1 Kuin Israel Egyptistä läksi, Jakobin huone muukalaisesta kansasta,

When Israel left Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people who spoke a foreign language,

2 Niin Juuda tuli hänen pyhäksensä: Israel hänen vallaksensa.

Judah became his holy place, Israel his kingdom.

3 Sen meri näki ja pakeni: Jordan palasi takaperin,

The sea looked and fled; the Jordan turned back.

4 Vuoret hyppäsivät niinkuin oinaat, ja kukkulat niinkuin nuoret lampaat.

The mountains skipped like rams, the hills skipped like lambs.

5 Mikä sinun oli meri, ettäs pakenit? ja sinä Jordan, ettäs palasit takaperin?

Why did you flee, sea? Jordan, why did you turn back?

Mountains, why did you skip like rams? You little hills, why did you skip like lambs?

7 Herran edessä vapisi maa, Jakobin Jumalan edessä,

Tremble, earth, before the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob.

8 Joka kalliot muuttaa vesilammiksi, ja kiven vesilähteeksi.

He turned the rock into a pool of water, the hard rock into a spring of water.
