4 Mooseksen 32
1 Rubenin lapsilla oli sangen paljo karjaa, ja Gadin lapsilla oli myös aivan suuri joukko karjaa, ja he näkivät Jaeserin ja Gileadin maan, että se olis sovelias karjan laiduin.
Now the children of Reuben [See, a son!] and the children of Gad [Good fortune] had a very great multitude of livestock. When they saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, that behold, the place was a place for livestock;
2 Sentähden tulivat Gadin lapset ja Rubenin lapset ja puhuivat Mosekselle, ja papille Eleatsarille, ja kansan päämiehille, sanoen:
the children of Gad [Good fortune] and the children of Reuben [See, a son!] came and spoke to Moses [Drawn out], and to Eleazar [Help of God] the priest, and to the princes of the congregation, saying,
3 Atarot, Dibon, Jaeser, Nimra, Hesbon, Eleale, Sebam, Nebo ja Beon,
“Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo, and Beon,
4 Se maa, jonka Herra on lyönyt Israelin kansan edessä, on sovelias maa karjalle, ja meillä sinun palvelioillas on karjaa.
the land which Adonai struck before the congregation of Israel [God prevails], is a land for livestock; and your servants have livestock.”
5 Ja he (vielä) sanoivat: jos me olemme armon löytäneet sinun edessäs, niin anna sinun palvelioilles tämä maa omaksi, ettes meidän antaisi mennä Jordanin ylitse.
They said, “If we have found chen ·grace· in your sight, let this land be given to your servants for a possession. Don’t bring us over the Jordan [Descender].”
6 Moses sanoi Gadin ja Rubenin lapsille: pitäiskö veljenne menemän sotaan ja teidän tänne jäämän?
Moses [Drawn out] said to the children of Gad [Good fortune], and to the children of Reuben [See, a son!], “Shall your brothers go to the war, and shall you sit here?
7 Miksi käännätte Israelin lasten sydämet, ettei heidän pitäisi menemän ylitse siihen maahan, jonka Herra heille antoi.
Why do you discourage the heart of the children of Israel [God prevails] from going over into the land which Adonai has given them?
8 Niin tekivät teidän isännekin, koska minä lähetin heidät KadesBarneasta katsomaan tätä maata,
Your fathers did so when I sent them from Kadesh Barnea [Consecrated Son-inconstant] to see the land.
9 Ja kuin he tulivat Eskolin ojalle ja näkivät maan, käänsivät he Israelin lasten sydämen, niin ettei he siihen maahan tahtoneet mennä, jonka Herra heille tahtoi antaa.
For when they went up to the valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel [God prevails], that they should not go into the land which Adonai had given them.
10 Ja Herran viha julmistui sinä päivänä ja hän vannoi, sanoen:
Adonai’s anger burned in that day, and he swore, saying,
11 Tämä kansa, joka Egyptistä lähtenyt on, kahdenkymmenen vuoden vanhasta ja sen ylitse, ei suinkaan pidä näkemän sitä maata, jonka minä Abrahamille, Isaakille ja Jakobille vannonut olen, ettei he minua uskollisesti seuranneet,
‘Surely none of the men who came up out of Egypt [Abode of slavery], from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I swore to Abraham [Father of a multitude], to Isaac [Laughter], and to Jacob [Supplanter]; because they have not wholly followed me,
12 Paitsi Kalebia Jephunnen Kenisiläisen poikaa, ja Josuaa Nunin poikaa; sillä he uskollisesti seurasivat Herraa.
except Caleb [Dog] the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, and Joshua [Yah Salvation] the son of Nun; because they have followed Adonai completely.’
13 Niin Herran viha julmistui Israelissa, ja laski heidät menemään korpeen sinne ja tänne neljäksikymmeneksi vuodeksi, siihenasti kuin kaikki se sukukunta hukkui, joka Herran edessä pahaa tehnyt oli.
Adonai’s anger burned against Israel [God prevails], and he made them wander back and forth in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, who had done evil in Adonai’s sight, was consumed.
