Markuksen 1
1 Jesuksen Kristuksen, Jumalan Pojan, evankeliumin alku.
The beginning of the Good News about Jesus Christ.
2 Niinkuin prophetaissa kirjoitettu on: katso, minä lähetän minun enkelini sinun kasvois eteen, joka on valmistava sinun ties sinun etees.
It is said in the Prophet Isaiah — ‘Behold! I send my Messenger before thy face; he shall prepare thy way.
3 Huutavan ääni on korvessa: valmistakaat Herran tietä, tehkäät hänen polkunsa oikiaksi.
The voice of one crying aloud in the Wilderness: “Make ready the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.”’
4 Johannes kasti korvessa ja saarnasi parannuksen kastetta syntein anteeksi antamiseksi.
And in fulfilment of this, John the Baptizer appeared in the Wilderness, proclaiming a baptism upon repentance, for the forgiveness of sins.
5 Ja hänen tykönsä meni ulos koko Juudean maakunta ja Jerusalemin asuvaiset, ja kastettiin kaikki häneltä Jordanin virrassa, tunnustain syntinsä.
The whole of Judea, as well as all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, went out to him; and they were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.
6 Ja Johannes oli puetettu kamelin karvoilla, ja ympäri hänen suoliansa oli hihnainen vyö, ja söi heinäsirkkoja ja metsähunajaa,
John was clad in clothing of camels’ hair, with a belt of leather round his waist, and lived on locusts and wild honey;
7 Ja saarnasi, sanoen: se tulee minun jälkeeni, joka on minua väkevämpi, jonka en minä ole kelvollinen kumarruksissa kenkäin rihmaa päästämään.
and he proclaimed — “There is coming after me one more powerful than I, and I am not fit even to stoop down and unfasten his sandals.
8 Minä tosin kastan teitä vedellä; mutta hän kastaa teitä Pyhällä Hengellä.
I have baptized you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
9 Ja tapahtui niinä päivinä, että Jesus tuli Galilean Natsaretista ja kastettiin Johannekselta Jordanissa.
Now about that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan.
10 Ja kohta kuin hän astui vedestä ylös, näki hän taivaat aukenevan ja Hengen tulevan alas hänen päällensä niinkuin kyyhkyisen,
And just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens rent apart, and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon him,
11 Ja ääni tuli taivaasta: sinä olet minun rakas Poikani, johonka minä mielistyin.
and from the heavens came a voice — “Thou art my Son, the Beloved; in thee I delight.”
12 Ja Henki ajoi hänen kohta korpeen.
Immediately afterwards the Spirit drove Jesus out into the Wilderness;
13 Ja hän oli siellä korvessa neljäkymmentä päivää, ja kiusattiin perkeleeltä, ja oli petoin seassa; ja enkelit palvelivat häntä.
and he was there in the Wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan, and among the wild beasts, while the angels ministered to him.
14 Mutta sitte kuin Johannes oli vankiuteen annettu ylön, tuli Jesus Galileaan, saarnaten Jumalan valtakunnan evankeliumia,
After John had been committed to prison, Jesus went to Galilee, proclaiming the Good News of God —
15 Ja sanoi: aika on täytetty, ja Jumalan valtakunta on lähestynyt: tehkäät parannus ja uskokaat evankeliumi.
“The time has come, and the Kingdom of God is at hand; repent, and believe the Good News.”
16 Ja kuin hän käveli Galilean meren tykönä, näki hän Simonin ja Andreaksen hänen veljensä laskevan verkkoa mereen: (sillä he olivat kalamiehet: )
As Jesus was going along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net in the Sea, for they were fishermen.
17 Ja Jesus sanoi heille: seuratkaat minua, ja minä teen teidät, että te tulette ihmisten kalamiehiksi.
“Come and follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will set you to fish for men.”
18 Ja he jättivät kohta verkkonsa ja seurasivat häntä.
They left their nets at once, and followed him.
19 Ja kuin hän sieltä vähää edemmä kävi, näki hän Jakobin Zebedeuksen pojan ja Johanneksen, hänen veljensä, parantavan venheessä verkkojansa.
Going on a little further, he saw James, Zebediah’s son, and his brother John, who also were in their boat mending the nets.
20 Ja hän kutsui kohta heitä. Ja he jättivät isänsä Zebedeuksen venheeseen palkollisten kanssa, ja seurasivat häntä.
Jesus at once called them, and they left their father Zebediah in the boat with the crew, and went after him.
21 Ja he menivät sisälle Kapernaumiin; ja hän meni kohta lepopäivinä synagogaan, ja opetti.
And they walked into Capernaum. On the next Sabbath Jesus went into the Synagogue and began to teach.
22 Ja he hämmästyivät hänen opetustansa; sillä hän opetti heitä voimallisesti, ja ei niinkuin kirjanoppineet.
The people were amazed at his teaching, for he taught them like one who had authority, and not like the Teachers of the Law.
23 Ja heidän synagogassansa oli ihminen riivattu saastaiselta hengeltä, ja hän huusi,
Now there was in their Synagogue at the time a man under the power of a foul spirit, who called out:
24 Sanoen: voi, mitä meidän on sinun kanssas, Jesus Natsarealainen! tulitkos meitä hukuttamaan? Minä tunnen sinun, kukas olet, Jumalan pyhä.
