1 Samuelin 24
1 Ja kun Saul palasi ajamasta filistealaisia takaa, ilmoitettiin hänelle: "Katso, Daavid on Een-Gedin erämaassa".
When Saul was turned from ye Philistims, they told him, saying, Behold, Dauid is in the wildernes of En-gedi.
2 Niin Saul otti kolmetuhatta valiomiestä koko Israelista ja meni etsimään Daavidia ja hänen miehiään Kauriskallioiden itäpuolelta.
Then Saul tooke three thousande chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seeke Dauid and his men vpon the rocks among the wilde goates.
3 Ja kun hän tuli tien varrella oleville karjatarhoille, oli siellä luola; ja Saul meni luolaan tarpeelleen. Mutta Daavid ja hänen miehensä istuivat luolan perällä.
And hee came to the sheepecoates by the way where there was a caue, and Saul went in to do his easement: and Dauid and his men sate in the inward parts of the caue.
4 Niin Daavidin miehet sanoivat hänelle: "Katso, tämä on se päivä, josta Herra on sanonut sinulle: 'Minä annan vihamiehesi sinun käsiisi, tehdäksesi hänelle, mitä hyväksi näet'". Ja Daavid nousi ja leikkasi salaa kappaleen Saulin viitan liepeestä.
And the men of Dauid said vnto him, See, the day is come, whereof the Lord sayde vnto thee, Beholde, I will deliuer thine enemie into thine hande, and thou shalt doe to him as it shall seeme good to thee. Then Dauid arose and cut off the lap of Sauls garment priuily.
5 Mutta sen jälkeen Daavidin omatunto soimasi häntä siitä, että hän oli leikannut Saulin viitan lievettä.
And afterward Dauid was touched in his heart, because he had cut off the lappe which was on Sauls garment.
6 Ja hän sanoi miehillensä: "Pois se! Herra varjelkoon minua tekemästä sitä herralleni, Herran voidellulle, että satuttaisin käteni häneen; sillä hän on Herran voideltu".
And he said vnto his men, The Lord keepe mee from doing that thing vnto my master the Lords Anoynted, to lay mine hand vpon him: for he is the Anoynted of the Lord.
7 Ja Daavid kovisti miehiänsä eikä sallinut heidän hyökätä Saulin kimppuun. Niin Saul nousi luolasta ja meni matkaansa.
So Dauid ouercame his seruants with these words, and suffered them not to arise against Saul: so Saul rose vp out of the caue and went away.
8 Senjälkeen Daavid myös nousi, lähti luolasta ja huusi Saulin jälkeen: "Minun herrani, kuningas!" Kun Saul katsahti taaksensa, kumartui Daavid kasvoilleen maahan ja osoitti kunnioitusta.
Dauid also arose afterward, and went out of the caue, and cryed after Saul, saying, O my lorde the King. And when Saul looked behinde him, Dauid inclined his face to the earth, and bowed himselfe.
9 Ja Daavid sanoi Saulille: "Miksi sinä kuuntelet ihmisten puhetta, jotka sanovat: 'Daavid hankkii sinulle onnettomuutta'?
And Dauid saide to Saul, Wherefore giuest thou an eare to mens words, that say, Behold, Dauid seeketh euill against thee?
10 Katso, näethän nyt omin silmin, kuinka Herra tänä päivänä antoi sinut minun käsiini luolassa, mutta minä säästin sinut, vaikka minua neuvottiin tappamaan sinut; sillä minä ajattelin: 'Minä en satuta kättäni herraani; sillä hän on Herran voideltu'.
Behold, this day thine eyes haue seene, that the Lord had deliuered thee this day into mine hand in the caue, and some bade me kill thee, but I had compassion on thee, and said, I will not lay mine hande on my master: for he is the Lordes Anoynted.
