1 Kuulkaat, lapseni, isänne kuritusta, ja ottakaa vaari, oppiaksenne ja viisaammaksi tullaksenne.
Heare, O ye children, the instruction of a father, and giue eare to learne vnderstanding.
2 Sillä minä annan teille hyvän opetuksen; älkööt hyljätkö minun lakiani.
For I doe giue you a good doctrine: therefore forsake yee not my lawe.
3 Sillä minä olin isäni poika, hoikka ja ainoa äidilläni.
For I was my fathers sonne, tender and deare in the sight of my mother,
4 Ja hän opetti minua, ja sanoi minulle; anna sydämes ottaa minun sanani vastaan: pidä minun käskyni, niin sinä elää saat.
When he taught me, and sayde vnto me, Let thine heart holde fast my woordes: keepe my commandements, and thou shalt liue.
5 Osta viisaus, osat ymmärrys: älä unohda, älä myös poikkee minun puheestani.
Get wisedom: get vnderstading: forget not, neither decline from the woordes of my mouth.
6 Älä häntä hylkää, niin hän sinut kätkee: rakasta häntä, niin hän sinua varjelee.
Forsake her not, and shee shall keepe thee: loue her and shee shall preserue thee.
7 Sillä viisauden alku on, ostaa viisautta, ja kaikella saadullas ostaa taitoa.
Wisedome is the beginning: get wisedome therefore: and aboue all thy possession get vnderstanding.
8 Pidä häntä korkiassa kunniassa, niin hän sinua korottaa, ja saattaa kunniaan, jos sinä häntä rakastat.
Exalt her, and she shall exalt thee: she shall bring thee to honour, if thou embrace her.
9 Hän sinun pääs jalosti kaunistaa, ja kunnioittaa sinua ihanalla kruunulla.
She shall giue a comely ornamet vnto thine head, yea, she shall giue thee a crowne of glorie.
10 Kuule siis, poikani, ja ota minun puheeni, niin ikäs vuotta on monta.
Heare, my sonne, and receiue my wordes, and the yeeres of thy life shalbe many.
11 Minä johdatan sinua viisauden tielle, ja saatan sinua käymään oikialla retkellä,
I haue taught thee in ye way of wisedom, and led thee in the pathes of righteousnesse.
12 Niin että koskas vaellat, ei sinun käymises ole ahdas; ja koskas juokset, niin et sinä loukkaa sinuas.
Whe thou goest, thy gate shall not be strait, and when thou runnest, thou shalt not fall.
13 Pidä kuritus, älä hylkää häntä: kätke häntä; sillä hän on sinun elämäs.
Take holde of instruction, and leaue not: keepe her, for shee is thy life.
14 Älä mene jumalattomain askelille, ja älä astu pahain tielle;
Enter not into the way of the wicked, and walke not in the way of euill men.
15 Jätä se pois, ja älä käy siinä; karta sitä, ja mene ohitse.
Auoide it, and goe not by it: turne from it, and passe by.
16 Sillä ei he makaa, jollei he ole pahoin tehneet, eikä lepää, jollei he ole vahinkoa tehneet.
For they can not sleepe, except they haue done euill, and their sleepe departeth except they cause some to fall.
17 Sillä he syövät jumalattomuuden leipää, ja juovat vääryyden viinaa.
For they eate the breade of wickednesse, and drinke the wine of violence.
18 Mutta vanhurskasten retki paistaa niinkuin valkeus, käy edes, ja valistaa hamaan isoon päivään asti.
But the way of the righteous shineth as the light, that shineth more and more vnto the perfite day.
19 Mutta jumalattomain tie on niinkuin pimeys; ja ei he tiedä, kussa he lankeevat.
The way of the wicked is as the darkenes: they knowe not wherein they shall fall.
20 Poikani, ota vaari sanoistani, ja kallista korvas puheisiini.
My sonne, hearken vnto my wordes, incline thine eare vnto my sayings.
21 Älä niiden anna tulla pois silmistäs: pidä ne sydämessäs.
Let them not depart from thine eyes, but keepe them in the middes of thine heart.
22 Sillä ne ovat niiden elämä, jotka niitä ovat löytäneet, ja ovat terveelliset koko heidän ruumiillensa.
For they are life vnto those that find them, and health vnto all their flesh.
23 Varjele sydämes kaikella ahkeruudella: sillä siitä elämä tulee.
Keepe thine heart with all diligence: for thereout commeth life.
24 Pane pois paha suu, ja väärät huulet anna olla sinustas kaukana.
Put away from thee a froward mouth, and put wicked lippes farre from thee.
25 Katsokoon silmäs oikein eteensä, ja sinun silmäs laudat olkoot oikiat edessäs.
Let thine eyes beholde the right, and let thine eyelids direct thy way before thee.
26 Koettele jalkais askeleet, niin kaikki sinun ties vahvistuvat.
Ponder the path of thy feete, and let all thy waies be ordred aright.
27 Älä poikkee oikialle eli vasemmalle puolelle: tempaa jalkas pois pahuudesta.
Turne not to the right hande, nor to the left, but remooue thy foote from euill.
