 Ja hän jäi siihen siksi yöksi. Sitten hän erotti omaisuudestaan lahjaksi veljelleen Eesaulle
And he taried there that same nyghte and toke of that which came to hande a preasent vnto Esau his brother:
14 kaksisataa vuohta ja kaksikymmentä vuohipukkia, kaksisataa uuhta ja kaksikymmentä oinasta,
ij hundred she gootes ad xx he gootes: ij hundred shepe and xx rammes:
15 kolmekymmentä imettävää kamelia varsoinensa, neljäkymmentä lehmää ja kymmenen härkää, kaksikymmentä aasintammaa ja kymmenen aasia.
thyrtye mylch camels with their coltes: xl kyne ad x bulles: xx she asses ad foles
16 Ja hän jätti ne palvelijainsa haltuun, kunkin lauman erikseen, ja sanoi palvelijoilleen: "Menkää minun edelläni ja jättäkää välimatka kunkin lauman välille".
and delyuered them vnto his seruauntes euery drooue by them selues ad sayde vnto them: goo forth before me and put a space betwyxte euery drooue.
17 Ja hän käski ensimmäistä sanoen: "Kun veljeni Eesau kohtaa sinut ja kysyy: 'Kenen sinä olet, ja mihin menet, ja kenen ovat nuo elukat tuolla edelläsi?'
And he comaunded the formest sayngeWhe Esau my brother meteth the ad axeth the saynge: whose seruaute art thou and whither goost thou and whose ar these that goo before ye:
18 niin vastaa: 'Ne ovat palvelijasi Jaakobin, lähetetyt lahjaksi herralleni Eesaulle; ja katso, myös hän itse tulee jäljessämme'."
thou shalt say they be thy seruaunte Iacobs and are a present sent vnto my lorde Esau and beholde he him selfe cometh after vs.
19 Samoin hän käski toista ja kolmatta ja kaikkia muita, jotka laumoja ajoivat, sanoen: "Juuri näin on teidän sanottava Eesaulle, kun tapaatte hänet.
And so comaunded he the seconde ad euen so the thirde and lykewyse all that folowed the drooues sainge of this maner se that ye speake vnto Esau whe ye mete him
20 Ja sanokaa myös: 'Katso, sinun palvelijasi Jaakob tulee meidän jäljessämme'." Sillä hän ajatteli: "Minä koetan lepyttää häntä lahjalla, joka kulkee edelläni. Sitten astun itse hänen kasvojensa eteen; ehkä hän ottaa minut ystävällisesti vastaan."
ad saye more ouer. Beholde thy seruaunte Iacob cometh after vs for he sayde. I will pease his wrath with the present yt goth before me and afterward I will see him myself so peradventure he will receaue me to grace.
21 Niin lahja kulki hänen edellänsä, mutta itse hän jäi siksi yöksi leiriin.
So went the preset before him ad he taried all that nyghte in the tente
22 Mutta yöllä hän nousi, otti molemmat vaimonsa ja molemmat orjattarensa ja yksitoista lastansa ja meni kahlauspaikasta Jabbokin yli.
ad rose vp the same nyghte ad toke his. ij. wyves and his. ij. maydens and his. xi. sonnes and went ouer the foorde Iabok.

And he toke them ad sent the ouer the ryuer ad sent ouer that he had
24 Ja Jaakob jäi yksinänsä toiselle puolelle. Silloin painiskeli hänen kanssaan muuan mies päivän koittoon saakka.
ad taried behinde him selfe alone. And there wrastled a man with him vnto the breakynge of the daye.
25 Ja kun mies huomasi, ettei hän häntä voittanut, iski hän häntä lonkkaluuhun, niin että Jaakobin lonkka nyrjähti hänen painiskellessaan hänen kanssaan.
And when he sawe that he coude not prevayle agaynst him he smote hi vnder the thye and the senowe of Iacobs thy shranke as he wrastled with him.
26 Ja mies sanoi: "Päästä minut, sillä päivä koittaa". Mutta hän vastasi: "En päästä sinua, ellet siunaa minua".
And he sayde: let me goo for the daye breaketh. And he sayde: I will not lett the goo excepte thou blesse me.
27 Ja hän sanoi hänelle: "Mikä sinun nimesi on?" Hän vastasi: "Jaakob".
And he sayde vnto him: what is thy name? He answered: Iacob.
28 Silloin hän sanoi: "Sinun nimesi älköön enää olko Jaakob, vaan Israel, sillä sinä olet taistellut Jumalan ja ihmisten kanssa ja olet voittanut".
And he sayde: thou shalt be called Iacob nomore but Israell. For thou hast wrastled with God and with men ad hast preuayled.
29 Ja Jaakob kysyi ja sanoi: "Ilmoita nimesi". Hän vastasi: "Miksi kysyt minun nimeäni?" Ja hän siunasi hänet siinä.
And Iacob asked him sainge tell me thi name. And he sayde wherfore dost thou aske after my name? and he blessed him there.
30 Ja Jaakob antoi sille paikalle nimen Penuel, "sillä", sanoi hän, "minä olen nähnyt Jumalan kasvoista kasvoihin, ja kuitenkin on minun henkeni pelastunut".
And Iacob called the name of the place Peniel for I haue sene God face to face and yet is my lyfe reserved.
31 Ja kun hän oli kulkenut Penuelin ohitse, nousi aurinko; mutta hän ontui lonkkaansa.
And as he went ouer Peniel the sonne rose vpon him and he halted vpon his thye:
32 Sentähden israelilaiset eivät vielä tänäkään päivänä syö reisijännettä, joka kulkee lonkkaluun yli; sillä hän iski Jaakobia lonkkaluuhun, reisijänteen kohdalle.
wherfore the childern of Israell eate not of the senow that shrancke vnder the thye vnto this daye: because that he smote Iacob vnder the thye in the senow that shroncke.