11 Katso itse, isäni, katso tätä viittasi liepeen kappaletta, joka on minun kädessäni. Kun minä leikkasin sen sinun viittasi liepeestä enkä sinua tappanut, niin ymmärrä siitä ja näe, ettei minulla ole tekeillä mitään pahaa tai rikollista ja etten minä ole sinua vastaan rikkonut, vaikka sinä vainoat minua ottaaksesi minulta hengen.
Moreouer my father, behold: behold, I say, the lappe of thy garment in mine hand: for when I cut off the lappe of thy garment, I killed thee not. Vnderstad and see, that there is neither euil nor wickednesse in mee, neither haue I sinned against thee, yet thou huntest after my soule to take it.
12 Herra tuomitkoon meidän välillämme, minun ja sinun, ja Herra kostakoon sinulle minun puolestani, mutta minun käteni ei sinuun satu.
The Lord be iudge betweene thee and me, and the Lord auenge me of thee, and let not mine hand be vpon thee.
13 On, niinkuin vanha sananlasku sanoo: 'Jumalattomuus tulee jumalattomista'; mutta minun käteni ei sinuun satu.
According as the olde prouerbe sayeth, Wickednesse proceedeth from the wicked, but mine hand be not vpon thee.
14 Kenen jälkeen Israelin kuningas on lähtenyt? Ketä sinä ajat takaa? Koiranraatoa, yhtä kirppua!
After whom is the King of Israel come out? after whome doest thou pursue? after a dead dog, and after a flea?
15 Herra olkoon tuomari ja tuomitkoon meidän välillämme, minun ja sinun; hän nähköön ja ajakoon minun asiani ja auttakoon minut sinun käsistäsi oikeuteeni."
The Lord therfore be iudge, and iudge betweene thee and me, and see, and pleade my cause, and deliuer me out of thine hand.
16 Kun Daavid oli päättänyt tämän puheensa Saulille, sanoi Saul: "Eikö se ole sinun äänesi, poikani Daavid?" Ja Saul korotti äänensä ja itki.
Whe Dauid had made an end of speaking these words to Saul, Saul sayd, Is this thy voyce, my sonne Dauid? and Saul lift vp his voice, and wept,
17 Ja hän sanoi Daavidille: "Sinä olet minua vanhurskaampi, sillä sinä olet tehnyt minulle hyvää, vaikka minä olen tehnyt sinulle pahaa.
And sayd to Dauid, Thou art more righteous then I: for thou hast rendred me good, and I haue rendred thee euill.
18 Sinä olet tänä päivänä osoittanut hyvyyttäsi minua kohtaan, kun et tappanut minua, vaikka Herra oli antanut minut sinun käsiisi.
And thou hast shewed this day, that thou hast dealt well with me: forasmuch as when the Lord had closed me in thine hands, thou killedst me not.
19 Sillä kun joku kohtaa vihollisensa, päästääkö hän hänet menemään rauhassa? Herra palkitkoon sinulle runsaasti sen, mitä olet tänä päivänä tehnyt minulle.
For who shall finde his enemie, and let him depart free? wherefore the Lord render thee good for that thou hast done vnto me this day.
20 Ja katso, nyt minä tiedän, että sinä tulet kuninkaaksi ja että Israelin kuninkuus on pysyvä sinun kädessäsi.
For now behold, I know that thou shalt be King, and that the kingdome of Israel shall be stablished in thine hand.
21 Niin vanno nyt minulle Herran kautta, ettet hukuta minun jälkeläisiäni etkä hävitä minun nimeäni isäni suvusta."
Sweare now therfore vnto me by the Lord, that thou wilt not destroy my seede after me, and that thou wilt not abolish my name out of my fathers house.
22 Ja Daavid vannoi Saulille. Sitten Saul meni kotiinsa; mutta Daavid ja hänen miehensä nousivat vuorilinnaan.
So Dauid sware vnto Saul, and Saul went home: but Dauid and his men went vp vnto ye hold.
