1 Jos siis joku neuvo on teidän tykönänne Kristuksessa, jos joku rakkauden lohdutus, jos joku hengen osallisuus, jos joku sydämellinen rakkaus ja laupius,
If therefore there is any exhortation in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any tender mercies and compassion,
2 Niin täyttäkäät minun iloni, että teillä olis yksi mieli, yhtäläinen rakkaus, ja te olisitte yksimieliset ja yhtäpitäväiset.
make my joy full by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind;
3 Älkäät tehkö mitään riidan eli turhan kunnian kautta, vaan nöyryydessä pitäin toinen toisensa parempana kuin itsensä.
doing nothing through rivalry or through conceit, but in humility, each counting others better than himself;
4 Ja älkään jokainen omaa parastansa katsoko, vaan myös toisen parasta.
each of you not just looking to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others.
5 Kullakin olkoon se ajatus, joka Kristuksella Jesuksella oli,
Have this in your mind, which was also in Christ Jesus,
6 Joka, vaikka hän oli Jumalan muodossa, ei lukenut saaliiksi Jumalan kaltainen olla,
who, existing in the form of God, didn’t consider equality with God a thing to be grasped,
7 Vaan alensi itsensä, otti orjan muodon päällensä ja tuli muiden ihmisten vertaiseksi,
but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men.
8 Ja löydettiin menoissa niinkuin ihminen, nöyryytti itsensä ja oli kuolemaan saakka kuuliainen, ja ristin kuolemaan asti.
And being found in human form, he humbled himself, becoming obedient to the point of death, yes, the death of the cross.
9 Sentähden on Jumala hänen myös korottanut ja antanut hänelle nimen, joka kaikkia nimiä suurin on:
Therefore God also highly exalted him, and gave to him the name which is above every name,
10 Että Jesuksen nimeen pitää kaikki polvet heitänsä kumartaman, jotka taivaassa ja maan päällä ja maan alla ovat,
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, those on earth, and those under the earth,
11 Ja kaikki kielet pitää tunnustaman, että Jesus Kristus on Herra, Isän Jumalan kunniaksi.
and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
12 Sentähden, minun rakkaani, niinkuin te aina olette kuuliaiset olleet, (ei ainoastansa minun läsnäollessani, mutta nyt paljoa enemmin minun poissa-ollessani), laittakaat pelvolla ja vapistuksella, että te autuaaksi tulisitte.
So then, my beloved, even as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
13 Sillä Jumala vaikuttaa teissä sekä tahdon että toimituksen, hyvän suosionsa jälkeen.
For it is God who works in you both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
14 Tehkäät kaikki napisematta ja kamppailematta.
Do all things without complaining and arguing,
15 Että te olisitte laittamattomat ja yksivakaiset, nuhteettomat Jumalan lapset pahanilkisen ja nurjan sukukunnan keskellä, joiden seassa te paistakaat niinkuin kynttilät maailmassa,
that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without defect in the middle of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you are seen as lights in the world,
16 Että te elämän sanassa pysytte, minulle Kristuksen päivänä kerskaamiseksi, etten minä hukkaan juossut olisi eli turhaan työtä tehnyt.
holding up the word of life, that I may have something to boast in the day of Christ that I didn’t run in vain nor labor in vain.
17 Ja jos minä uhrattaisiin teidän uhrin ja uskon palveluksenne tähden, niin minä iloitsen ja riemuitsen kaikkein teidän kanssanne.
Yes, and if I am poured out on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all.
18 Sentähden tekin minun kanssani iloitkaat ja riemuitkaat.
In the same way, you also should be glad and rejoice with me.
19 Mutta minä toivon Herrassa Jesuksessa, että minä pian Timoteuksen teidän tykönne lähetän, että minäkin ihastuisin, kuin minä tietää saan, kuinka teidän tilanne on.
But I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, that I also may be cheered up when I know how you are doing.
20 Sillä ei minulla ole ketään, jolla yksi mieli minun kanssani on ja joka niin visusti murheen teistä pitää.
For I have no one else like-minded, who will truly care about you.
21 Sillä he etsivät kaikki omaansa ja ei niitä mitkä Jesuksen Kristuksen ovat.
For they all seek their own, not the things of Jesus Christ.
22 Mutta te tiedätte hänen koettelemuksensa; sillä niinkuin lapsi isänsä kanssa on, niin on hän minun kanssani evankeliumissa palvellut.
But you know that he has proved himself. As a child serves a father, so he served with me in furtherance of the Good News.
23 Tämän siis minä toivon lähettäväni, kuin minä olen asiani toimittanut.
Therefore I hope to send him at once, as soon as I see how it will go with me.
24 Mutta minä uskallan Herran päälle, että minä itsekin olen pian tuleva.
But I trust in the Lord that I myself also will come shortly.
25 Vaan minä olen nähnyt tarpeelliseksi teidän tykönne lähettää veljeä Epaphroditusta, joka minun virkaveljeni ja sotakumppanini ja teidän myös apostolinne on, joka minua myös tarpeessani autti;
But I thought it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow worker, fellow soldier, and your apostle and servant of my need,
26 Sillä hän ikävöitsi kaikkia teitä, ja oli kovin suruissansa, että te hänen sairaaksi kuulleet olitte.
since he longed for you all, and was very troubled because you had heard that he was sick.
27 Ja tosin hän oli jo kuoleman kielissä; mutta Jumala armahti hänen päällensä, ja ei ainoastaan hänen, vaan myös minun päälleni, etten minä murhetta murheen päälle olisi saanut.
For indeed he was sick nearly to death, but God had mercy on him, and not on him only, but on me also, that I might not have sorrow on sorrow.
28 Sentähden olen minä hänen sitä pikemmin lähettänyt, että te taas hänen saisitte nähdä ja iloitsisitte, ja minulla myös vähempi murhetta olis.
I have sent him therefore the more diligently, that when you see him again, you may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful.
29 Niin ottakaat häntä Herrassa vastaan kaikella ilolla ja pitäkäät senkaltaiset kunniassa;
Receive him therefore in the Lord with all joy, and hold such people in honor,
30 Sillä Kristuksen työn tähden oli hän niin kuolemaa lähestynyt, ettei hän hengestänsä totellut, että hän olis minua teidän puolestanne palvellut.
because for the work of Christ he came near to death, risking his life to supply that which was lacking in your service toward me.
