Hesekielin 18
1 Ja minulle tuli tämä Herran sana:
The word of Jehovah came to me again, saying:
2 "Mikä teillä on, kun te lausutte tätä pilkkalausetta Israelin maasta: 'Isät söivät raakoja rypäleitä, lasten hampaat heltyivät'?
What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, “The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge”?
3 Niin totta kuin minä elän, sanoo Herra, Herra, ei tule teidän enää lausua tätä pilkkalausetta Israelissa.
As I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel.
4 Katso, kaikki sielut ovat minun: niinkuin isän sielu, niin pojankin sielu-ne ovat minun. Se sielu, joka syntiä tekee-sen on kuoltava.
Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son, is mine; the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
5 Jos mies on vanhurskas ja tekee oikeuden ja vanhurskauden:
But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right;
6 ei syö uhrivuorilla, ei luo silmiänsä Israelin heimon kivijumaliin, ei saastuta lähimmäisensä vaimoa, ei ryhdy naiseen, joka on kuukautistilassa,
if he eat not upon the mountains, and lift not up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, and defile not his neighbor's wife, and come not near a woman during her uncleanness;
7 ei sorra toista, vaan antaa takaisin velanpantin, ei riistä eikä raasta, vaan antaa leipäänsä nälkäiselle, verhoaa vaatteella alastonta,
if he oppress not any, if he restore to the debtor his pledge, spoil none by violence, give his bread to the hungry, and cover the naked with a garment;
8 ei anna rahaansa korolle, ei ota voittoa, vaan pidättää kätensä vääryydestä, tekee oikean tuomion miesten välillä,
if he give not forth upon usury, and take not increase; if he withdraw his hand from iniquity, and give true judgment between man and man;
9 vaeltaa minun käskyjeni mukaan ja noudattaa minun oikeuksiani, niin että tekee sitä, mikä oikein on-hän on vanhurskas, hän totisesti saa elää, sanoo Herra, Herra.
if he walk in my statutes and keep my commandments, to deal uprightly, —he is just; he shall surely live, saith the Lord Jehovah.
10 Mutta jos hänelle on syntynyt poika, väkivaltainen, verenvuodattaja, joka tekee yhtäkin näistä,
But if he have a son that is a robber, a shedder of blood, and that doeth to his brother any of these things,
11 mitä hän itse ei ole tehnyt: syö uhrivuorilla, saastuttaa lähimmäisensä vaimon,
and doeth not all those duties, but eateth upon the mountains, and defileth his neighbor's wife,
12 sortaa kurjaa ja köyhää, riistää ja raastaa, ei anna takaisin panttia, luo silmänsä kivijumaliin, tekee kauhistuksia,
oppresseth the poor and needy, spoileth by violence, restoreth not the pledge, lifteth up his eyes to idols, and committeth abomination,
13 antaa rahansa korolle ja ottaa voittoa-saisiko tämä elää? Ei hän saa elää: kaikkia näitä kauhistuksia hän on tehnyt, hänet on kuolemalla rangaistava; hän on verivelan alainen.
giveth forth upon usury, and taketh increase, shall he live? No! he shall not live. He hath done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him.
14 Mutta katso, jos tälle on syntynyt poika ja hän näkee kaikki isänsä synnit, jotka tämä on tehnyt-näkee ne eikä tee sellaisia:
Yet lo, if he have a son that seeth all the sins which his father committed, that seeth them and doeth not such like,
15 ei syö uhrivuorilla, ei luo silmiänsä Israelin heimon kivijumaliin, ei saastuta lähimmäisensä vaimoa,
that eateth not upon the mountains, nor lifteth up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, nor defileth his neighbor's wife,
16 ei sorra toista, ei ota panttia, ei riistä eikä raasta, vaan antaa leipäänsä nälkäiselle, verhoaa vaatteella alastonta,
nor oppresseth any, nor taketh a pledge, nor spoileth by violence, but giveth his food to the hungry, and covereth the naked with a garment,
17 pidättää kätensä kurjasta, ei ota korkoa eikä voittoa, vaan tekee minun oikeuksieni mukaan, vaeltaa käskyjeni mukaan-hänen ei ole kuoltava isänsä syntivelan tähden, hän totisesti saa elää.
keepeth back his hand from the poor, and taketh no usury or increase, keepeth my commandments, and walketh in my statutes, he shall not die for the iniquity of his father; he shall surely live.
18 Hänen isänsä taas kun teki väkivallan töitä, riisti ja raastoi veljeltänsä ja teki kansansa keskuudessa sitä, mikä ei ole hyvää, niin katso, hänen oli kuoltava syntivelkansa tähden.