“What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are — the Holy One of God!”
25 Ja Jesus nuhteli häntä, sanoen: vaikene ja mene ulos hänestä.
But Jesus rebuked the spirit: “Be silent! Come out from him.”
26 Ja kuin se saastainen henki repäisi häntä ja huusi suurella äänellä, niin hän läksi ulos hänestä.
The foul spirit threw the man into a fit, and with a loud cry came out from him.
27 Ja he hämmästyivät kaikki, niin että he kyselivät keskenänsä, sanoen: mitä tämä on? mikä uusi oppi tämä on? Sillä hän käskee myös voimalla saastaisia henkiä, ja he kuulevat häntä.
And they were all so amazed that they kept asking: “What is this? Strange teaching indeed! He gives his commands with authority even to the foul spirits, and they obey him!”
28 Ja hänen sanomansa kuului kohta ympäri kaiken Galilean lähimaakunnan.
And the fame of Jesus spread at once in all directions, through the whole neighbourhood of Galilee.
29 Ja he menivät kohta ulos synagogasta ja tulivat Simonin ja Andreaksen huoneeseen, Jakobin ja Johanneksen kanssa.
As soon as they had come out from the Synagogue, they went, with James and John, into the house of Simon and Andrew.
30 Mutta Simonin anoppi makasi vilutaudissa, ja he sanoivat hänestä kohta hänelle.
Now Simon’s mother-in-law was lying ill with fever, and they at once told Jesus about her.
31 Ja hän meni ja nosti häntä, ja rupesi hänen käteensä, ja vilutauti jätti hänen kohta; ja hän palveli heitä.
Jesus went up to her and, grasping her hand, raised her up; the fever left her, and she began to wait upon them.
32 Mutta ehtoona, kuin aurinko laski, toivat he hänen tykönsä kaikkinaisia sairaita ja perkeleiltä riivatuita,
In the evening, after sunset, the people brought to Jesus all who were ill or possessed by demons;
33 Ja koko kaupunki tuli kokoon oven eteen.
and the whole city was gathered round the door.
34 Ja hän paransi monta, jotka sairastivat moninaisia tauteja, ja hän ajoi ulos paljon perkeleitä, eikä sallinut perkeleiden puhua; sillä he tunsivat hänen.
Jesus cured many who were ill with various diseases, and drove out many demons, and would not permit them to speak, because they knew him to be the Christ.
35 Ja huomeneltain sangen varhain ennen päivää, kuin hän nousi, meni hän ulos. Ja Jesus meni erinäiseen asiaan ja rukoili siellä.
In the morning, long before daylight, Jesus rose and went out, and, going to a lonely spot, there began to pray.
36 Ja Simon riensi hänen perässänsä ja ne jotka hänen kanssansa olivat.
But Simon and his companions hastened after him;
37 Ja kuin he löysivät hänen, sanoivat he hänelle: jokainen etsii sinua.
and, when they found him, they exclaimed: “Every one is looking for you!”
38 Ja hän sanoi heille: menkäämme lähimmäisiin kyliin, että minä sielläkin saarnaisin; sillä sitä varten olen minä tullut.
But Jesus said to them: “Let us go somewhere else, into the country towns near, that I may make my proclamation in them also; for that was why I came.”
39 Ja hän saarnasi heidän synagogissansa, koko Galileassa, ja ajoi ulos perkeleitä.
And he went about making his proclamation in their Synagogues all through Galilee, and driving out the demons.
40 Ja hänen tykönsä tuli spitalinen, rukoili häntä, lankesi polvillensa hänen eteensä ja sanoi hänelle: jos sinä tahdot, niin sinä voit minun puhdistaa.
One day a leper came to Jesus and, falling on his knees, begged him for help. “If only you are willing,” he said, “you are able to make me clean.”
41 Ja Jesus armahti häntä ja ojensi kätensä, rupesi häneen ja sanoi hänelle: minä tahdon, ole puhdas.
Moved with compassion, Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying as he did so: “I am willing; become clean.”
42 Ja kuin hän sen oli sanonut, niin spitali läksi hänestä kohta pois, ja hän tuli puhtaaksi.
Instantly the leprosy left the man, and he became clean;
43 Ja Jesus haasti häntä, ja lähetti hänen kohta pois tyköänsä,
and then Jesus, after sternly warning him, immediately sent him away, and said to him:
44 Ja sanoi hänelle: katso, ettes kellenkään mitään sano, mutta mene, osoita itses papille ja uhraa puhdistukses edestä ne, mitkä Moses käski, heille todistukseksi.
“Be careful not to say anything to any one; but go and show yourself to the Priest, and make the offerings for your cleansing directed by Moses, as evidence of your cure.”
45 Mutta kuin hän meni ulos, rupesi hän paljon saarnaamaan ja ilmoittamaan sitä asiaa, niin ettei hän sitte taitanut julkisesti kaupunkiin mennä; mutta oli ulkona erinäisissä paikoissa, ja joka taholta tultiin hänen tykönsä.
The man, however, went away, and began to speak about it publicly, and to spread the story so widely, that Jesus could no longer go openly into a town, but stayed outside in lonely places; and people came to him from every direction.
