1 Mutta Israelin lapset horjahtivat kovin kirotussa kalussa; sillä Akan Karmin poika, Saddin pojan, Seran pojan, Juudan sukukunnasta, otti jotakin kirottua, niin julmistui Herran viha Israelin lasten päälle.
But the children of Israel committed a trespasse in the excommunicate thing: for Achan the sonne of Carmi, the sonne of Zabdi, the sonne of Zerah of the tribe of Iuda tooke of the excommunicate thing: wherfore the wrath of the Lord was kindled against the children of Israel.
2 Ja Josua lähetti miehiä Jerihosta Aihin päin, joka on BetAvenin tykönä itäänpäin Betelistä, ja puhui heille, sanoen: menkäät ja vaotkaat maata; niin he menivät ja vakosivat Ain.
And Ioshua sent men from Iericho to Ai, which is beside Bethauen, on ye East side of Bethel, and spake vnto them, saying, Goe vp, and view the countrey. And ye men went vp, and viewed Ai,
3 Sitte palasivat he jälleen Josuan tykö ja sanoivat hänelle: älä anna kaikkea kansaa sinne mennä, mutta vaivoin kaksi eli kolmetuhatta miestä menkään ja lyökään Ain, ettei kaikkea kansaa hukkaan sinne vaivattaisi; sillä he ovat harvat.
And returned to Ioshua, and saide vnto him, Let not al the people go vp, but let as it were two or three thousand men go vp, and smite Ai, and make not al the people to labour thither, for they are fewe.
4 Niin meni sinne kansasta liki kolmetuhatta miestä, ja he pakenivat Ain kaupungin miesten edestä.
So there went vp thither of the people about three thousande men, and they fledde before the men of Ai.
5 Ja ne miehet Aista löivät heistä liki kuusineljättäkymmentä miestä, ja ajoivat heitä portista takaa Sabarimiin asti, ja löivät heitä tiellä paetessa; niin kansan sydän hämmästyi ja tuli niinkuin vesi.
And the men of Ai smote of them vpon a thirtie and sixe men: for they chased them from before the gate vnto Shebarim, and smote them in the going downe: wherfore the heartes of the people melted away like water.
6 Ja Josua repäisi vaatteensa ja hän lankesi maahan kasvoillensa Herran arkin eteen hamaan ehtooseen asti, hän ja Israelin vanhimmat; ja he heittivät tomua päänsä päälle.
Then Ioshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth vpon his face before the Arke of the Lord, vntill the euentide, he, and the Elders of Israel, and put dust vpon their heads.
7 Ja Josua sanoi: Ah Herra, Herra, miksis tämän kansan annoit olleenkaan tulla Jordanin ylitse, antaakses meitä Amorilaisten käsiin, hukuttaakses meitä? jospa me olisimme tyytyneet ja pysähtyneet sille puolelle Jordania!
And Ioshua said, Alas, O Lord God, wherefore hast thou brought this people ouer Iorden, to deliuer vs into the hande of the Amorites, and to destroye vs? would God we had bene content to dwell on the other side Iorden.
8 Voi minun Herrani, mitä minun pitää sanoman, että Israel selkänsä kääntää vihollistensa puoleen?
Oh Lord, what shall I say, when Israel turne their backes before their enemies?
9 Kuin Kanaanealaiset ja kaikki maan asuvaiset sen kuulevat, niin he piirittävät meidät ja hävittävät meidän nimemme maan päältä; mitäs siis teet sinun suurella nimelläs?
For the Canaanites, and all the inhabitants of the land shall heare of it, and shall compasse vs, and destroy our name out of the earth: and what wilt thou doe vnto thy mightie Name?
10 Niin sanoi Herra Josualle: nouse, miksi niin makaat kasvoillas?
And the Lord said vnto Ioshua, Get thee vp: wherefore lyest thou thus vpon thy face?
11 Israel on syntiä tehnyt ja rikkonut minun liittoni, jonka minä käskin heille, ja ottivat kirottua, ja varastivat, ja valhettelivat, ja panivat kaluinsa sekaan.
Israel hath sinned, and they haue transgressed my couenant, which I commanded them: for they haue euen taken of the excommunicate thing, and haue also stollen, and dissembled also, and haue put it euen with their owne stuffe.
12 Ei Israelin lapset voi seisoa vihamiestensä edessä, vaan kääntävät selkänsä vihollistensa puoleen; sillä he ovat kirouksessa. En minä enää ole teidän kanssanne, jollette hukuta kirottua teidän keskeltänne.
Therefore ye children of Israel cannot stand before their enemies, but haue turned their backes before their enemies, because they be execrable: neither will I bee with you any more, except ye destroy the excommunicate from among you.
13 Nouse, ja pyhitä kansa ja sano: pyhittäkäät teitänne huomeneen saakka; sillä näin sanoo Herra Israelin Jumala: kirous on sinun keskelläs Israel, sentähden et sinä ole seisovainen vihamiestes edessä, siihenasti kuin te kirouksen siirrätte pois teidän seastanne.
Vp therefore, sanctifie the people, and say, Sanctifie your selues against to morowe: for thus saith the Lord God of Israel, There is an execrable thing among you, O Israel, therefore ye cannot stand against your enemies, vntill ye haue put the execrable thing from among you.
