Johanneksen 1
1 Alussa oli sana, ja se Sana oli Jumalan tykönä, ja Jumala oli se Sana.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and God was the Word.
2 Tämä oli alussa Jumalan tykönä.
He was with God in the beginning.
3 Kaikki ovat sen kautta tehdyt, ja ilman sitä ei ole mitään tehty, joka tehty on.
All things were made through Him, and nothing that was made was made without Him.
4 Hänessä oli elämä, ja elämä oli ihmisten valkeus,
Life was in Him, and Life was the light of men.
5 Ja valkeus paistaa pimeydessä, jota ei pimeys käsittänyt.
And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
6 Yksi mies oli lähetetty Jumalalta, jonka nimi oli Johannes:
There was a man sent by God, whose name was John.
7 Se tuli valkeudesta todistamaan, että kaikki uskoisivat hänen kauttansa.
He arrived as a witness to offer testimony about the Light, so that all would believe through him.
8 Ei hän ollut valkeus, mutta hän oli lähetetty valkeudesta todistamaan.
He was not the Light, but he was to offer testimony about the Light.
9 Se oli totinen valkeus, joka valistaa kaikki ihmiset, jotka maailmaan tulevat;
The true Light, which illuminates every man, was coming into this world.
10 Se oli maailmassa, ja maailma oli hänen kauttansa tehty, ja ei maailma häntä tuntenut.
He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world did not recognize him.
11 Hän tuli omillensa, ja ei hänen omansa häntä ottaneet vastaan,
He went to his own, and his own did not accept him.
12 Mutta niille, jotka hänen ottivat vastaan, antoi hän voiman Jumalan lapsiksi tulla, jotka uskovat hänen nimensä päälle,
Yet whoever did accept him, those who believed in his name, he gave them the power to become the sons of God.
13 Jotka ei verestä eikä lihan tahdosta ei myös miehen tahdosta, mutta Jumalasta syntyneet ovat.
These are born, not of blood, nor of the will of flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 Ja Sana tuli lihaksi ja asui meidän seassamme, (ja me näimme hänen kunniansa niinkuin ainoan Pojan kunnian Isästä, ) täynnä armoa ja totuutta.
And the Word became flesh, and he lived among us, and we saw his glory, glory like that of an only-begotten Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
15 Johannes todisti hänestä, ja huusi, sanoen: tämä oli se, josta minä sanoin: minun jälkeeni on tuleva, joka minun edelläni on ollut; sillä hän oli ennen kuin minä.
John offers testimony about him, and he cries out, saying: “This is the one about whom I said: ‘He who is to come after me, has been placed ahead of me, because he existed before me.’”
16 Ja me olemme kaikki hänen täydellisyydestänsä saaneet ja armon armosta.
And from his fullness, we all have received, even grace for grace.
17 Sillä laki on Moseksen kautta annettu: armo ja totuus on Jesuksen Kristuksen kautta tullut.
For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
18 Ei ole kenkään koskaan Jumalaa nähnyt: ainokainen Poika, joka on Isän helmassa, hän ilmoitti meille.
No one ever saw God; the only-begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he himself has described him.
19 Ja tämä on Johenneksen todistus, kuin Juudalaiset lähettivät Jerusalemista papit ja Leviläiset kysymään häneltä: kukas olet?
And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to him, so that they might ask him, “Who are you?”
20 Ja hän todisti ja ei kieltänyt, ja hän todisti, sanoen: en minä ole Kristus.
And he confessed it and did not deny it; and what he confessed was: “I am not the Christ.”
21 Ja he kysyivät häneltä: kukas siis? oletkos Elias? Hän sanoi: en. Oletkos propheta? Hän vastasi: en.
And they questioned him: “Then what are you? Are you Elijah?” And he said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.”
22 Niin he sanoivat hänelle: kukas olet? että me antaisimme niille vastauksen, jotka meidät lähettivät: mitäs sanot itsestäs?
Therefore, they said to him: “Who are you, so that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?”
23 Hän sanoi: minä olen huutava ääni korvessa: valmistakaat Herran tietä, niinkuin Jesaias propheta sanoi.
He said, “I am a voice crying out in the desert, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ just as the prophet Isaiah said.”
24 Ja jotka lähetetyt olivat, olivat Pharisealaisista.
And some of those who had been sent were from among the Pharisees.
25 Ja he kysyivät häneltä ja sanoivat hänelle: miksi siis sinä kastat, jos et ole Kristus, etkä Elias, etkä propheta?
And they questioned him and said to him, “Then why do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, and not Elijah, and not the Prophet?”
26 Johannes vastasi heitä ja sanoi: minä kastan vedellä; mutta teidän keskellänne seisoo, jota ette tunne:
John answered them by saying: “I baptize with water. But in your midst stands one, whom you do not know.
27 Hän on se, joka minun jälkeeni tulee, joka minun edelläni on ollut, jonka kengän rihmoja en minä ole kelvollinen päästämään.
The same is he who is to come after me, who has been placed ahead of me, the laces of whose shoes I am not worthy to loosen.”
28 Nämät tapahtuivat Betabarassa, sillä puolella Jordania, kussa Johannes kasti.
These things happened in Bethania, across the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
29 Toisena päivänä näki Johannes Jesuksen tykönsä tulevan, ja sanoi: katso, Jumalan Karitsa, joka pois ottaa maailman synnin!
On the next day, John saw Jesus coming toward him, and so he said: “Behold, the Lamb of God. Behold, he who takes away the sin of the world.
