1 Joka kuritukselle on uppiniskainen, hän äkisti kadotetaan ilman yhdetäkään avuta.
A man that hardeneth his necke when he is rebuked, shall suddenly be destroyed and can not be cured.
2 Kuin vanhurskaita monta on, niin kansa iloitsee; vaan kuin jumalatoin hallitsee, niin kansa huokaa.
When the righteous are in authoritie, the people reioyce: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people sigh.
3 Joka viisautta rakastaa, hän iloittaa isänsä; mutta joka huoria elättää, hän tuhlaa tavaraansa.
A man that loueth wisdome, reioyceth his father: but he that feedeth harlots, wasteth his substance.
4 Kuningas rakentaa oikeudella valtakunnan; vaan lahjain ottaja sen turmelee.
A King by iudgement mainteineth ye countrey: but a man receiuing giftes, destroyeth it.
5 Joka lähimmäisensä kanssa liehakoitsee, hän hajoittaa verkon jalkainsa eteen.
A man that flattereth his neighbour, spreadeth a net for his steps.
6 Kuin paha syntiä tekee, niin hän hänensä paulaan sekoittaa; vaan vanhurskas riemuitsee, ja hänellä on ilo.
In the transgression of an euill man is his snare: but the righteous doeth sing and reioyce.
7 Vanhurskas tuntee köyhän asian; vaan jumalatoin ei ymmärrä viisautta.
The righteous knoweth the cause of the poore: but the wicked regardeth not knowledge.
8 Pilkkaajat hajoittavat kaupungin; vaan viisaat asettavat vihan.
Scornefull men bring a citie into a snare: but wise men turne away wrath.
9 Kuin viisas tulee tyhmän kanssa oikeutta käymään, joko hän on vihainen eli iloinen, niin ei ole hänellä yhtään lepoa.
If a wise man contend with a foolish man, whether he be angry or laugh, there is no rest.
10 Verikoirat vihaavat siviää; vaan vanhurskaat holhovat häntä.
Bloodie men hate him that is vpright: but the iust haue care of his soule.
11 Tyhmä vuodattaa kaiken henkensä; vaan viisas sen pidättää.
A foole powreth out all his minde: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterward.
12 Päämies, joka valhetta rakastaa, hänen palveliansa ovat kaikki jumalattomat.
Of a prince that hearkeneth to lyes, all his seruants are wicked.
13 Köyhä ja rikas kohtasivat toinen toisensa: Herra valaisee heidän molempain silmänsä.
The poore and the vsurer meete together, and the Lord lighteneth both their eyes.
14 Kuningas, joka uskollisesti tuomitsee köyhiä, hänen istuimensa vahvistetaan ijankaikkisesti.
A King that iudgeth the poore in trueth, his throne shalbe established for euer.
15 Vitsa ja rangaistus antaa viisauden; vaan itsevaltainen lapsi häpäisee äitinsä.
The rodde and correction giue wisdome: but a childe set a libertie, maketh his mother ashamed.
16 Jossa monta jumalatointa on, siinä on monta syntiä; vaan vanhurskaat näkevät heidän lankeemisensa.
When the wicked are increased, transgression increaseth: but ye righteous shall see their fall.
17 Kurita poikaas, niin hän sinua virvoitaa, ja saattaa sielus iloiseksi.
Correct thy sonne and he will giue thee rest, and will giue pleasures to thy soule.
18 Kuin ennustukset loppuvat, niin kansa hajoitetaan; vaan autuas kätkee lain.
Where there is no vision, the people decay: but he that keepeth the Lawe, is blessed.
19 Palvelia ei anna itsiänsä kurittaa sanoilla; sillä vaikka hän sen ymmärtää, niin ei hän vastaa.
A seruant will not be chastised with words: though he vnderstand, yet he will not answere.
20 Jos sinä näet jonkun, joka on nopsa puhumaan: enempi on toivoa tyhmästä kuin hänestä.
Seest thou a man hastie in his matters? there is more hope of a foole, then of him.
21 Jos palvelia nuoruudesta herkullisesti pidetään, niin hän tahtoo sitte poikana olla.
He that delicately bringeth vp his seruant from youth, at length he will be euen as his sone.
22 Vihainen mies saattaa riidan, ja kiukkuinen tekee monta syntiä.
An angrie man stirreth vp strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.
23 Ylpeys kukistaa ihmisen; vaan kunnia korottaa nöyrän.
The pride of a man shall bring him lowe: but the humble in spirit shall enioy glory.
24 Joka varkaan kanssa on osallinen, hän vihaa sieluansa, niin myös se, joka kuulee kirouksen ja ei ilmoita.
He that is partner with a thiefe, hateth his owne soule: he heareth cursing, and declareth it not.
25 Joka pelkää ihmistä, hän tulee lankeemukseen; mutta joka luottaa Herraan, hän tulee pidetyksi ylös.
The feare of man bringeth a snare: but he that trusteth in the Lord, shalbe exalted.
26 Moni etsii päämiehenkasvoja; mutta jokaisen tuomio tulee Herralta.
Many doe seeke the face of the ruler: but euery mans iudgement commeth from the Lord.
27 Jumalatoin ihminen on vanhurskaille kauhistus; ja joka oikialla tiellä on, hän on jumalattomalle kauhistus.
A wicked man is abomination to the iust, and he that is vpright in his way, is abomination to the wicked.
