Psalmien 124

1 Davidin veisu korkeimmassa Kuorissa. Ellei Herra olisi meidän kanssamme, niin sanokaan Israel:

A song of ascents. Of David. ‘Had it not been the Lord who was for us’ let Israel say

2 Ellei Herra olisi meidän kanssamme, koska ihmiset karkaavat meitä vastaan,

‘Had it not been the Lord who was for us when enemies rose against us,

3 Niin he nielisivät meidät elävältä, kuin heidän vihansa julmistuu meidän päällemme;

then alive they’d have swallowed us up, when their anger was kindled against us.

4 Niin vesi meitä upottais: kosket kävisivät sieluimme ylitse:

Then the waters would’ve swept us away, and the torrent passed over us clean:

5 Niin ylpiät veden aallot kävisivät sielumme ylitse.

then most sure would’ve passed over us clean the wild seething waters.’

6 Kiitetty olkoon Herra, joka ei meitä anna raatelukseksi heidän hampaillensa!

Blest be the Lord who has given us not to be torn by their teeth.

7 Meidän sielumme pääsi niinkuin lintu lintumiehen paulasta. Paula on särjetty, ja me olemme päästetyt.

We are like a bird just escaped from the snare of the fowler. The snare is broken, and we are escaped.

8 Meidän apumme on Herran nimessä, joka taivaan ja maan tehnyt on.

Our help is the name of the Lord, the Creator of heaven and earth.
