Sananlaskujen 15
1 Suloinen vastaus hillitse vihan, mutta kova sana saattaa mielen karvaaksi.
A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.
2 Viisasten kieli saattaa opetuksen suloiseksi, vaan tyhmäin suu aina hulluuta sylkee.
The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.
3 Herran silmät katselevat joka paikassa, sekä pahat että hyvät.
The eyes of the LORD [are] in every place, beholding the evil and the good.
4 Terveellinen kieli on elämän puu: vaan valhettelevainen saattaa sydämen kivun.
A wholesome tongue [is] a tree of life: but perverseness in it [is] a breach in the spirit.
5 Tyhmä laittaa isänsä kurituksen; vaan joka rangaistuksen ottaa, hän tulee taitavaksi.
A fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.
6 Vanhurskaan huoneessa on yltäkyllä; vaan jumalattoman saalis on hävintö.
In the house of the righteous [is] much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.
7 Viisasten huulet jakavat neuvoa; vaan tyhmäin sydän ei ole niin.
The lips of the wise diffuse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish [doeth] not so.
8 Jumalattoman uhri on Herralle kauhistus; vaan jumalisten rukous on hänelle otollinen.
The sacrifice of the wicked [is] an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright [is] his delight.
9 Jumalattoman tie on Herralle kauhistus; vaan joka vanhursjautta noudattaa, on hänelle rakas.
The way of the wicked [is] an abomination to the LORD; but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.
10 Kuritus on sille paha, joka hylkää tiensä: ja joka rangaistusta vihaa, hänen pitää kuoleman.
Correction [is] grievous to him that forsaketh the way: [and] he that hateth reproof shall die.
11 Helvetti ja kadotus on Herran edessä: kunka paljon enemmin ihmisten lasten sydämet. (Sheol h7585)
Hell and destruction [are] before the LORD: how much more then the hearts of the children of men? (Sheol h7585)
12 Ei pilkkaaja rakasta sitä, joka häntä rankaisee, ja ei hän mene viisasten tykö.
A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go to the wise.
13 Iloinen sydän tekee iloiset kasvot; vaan koska sydän on surullinen, niin rohkeus raukee.
A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.
14 Ymmärtäväinen sydän etsii viisautta; vaan tyhmäin suu tyhmyydellä ravitaan.
The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness.
15 Surullisella ihmisellä ei ole koskaan hyvää päivää; vaan jolla hyvä sydän on, hänellä on joka päivä vieraspito.
All the days of the afflicted [are] evil: but he that is of a merry heart [hath] a continual feast.
16 Parempi on vähä Herran pelvossa, kuin suuri tavara ilman lepoa.
Better [is] little with the fear of the LORD, than great treasure and trouble with it.
17 Parempi on ateria kaalia rakkaudessa, kuin syötetty härkä vihassa.
Better [is] a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred with it.
18 Vihainen mies saattaa toran matkaan; mutta kärsivällinen asettaa riidan.
A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but [he that is] slow to anger appeaseth strife.
19 Laiskan tie on orjantappurainen; vaan hurskasten tie on tasainen.
The way of the slothful [man is] as a hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous [is] made plain.
20 Viisas poika iloittaa isänsä, ja hullu ihminen häpäisee äitinsä.
A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.
21 Hulluulle on tyhmyys iloksi; vaan toimellinen mies pysyy oikialla tiellä.
Folly [is] joy to [him that is] destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly.
22 Aivoitus raukee ilman neuvoaa; vaan jossa monta neuvonantajaa on, se on vahva.
Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counselors they are established.
23 Se on ihmisen ilo, että hän toimella vastata taitaa, ja aikanansa sanottu sana on otollinen.
A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word [spoken] in due season, how good [it is]!
The way of life [is] above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath. (Sheol h7585)
25 Herra ylpeiden huoneet kukistaa, ja vahvistaa lesken rajat.
The LORD will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow.
26 Ilkiäin aivoitukset ovat Herralle kauhistukseksi; vaan toimellinen puhe on otollinen.
The thoughts of the wicked [are] an abomination to the LORD: but [the words] of the pure [are] pleasant words.
27 Ahneudella voitetut kukistavat oman huoneensa; vaan joka lahjoja vihaa, saa elää.
He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.
28 Vanhurskaan sydän ajattelee vastausta; vaan jumalattoman suu ammuntaa pahaa.
The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.
29 Herra on kaukana jumalattomista; vaan hän kuulee vanhurskasten rukoukset.
The LORD [is] far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.
30 Suloinen kasvo iloittaa sydämen: hyvä sanoma tekee luut lihaviksi.
The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart; [and] a good report maketh the bones fat.
31 Korva, joka kuulee elämän rangaistusta, on asuva viisasten seassa.
The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.
32 Joka ei itsiänsä salli kurittaa, se katsoo ylön sielunsa; vaan joka rangaistusta kuulee, hän tulee viisaaksi.
He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.
33 Herran pelko on kuritus viisauteen, ja kunnian edellä käy nöyryys.
The fear of the LORD [is] the instruction of wisdom: and before honor is humility.