14 Ja teidän pitää varhain huomeneltain käymän edes teidän sukukuntainne jälkeen: ja jonka sukukunnan päälle Herran arpa lankee, sen pitää käymän edes perhekuntainsa jälkeen: ja jonka perhekunnan päälle Herran arpa lankee, sen pitää käymän edes huonettensa jälkeen: ja jonka huoneen päälle Herran arpa lankee, pitää käymän edes kukin perheenisäntä toinen toisensa jälkeen.
In the morning therefore ye shall come according to your tribes, and the tribe which the Lord taketh, shall come according to the families: and the familie which the Lord shall take, shall come by the housholds: and the houshold which the Lord shall take, shall come man by man.
15 Ja pitää tapahtuman, että joka löydetään ryhtyneeksi johonkuhun kirottuun kaluun, se pitää tulella poltettaman ja kaikki mitä hänellä on, että hän Herran liiton on rikkonut ja tehnyt hulluuden Israelissa.
And he that is taken with the excommunicate thing, shall be burnt with fire, hee, and all that he hath, because he hath transgressed the couenant of the Lord, and because he hath wrought folly in Israel.
16 Niin nousi Josua varhain huomeneltain ja toi Israelin edes, yhden sukukunnan toisen jälkeen; ja arpa lankesi Juudan sukukunnan päälle.
So Ioshua rose vp earely in the morning and brought Israel by their tribes: and the tribe of Iudah was taken.
17 Ja kuin hän Juudan sukukunnan toi edes, lankesi arpa Serahilaisten perhekunnalle, ja kuin hän toi Serahilaisten perhekunnan edes, yhden perheenisännän toisen jälkeen, lankesi arpa Saddille.
And he brought the families of Iudah, and tooke the familie of the Zarhites, and he brought the familie of the Zarhites, man by man, and Zabdi was taken.
18 Ja kuin hän toi edes hänen huoneensa miesluvun jälkeen, niin lankesi arpa Akanille, Karmin pojalle, Saddin pojan, Seran pojan, Juudan sukukunnasta.
And he brought his houshold, man by man, and Achan ye sonne of Carmi, the sonne of Zabdi, the sonne of Zerah of the tribe of Iudah was take.
19 Ja Josua sanoi Akanille: minun poikani, anna Herralle Israelin Jumalalle kunnia ja anna hänelle ylistys, ja ilmoita minulle mitäs teit, ja älä salaa sitä minulta.
Then Ioshua said vnto Achan, My sonne, I beseech thee, giue glory to the Lord God of Israel, and make confession vnto him, and shewe me now what thou hast done: hide it not from me.
20 Silloin vastasi Akan Josualle ja sanoi: totisesti olen minä syntiä tehnyt Herraa Israelin Jumalaa vastaan: niin ja niin minä tein.
And Achan answered Ioshua, and saide, In deede, I haue sinned against the Lord God of Israel, and thus, and thus haue I done.
21 Minä näin saaliissa yhden kalliin Babelin hameen, ja kaksisataa sikliä hopiaa, ja kultaisen kielen, joka painoi viisikymmentä sikliä, joita minun mieleni teki, ja minä otin ne; ja katso, se on kaivettu maahan keskellä minun majaani ja hopia sen alla.
I sawe among the spoyle a goodly Babylonish garment, and two hundreth shekels of siluer, and a wedge of golde of fiftie shekels weight, and I coueted them, and tooke them: and behold, they lye hid in the earth in the mids of my tent, and the siluer vnder it.
22 Niin Josua lähetti sinne sanansaattajat, ja ne juoksivat majaan; ja katso, se oli kaivettu hänen majaansa ja hopia sen alla.
Then Ioshua sent messengers, which ran vnto the tent, and beholde, it was hid in his tent, and the siluer vnder it.
23 Ja he ottivat ne majasta, ja veivät ne Josuan ja kaikkein Israelin lasten tykö, ja panivat ne Herran eteen.
Therefore they tooke them out of the tent, and brought them vnto Ioshua, and vnto all the children of Israel, and layd them before the Lord.
24 Niin otti Josua ja koko Israel hänen kanssansa Akanin Seran pojan, ja hopian, ja hameen, ja kultaisen kielen, hänen poikansa ja tyttärensä, hänen härkänsä, aasinsa ja lampaansa, hänen majansa ja kaikki mitä hänen omansa oli, ja veivät ne Akorin laaksoon.
Then Ioshua tooke Achan the sonne of Zerah, and the siluer, and the garment and the wedge of golde and his sonnes, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheepe, and his tent, and all that hee had: and all Israel with him brought them vnto the valley of Achor.
25 Ja Josua sanoi: miksis meitä murheelliseksi saatit? saattakoon Herra sinun merheelliseksi tänäpäivänä. Ja koko Israel kivitti heitä kuoliaaksi, ja polttivat heidät tulella sitte kuin he olivat heidän kivittäneet.
And Ioshua said, In as much as thou hast troubled vs, the Lord shall trouble thee this day: and all Israel threwe stones at him, and burned them with fire, and stoned them with stones.
26 Ja sitte tekivät he suuren kiviroukkion heidän päällensä, joka vielä on tähän päivään asti. Niin lakkasi Herran vihan julmuus. Siitä kutsutaan se paikka Akorin laaksoksi tähän päivään asti.
And they cast vpon him a great heape of stones vnto this day: and so the Lord turned from his fierce wrath: therefore hee called the name of that place, The valley of Achor, vnto this day.