30 Tämä on se, josta minä sanoin: minun jälkeeni tulee mies, joka minun edelläni on ollut; sillä hän oli ennen kuin minä.
This is the one about whom I said, ‘After me arrives a man, who has been placed ahead of me, because he existed before me.’
31 Ja en minä häntä tuntenut; mutta että hän ilmestyisi Israelissa, sentähden tulin minä vedellä kastamaan.
And I did not know him. Yet it is for this reason that I come baptizing with water: so that he may be made manifest in Israel.”
32 Ja Johannes todisti, sanoen: minä näin Hengen taivaasta tulevan alas niinkuin kyyhkyisen ja seisahtavan hänen päällensä.
And John offered testimony, saying: “For I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove; and he remained upon him.
33 Ja en minä häntä tuntenut; mutta joka minun lähetti vedellä kastamaan, se sanoi minulle: jonka päälle sinä näet Hengen tulevan alas ja seisahtavan hänen päällesä, hän on se, joka kastaa Pyhällä Hengellä.
And I did not know him. But he who sent me to baptize with water said to me: ‘He over whom you will see the Spirit descending and remaining upon him, this is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’
34 Ja minä näin sen ja todistin hänen olevan Jumalan Pojan.
And I saw, and I gave testimony: that this one is the Son of God.”
35 Toisena päivänä seisoi Johannes taas ja kaksi hänen opetuslapsistansa,
The next day again, John was standing with two of his disciples.
36 Ja kuin hän näki Jesuksen käyvän, sanoi hän: katso, Jumalan Karitsa!
And catching sight of Jesus walking, he said, “Behold, the Lamb of God.”
37 Ja ne kaksi opetuslasta kuulivat hänen puhuvan, ja seurasivat Jesusta.
And two disciples were listening to him speaking. And they followed Jesus.
38 Mutta Jesus käänsi itsensä ja näki ne seuraavan, ja sanoi heille: Mitä te etsitte? Niin he sanoivat hänelle: Rabbi (se on niin paljo sanottu: opettaja) kussas asut?
Then Jesus, turning around and seeing them following him, said to them, “What are you seeking?” And they said to him, “Rabbi (which means in translation, Teacher), where do you live?”
39 Hän sanoi heille: tulkaat ja katsokaat; ja he tulivat ja näkivät, kussa hän asui, ja olivat sen päivän hänen tykönänsä, ja se oli lähes kymmenes hetki.
He said to them, “Come and see.” They went and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day. Now it was about the tenth hour.
40 Andreas, Simon Pietarin veli, oli yksi niistä kahdesta, jotka sen Johannekselta kuulleet olivat ja häntä seurasivat.
And Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two who had heard about him from John and had followed him.
41 Tämä löysi ensin veljensä Simonin, ja sanoi hänelle: me löysimme Messiaan; se on niin paljo kuin: voideltu.
First, he found his brother Simon, and he said to him, “We have found the Messiah,” (which is translated as the Christ).
42 Ja hän toi hänen Jesuksen tykö. Mutta kuin Jesus katsoi hänen päällensä, sanoi hän: sinä olet Simon Jonan poika, ja sinä pitää kutsuttaman Kephas; se on niin paljo kuin: kallio.
And he led him to Jesus. And Jesus, gazing at him, said: “You are Simon, son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas,” (which is translated as Peter).
43 Toisena päivänä tahtoi Jesus mennä Galileaan, ja löysi Philippuksen ja sanoi hänelle: seuraa minua!
On the next day, he wanted to go into Galilee, and he found Philip. And Jesus said to him, “Follow me.”
44 Mutta Philippus oli Betsaidasta, Andreaksen ja Pietarin kaupungista.
Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
45 Philippus löysi Natanaelin ja sanoi hänelle: me olemme löytäneet sen, josta Moses kirjoitti laissa ja prophetat, Jesuksen, Josephin pojan Natsaretista.
Philip found Nathanael, and he said to him, “We have found the one about whom Moses wrote in the Law and the Prophets: Jesus, the son of Joseph, from Nazareth.”
46 Ja Natanael sanoi hänelle: tulleeko Natsaretista jotain hyvää? Philippus sanoi hänelle: tule ja katso.
And Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good be from Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”
47 Jesus näki Natanaelin tykönsä tulevan, ja sanoi hänestä: katso, totisesti oikia Israelilainen, jossa ei petosta ole.
Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him, and he said about him, “Behold, an Israelite in whom truly there is no deceit.”
48 Natanael sanoi hänelle: mistäs minut tunnet? Jesus vastasi ja sanoi hänelle: ennen kuin Philippus kutsui sinua fikunapuun alla ollessas, näin minä sinun.
Nathanael said to him, “From where do you know me?” Jesus responded and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”
49 Vastasi Natanael ja sanoi hänelle: Rabbi, sinä olet Jumalan Poika, sinä olet Israelin kuningas.
Nathanael answered him and said: “Rabbi, you are the Son of God. You are the King of Israel.”
50 Jesus vastasi ja sanoi hänelle: sinä uskot, että minä sanoin sinulle: minä näin sinut fikunapuun alla. Sinä saat vielä suurempia nähdä.
Jesus responded and said to him: “Because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree, you believe. Greater things than these, you will see.”
51 Ja sanoi hänelle: totisesti, totisesti sanon minä teille: tästedes pitää teidän näkemän taivaan avoinna, ja Jumalan enkelit astuvan ylös ja tulevan alas Ihmisen Pojan päälle.
And he said to him, “Amen, amen, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the Angels of God ascending and descending over the Son of man.”