14 Ja katso, te olette nousseet isäinne siaan, syntisten joukko, lisäämään vielä Herran vihan julmuutta Israelia vastaan;
“Behold, you have risen up in your fathers’ place, an increase of men who sin ·intentionally miss the mark goal·, to increase the fierce anger of Adonai toward Israel [God prevails].
15 Sillä jos te käännytte hänestä pois, niin hän antaa teidän enemmän aikaa viipyä korvessa, ja niin te turmelette kaiken tämän kansan.
For if you turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilderness; and you will destroy all these people.”
16 Niin he kävivät edes ja sanoivat: me rakennamme ainoastansa tähän pihatoita karjallemme, ja kaupungeita lapsillemme.
They came near to him, and said, “We will build sheepfolds here for our livestock, and cities for our little ones;
17 Mutta me tahdomme olla joudukkaat varustettuina käymään Israelin lasten edellä, siihenasti että me johdatamme heitä sioillensa; vaan lapsemme ovat näissä vahvoissa kaupungeissa maan asuvaisten tähden.
but we ourselves will be ready armed to go before the children of Israel [God prevails], until we have brought them to their place. Our little ones shall dwell in the fortified cities because of the inhabitants of the land.
18 Emme myös palaja huoneisiimme, siihenasti että Israelin lapset itsekukin saavat perintönsä.
We will not teshuvah ·completely return· to our houses, until the children of Israel [God prevails] have each inherited their inheritance.
19 Sillä emme tahdo heidän kanssa periä toisella puolella Jordania eli etempää; vaan meidän perintömme olkoon tällä puolella Jordania itään päin.
For we will not inherit with them on the other side of the Jordan [Descender], and forward; because our inheritance has come to us on this side of the Jordan [Descender] eastward.”
20 Ja Moses sanoi heille: jos tämän teette, että hankitsette teitänne sotaan Herran edessä,
Moses [Drawn out] said to them, “If you will do this thing, if you will arm yourselves to go before Adonai to the war,
21 Niin menkäät Herran edessä Jordanin ylitse, jokainen kuin teistä hankittu on, siihenasti että hän ajaa kaikki vihollisensa pois kasvoinsa edestä,
and every armed man of you will pass over the Jordan [Descender] before Adonai, until he has driven out his enemies from before him,
22 Ja maa tulee Herran edessä alamaiseksi; sitte pitää teidän palajaman jällensä ja oleman viattomat Herran ja Israelin edessä, ja niin tämä maa on teidän omanne Herran edessä.
and the land is subdued before Adonai; then afterward you shall teshuvah ·completely return·, and be guiltless towards Adonai, and towards Israel [God prevails]; and this land shall be to you for a possession before Adonai.
23 Mutta jos ette niin tee, katso, niin te rikotte Herraa vastaan, ja teidän pitää tietämän teidän rikoksenne, että se käsittää teidät.
“But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned ·deviated (from the standard goal)· against Adonai; and be sure your habitual sin ·missing the mark· will find you out.
24 Niin rakentakaat siis kaupungeita lapsillenne, ja pihatoita karjallenne, ja tehkäät niinkuin te sanoitte.
Build cities for your little ones, and folds for your sheep; and do that which has proceeded out of your mouth.”
25 Gadin ja Rubenin lapset sanoivat Mosekselle: sinun palvelias tekevät niinkuin minun Herrani on käskenyt.
The children of Gad [Good fortune] and the children of Reuben [See, a son!] spoke to Moses [Drawn out], saying, “Your servants will do as my lord enjoins us.
26 Meidän lapsemme, emäntämme, tavaramme ja kaikki meidän karjamme pitää jäämän Gileadin kaupunkeihin.
Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our livestock, shall be there in the cities of Gilead;
27 Mutta me sinun palvelias lähdemme kaikki yhdessä joukossa hankittuina sotaan Herran edessä, niinkuin minun Herrani sanonut on.
but your servants will pass over, every man who is armed for war, before Adonai to battle, as my lord says.”
