Psalmien 8

1 Davidin Psalmi, edelläveisaajalle, Gittitin päällä. Herra meidän Herramme! kuinka ihmeellinen on sinun nimes kaikessa maassa, joka panit kunnias taivasten ylitse.

To the Chief Musician. On "the Gittith." A Melody of David. O Yahweh, our Lord! How majestic is thy Name, in all the earth, Who hast set thy splendour upon the heavens.

2 Nuorten lasten ja imeväisten suusta perustit sinä voiman, vihollistes tähden, ettäs vihollisen ja kostajan murentaisit.

Out of the mouth of children and sucklings, hast thou laid a foundation of strength, —because of thine adversaries, to make foe and avenger be still.

3 Sillä minä näen taivaat, sinun sormeis teot, kuun ja tähdet, jotka valmistit.

When I view thy heavens, the work, of thy fingers, moon and stars, which thou hast established,

4 Mikä on ihminen, ettäs häntä muistat? eli ihmisen poika, ettäs häntä etsiskelet?

What was weak man, that thou shouldst make mention of him? or the son of the earthborn, that thou shouldst set him in charge?

5 Sinä teit hänen vähää vähemmäksi enkeleitä; vaan sinä kaunistat hänen kunnialla ja kaunistuksella.

That thou shouldst make him little less than messengers of God, with glory and honour, shouldst crown him?

6 Sinä asetat hänen sinun käsitekois herraksi: kaikki olet sinä hänen jalkainsa alle heittänyt:

Shouldst give him dominion over the works of thy hands, —All things, shouldst have put under his feet:

7 Lampaat ja kaikki karjat, ja myös metsän eläimet,

Sheep and oxen, all of them, —yea even the beasts of the field;

8 Linnut taivaan alla ja kalat meressä ja mitä meressä vaeltaa.

The bird of the heavens, and the fishes of the sea, — the passer-by on the paths of the seas?

9 Herra meidän Herramme, kuinka ihmeellinen on sinun nimes kaikessa maassa!

O Yahweh, our Lord! How majestic is thy Name, in all the earth.