As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, spoiled his brother by violence, and did that which is not good among his people, lo, he shall die for his iniquity.
19 Ja vielä te kysytte: 'Minkätähden ei poika kanna isän syntivelkaa?' Kun poika on tehnyt oikeuden ja vanhurskauden, noudattanut kaikkia minun käskyjäni ja tehnyt niitten mukaan, hän totisesti saa elää. Se sielu, joka syntiä tekee-sen on kuoltava.
Yet say ye, “Why? Doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father?” When the son doeth that which is lawful and right, keepeth all my statutes and doeth them, he shall surely live.
20 Poika ei kanna isän syntivelkaa, eikä isä kanna pojan syntivelkaa. Vanhurskaan ylitse on tuleva hänen vanhurskautensa, ja jumalattoman ylitse on tuleva hänen jumalattomuutensa.
The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.
21 Ja jos jumalaton kääntyy pois kaikesta synnistänsä, mitä hän on tehnyt, ja noudattaa kaikkia minun käskyjäni ja tekee oikeuden ja vanhurskauden, hän totisesti saa elää; ei hänen ole kuoltava.
But if the wicked will turn from all his sins which he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
22 Ei yhtäkään hänen synneistänsä, jotka hän on tehnyt, muisteta; vanhurskautensa tähden, jota hän on noudattanut, hän saa elää.
None of his transgressions which he hath committed shall be remembered unto him; for his righteousness, which he hath done, he shall live.
23 Olisiko minulle mieleen jumalattoman kuolema, sanoo Herra, Herra; eikö se, että hän kääntyy pois teiltänsä ja elää?
Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die, saith the Lord Jehovah, and not that he should turn from his ways and live?
24 Ja jos vanhurskas kääntyy pois vanhurskaudestansa ja tekee vääryyttä, tekee kaikkien niiden kauhistusten kaltaisia, joita jumalaton tekee-saisiko hän tehdä niin ja elää? Ei yhtäkään hänen vanhurskasta tekoansa, jonka hän on tehnyt, muisteta. Uskottomuutensa tähden, johon hän on langennut, ja syntinsä tähden, jota on tehnyt, niiden tähden hänen on kuoltava.
But when the righteous turneth from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations which the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; for his trespass which he hath trespassed, and for his sin which he hath sinned, for them shall he die.
25 Ja vielä te sanotte: 'Herran tie ei ole oikea'. Kuulkaa siis, te Israelin heimo! Minunko tieni ei olisi oikea? Eikö niin: teidän omat tienne eivät ole oikeat!
Yet ye say, “The way of the Lord is not right.” Hear now, O house of Israel! “Is not my way right?” Is it not your ways that are not right?
26 Jos vanhurskas kääntyy pois vanhurskaudestansa ja tekee vääryyttä, sentähden hänen on kuoltava; vääryytensä tähden, jota on tehnyt, hänen on kuoltava.
When a righteous man turneth from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and on this account dieth, for his iniquity which he hath done doth he die.
27 Ja jos jumalaton kääntyy pois jumalattomuudestaan, jota on harjoittanut, ja tekee oikeuden ja vanhurskauden, hän säilyttää sielunsa elossa.
And when the wicked man turneth from his iniquity which he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.
28 Koska hän näki ja kääntyi pois kaikista synneistänsä, joita oli tehnyt, hän totisesti saa elää; ei hänen ole kuoltava.
Because he considereth and turneth from all his transgressions which he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
29 Mutta Israelin heimo sanoo: 'Herran tie ei ole oikea'. Minunko tieni eivät olisi oikeat, te Israelin heimo? Eikö niin: teidän omat tienne eivät ole oikeat!
Yet saith the house of Israel, “The way of the Lord is not right.” O house of Israel, are not my ways right? Is it not your ways that are not right?
30 Niinpä minä tuomitsen teidät, te Israelin heimo, itsekunkin hänen teittensä mukaan, sanoo Herra, Herra. Kääntykää, palatkaa pois kaikista synneistänne, ja älköön syntivelka tulko teille lankeemukseksi.
Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord Jehovah. Turn ye, turn yourselves from all your transgressions, so that iniquity may not be your ruin.
31 Heittäkää pois päältänne kaikki syntinne, joilla te olette rikkoneet, ja tehkää itsellenne uusi sydän ja uusi henki. Ja minkätähden te kuolisitte, Israelin heimo?
Cast away from you all your transgressions which ye have committed, and make you a new heart, and a new spirit! For why will ye die, O house of Israel?
32 Sillä ei ole minulle mieleen kuolevan kuolema, sanoo Herra, Herra. Siis kääntykää, niin te saatte elää."
For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord Jehovah. Wherefore turn yourselves and live!