28 Niin Moses käski heidän puolestansa pappia Eleatsaria, ja Josuaa Nunin poikaa, ja Israelin lasten sukukuntain ylimmäisiä isiä,
So Moses [Drawn out] enjoined concerning them to Eleazar [Help of God] the priest, and to Joshua [Yah Salvation] the son of Nun, and to the heads of the fathers’ households of the tribes of the children of Israel [God prevails].
29 Ja sanoi heille: jos Gadin ja Rubenin lapset menevät teidän kanssanne Jordanin ylitse, kaikki hankittuina sotaan Herran edessä, ja te saatte kaikki maan allenne, niin antakaat heille Gileadin maa omaksi.
Moses [Drawn out] said to them, “If the children of Gad [Good fortune] and the children of Reuben [See, a son!] will pass with you over the Jordan [Descender], every man who is armed to battle, before Adonai, and the land is subdued before you, then you shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession;
30 Vaan jos ei he mene hankittuina teidän kanssanne, niin pitää heidän perimän teidän kanssanne Kanaanin maalla.
but if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan [Humbled].”
31 Gadin ja Rubenin lapset vastasivat, ja sanoivat: niinkuin Herra on puhunut sinun palvelioilles, niin me teemme:
The children of Gad [Good fortune] and the children of Reuben [See, a son!] answered, saying, “As Adonai has said to your servants, so will we do.
32 Me menemme hankittuina Herran eteen Kanaanin maalle, ja omistamme perintöosamme tällä puolella Jordania.
We will pass over armed before Adonai into the land of Canaan [Humbled], and the possession of our inheritance shall remain with us beyond the Jordan [Descender].”
33 Niin Moses antoi Gadin ja Rubenin lapsille ja puolelle Manassen Josephin pojan sukukunnalle Sihonin Amorilaisten kuninkaan valtakunnan ja Ogin Basanin kuninkaan valtakunnan: maan kaupunkeinensa, jotka niissä maan äärissä ympärillä olivat.
Moses [Drawn out] gave to them, even to the children of Gad [Good fortune], and to the children of Reuben [See, a son!], and to the half-tribe of Manasseh [Causing to forget] the son of Joseph [May he add], the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites [Descendants of Talkers], and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, according to its cities and borders, even the cities of the surrounding land.
34 Ja Gadin lapset rakensivat Dibonin, Atarotin, Aroerin,
The children of Gad [Good fortune] built Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer,
35 Atarot-Sophanin, Jaeserin, Jogbehanin,
Atrothshophan, Jazer, Jogbehah,
36 Betnimran ja Betaranin, vahvat kaupungit ja pihatot.
Beth Nimrah, and Beth Haran [Mountaineer]: fortified cities, and folds for sheep.
37 Rubenin lapset rakensivat Hesbonin, Elealen, Kirjataimin,
The children of Reuben [See, a son!] built Heshbon, Elealeh, Kiriathaim,
38 Ja Nebon, BaalMeonin, MusabotSemin ja Sibman, ja antoivat nimet niille kaupungeille, jotka he rakensivat.
Nebo, and Baal Meon, (their names being changed), and Sibmah. They gave other names to the cities which they built.
39 Ja Makirin Manassen pojan lapset menivät Gileadiin ja voittivat sen, ja ajoivat ulos Amorilaiset, jotka siellä asuivat.
The children of Machir the son of Manasseh [Causing to forget] went to Gilead, took it, and dispossessed the Amorites [Descendants of Talkers] who were therein.
40 Niin Moses antoi Makirille Manassen pojalle Gileadin, ja hän asui siellä.
Moses [Drawn out] gave Gilead to Machir the son of Manasseh [Causing to forget]; and he lived therein.
41 Mutta Jair Manassen poika meni, ja voitti heidän maakylänsä, jotka hän kutsui Jairin kyliksi,
Jair the son of Manasseh [Causing to forget] went and took its villages, and called them Havvoth Jair.
42 Meni myös Noba, ja voitti Kenatin tyttärinensä, ja hän kutsui sen Nobaksi nimestänsä.
Nobah went and took Kenath, and its villages, and called it Nobah, after his own name.
