Matteuksen 2
1 Koska siis Jesus syntynyt oli Betlehemissä Juudan maalla, kuningas Herodeksen aikaan, katso, tietäjät tulivat idästä Jerusalemiin ja sanoivat:
Jesus having been born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came into Jerusalem saying;
2 Kussa on se syntynyt Juudalaisten kuningas? sillä me näimme hänen tähtensä idässä, ja tulimme häntä kumartaen rukoilemaan.
Where is He that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen His star in the east, and have come to worship Him-
3 Kuin kuningas Herodes sen kuuli, hämmästyi hän ja kaikki Jerusalem hänen kanssansa,
And Herod the king having heard, was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him,
4 Ja kokosi kaikki ylimmät papit ja kirjanoppineet kansan seassa, ja kyseli heiltä, kussa Kristuksen syntymän piti.
and gathering together all the chief priests and scribes, inquired with them where Christ should be born.
5 Ja he sanoivat hänelle: Betlehemissä Juudan maalla; sillä niin on prophetan kautta kirjoitettu:
And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judea; for thus it has been written by the prophet;
6 Ja sinä Betlehem Juudan maassa, et sinä ole suinkaan vähin Juudan pääruhtinasten seassa; sillä sinusta on tuleva se Ruhtinas, jonka minun kansaani Israelia pitää hallitseman.
And thou, Bethlehem, the land of Judea, art by no means the least among the princes of Judah; for out of thee shall come a leader, who will shepherd my people, Israel.
7 Silloin kutsui Herodes tietäjät salaa, ja tutkisteli visusti heiltä, millä ajalla tähti ilmestyi,
Then Herod secretly calling the wise men, inquired with them the time of the appearing of the star,
8 Ja lähetti heidät Betlehemiin, ja sanoi: menkäät ja kysykäät visusti lapsesta, ja kuin te löydätte, niin ilmoittakaat minulle, että minäkin tulisin ja kumartaisin häntä.
and sending them to Bethlehem he said; Having gone search diligently for the young child; and when you may find Him, notify me, in order that I, having gone, may worship Him also.
9 Kuin he olivat kuninkaan kuulleet, menivät he matkaansa, ja katso, tähti, jonka he olivat nähneet idässä, kävi heidän edellänsä, niinkauvan kuin hän edellä käyden seisahti sen paikan päälle, jossa lapsi oli.
And hearing the king they departed, and, behold, the star which they saw in the east went before them, until having come, it stood above where the young child was.
10 Kuin he tähden näkivät, ihastuivat he sangen suurella ilolla,
And seeing the star they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.
11 Ja menivät huoneeseen, löysivät lapsen äitinsä Marian kanssa, maahan lankesivat ja rukoilivat häntä, ja avasivat tavaransa, ja lahjoittivat hänelle kultaa ja pyhää savua ja mirhamia.
And having come into the house they saw the young child with Mary His mother, and having fallen down they worshiped Him, and opening their treasures they offered Him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.
12 Ja Jumala kielsi heitä unessa Herodeksen tykö palajamasta; ja he menivät toista tietä omalle maallensa.
And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed into their own country by another way.
13 Mutta kuin he olivat menneet pois, katso, niin Herran enkeli ilmestyi Josephille unessa, sanoen: nouse ja ota lapsi äitinensä tykös, ja pakene Egyptiin, ja ole siellä siihen asti kuin minä sinulle sanon; sillä Herodes on etsivä lasta, hukuttaaksensa häntä.
And they having gone away, behold, the angel of the Lord appears in a dream to Joseph, saying; Having arisen, take the young child and His mother, and fly into Egypt; and be thou there until I may speak to thee; for Herod is about to seek the young child in order to destroy Him.
14 Niin hän nousi ja otti lapsen äitinensä yöllä tykönsä, ja pakeni Egyptiin,
And having arisen, he took with him the young child and His mother by night and departed into Egypt;
15 Ja oli siellä Herodeksen kuolemaan asti: että täytettäisiin mitä sanottu oli Herralta prophetan kautta, joka sanoo: Egyptistä kutsuin minä poikani.
and was there until the death of Herod: in order that the Word, having been spoken by the Lord through the prophet, might be fulfilled, saying; Out of Egypt have I called my son.
16 Kuin Herodes näki itsensä tietäjiltä vietellyksi, vihastui hän sangen kovin, ja lähetti tappamaan kaikki poikalapset Betlehemissä ja kaikissa sen äärissä, jotka kaksivuotiset olivat taikka nuoremmat, sen ajan jälkeen, jonka hän oli tarkasti tietäjiltä tutkinut.
Then Herod, seeing that he was mocked by the wise men, became exceedingly angry; and having sent forth, he slew all the boys in Bethlehem and in all its boundaries, from two years old and under, according to the time which he inquired with the wise men.
17 Silloin se täytettiin, mitä Jeremialta prophetalta sanottu oli, joka sanoo:
Then the word having been spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled, saying:
18 Ramassa on ääni kuulunut, suuri valitus, itku ja iso parku: Rakel itkee lapsiansa, ja ei tahtonut itsiänsä antaa lohdutettaa, ettei he ole.
A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation and weeping and great mourning; Rachel weeping for her children; and was not willing to be comforted, because they are not.
19 Mutta kuin Herodes oli kuollut, katso, niin Herran enkeli ilmestyi Josephille unessa Egyptissä ja sanoi:
And Herod having died, behold, the angel of the Lord appears to Joseph in Egypt in a dream, saying;
20 Nouse ja ota lapsi äitinensä, ja mene Israelin maalle; sillä ne ovat kuolleet, jotka lapsen henkeä väijyivät.
Having arisen, take with you the young child and His mother, and depart into the land of Israel; for those seeking the life of the young child are dead.
21 Niin hän nousi ja otti lapsen äitinensä, ja meni Israelin maalle.
And having arisen he took with him the young child and His mother and came into the land of Israel.
22 Mutta kuin hän kuuli, että Arkelaus oli kuningas Juudeassa, isänsä Herodeksen siassa, pelkäsi hän sinne mennä. Ja hän sai Jumalalta käskyn unessa, ja poikkesi Galilean ääriin,
And having heard that Archelaus reigns over Judea instead of Herod his father, he was afraid to depart thither; and being warned in a dream he departed into the regions of Galilee.
23 Ja tuli ja asui kaupungissa, joka kutsutaan Natsaret, että täytettäisiin mitä prophetain kautta sanottu oli: hän pitää Natsarealaiseksi kutsuttaman.
And having come, he went down into the city called Nazareth, in order that the words spoken by the prophets might be fulfilled, that He shall be called a Nazarene.
