Johanneksen 4
1 Kuin siis Herra ymmärsi Pharisealaisten kuulleeksi, että Jesus teki enemmin opetuslapsia ja kasti kuin Johannes;
Now when Jesus knew that the Pharisees had heard, “Jesus is making and baptizing more disciples than John”
2 (Vaikka ei Jesus itse kastanut, mutta hänen opetuslapsensa, )
(although Jesus Himself was not baptizing, but His disciples),
3 Jätti hän Juudean ja meni jälleen Galileaan.
He left Judea and went away into Galilee.
4 Mutta hänen piti Samarian kautta vaeltaman.
Now He needed to go through Samaria;
5 Niin hän tuli Samarian kaupunkiin, joka kutsuttiin Sikar, lähes sitä maakartanoa, jonka Jakob oli pojallensa Josephille antanut.
so He comes to a city of Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of land that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
6 Niin siellä oli Jakobin lähde. Kuin Jesus matkasta oli vasynyt, istui hän lähteen päälle, ja se oli liki kuudetta hetkeä.
Now Jacob's well was there; so Jesus, being worn out from the journey, sat as He was by the well. It was about 6 p.m.
7 Niin tuli yksi Samarian vaimo vettä ammentamaan, ja Jesus sanoi hänelle: anna minun juodakseni.
A woman of Samaria comes to draw water. Jesus says to her, “Give me a drink.”
8 Sillä hänen opetuslapsensa olivat menneet kaupunkiin ruokaa ostamaan.
(His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.)
9 Sanoi Samarian vaimo hänelle: kuinka sinä minulta juoda anot, joka olet Juudalainen, ja minä olen Samarialainen? sillä ei Juudalaiset pidä yhtään kanssakäymistä Samarialaisten kanssa.
So the Samaritan woman says to Him, “How can you, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, being a Samaritan woman?” (for Jews do not associate with Samaritans).
10 Jesus vastasi ja sanoi hänelle: jos sinä tietäisit Jumalan lahjan, ja kuka se on, joka sinulle sanoo: anna minun juodakseni! niin sinä anoisit häneltä, ja hän antaisi sinulle elävää vettä.
Jesus answered and said to her: “If you knew the gift of God, and who is the one saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”
11 Sanoi vaimo hänelle: Herra, eipä sinulla ole, milläs ammennat, ja lähde on syvä: kusta siis sinulla on elävää vettä?
The woman says to Him: “Sir, you don't even have a bucket, and the well is deep; so where do you get this living water?
12 Oletkos sinä suurempi kuin meidän isämme Jakob, joka meille tämän kaivon antoi? ja hän joi itse siitä, ja hänen lapsensa, ja hänen karjansa.
You aren't greater than our father Jacob, are you? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock.”
13 Jesus vastasi ja sanoi hänelle: jokainen, joka juo tästä vedestä, hän janoo jälleen;
Jesus answered and said to her: “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again,
15 Sanoi vaimo hänelle: Herra, anna minulle sitä vettä, etten minä janoaisi enkä tarvitsisi tulla tänne ammentamaan.
The woman says to Him, “Sir, give me this water! so that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.”
16 Jesus sanoi hänelle: mene, kutsu miehes, ja tule tänne.
Jesus says to her, “Go, call your husband and come back here.”
17 Vaimo vastasi ja sanoi hänelle: ei minulla ole miestä. Sanoi Jesus hänelle: oikein sinä sanoit: ei minulla ole miestä.
The woman answered and said, “I don't have a husband.” Jesus says to her: “You stated correctly that you do not have a husband,
18 Sillä viisi miestä on sinulla ollut, ja se joka sinulla nyt on, ei ole sinun miehes. Sen sinä oikein sanoit.
because you have had five husbands, and the one you have now is no husband of yours. You spoke the truth there!”
19 Vaimo sanoi hänelle: Herra, minä näen, että sinä olet propheta.
The woman says to Him: “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet.
20 Meidän isämme ovat tällä vuorella kumartaneet ja rukoilleet, ja te sanotte: Jerusalemissa on se sia, jossa pitää rukoiltaman.
Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, while you (pl) say that the place where one must worship is in Jerusalem.”
21 Jesus sanoi hänelle: vaimo, usko minua: se aika tulee, ettette tällä vuorella eikä Jerusalemissa Isää rukoile.
Jesus says to her: “Woman, believe me, a time is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.
22 Ette tiedä, mitä te rukoilette, mutta me tiedämme, mitä me rukoilemme; sillä autuus on Juudalaisista.
You [Samaritans] worship what you do not know; we [Jews] worship what we do know, because the salvation is from the Jews.
23 Mutta hetki tulee, ja jo nyt on, että totiset rukoiliat rukoilevat Isää hengessä ja totuudessa; sillä Isä tahtoo myös senkaltaisia, jotka häntä rukoilevat.
But the time is coming, in fact now is, when the genuine worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth. Really, because the Father is looking for such people to worship Him.
24 Jumala on Henki, ja jotka häntä rukoilevat, niiden pitää hengessä ja totuudessa häntä rukoileman.
God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
25 Vaimo sanoi hänelle: minä tiedän, että Messias on tuleva, joka kutsutaan Kristus: kuin hän tulee, niin hän ilmoittaa meille kaikki.
The woman says to Him: “I know that Messiah is coming (who is called Christ). When He comes He will explain everything to us.”
26 Jesus sanoi hänelle: minä olen se, joka sinun kanssas puhun.
Jesus says to her, “I am He, the one who is talking with you!”
27 Silloin tulivat hänen opetuslapsensa ja ihmettelivät, että hän sitä vaimoa puhutteli: ei kuitenkaan kenkään sanonut: mitäs kysyt? eli mitäs häntä puhuttelet?
At that point His disciples arrived, and they were amazed that He was talking with a woman; yet no one said, “What do you want?” or “Why are You talking with her?”
28 Niin vaimo jätti vesi-astiansa, ja meni kaupunkiin, ja sanoi niille ihmisille:
So the woman left her water jar, went her way into the town, and says to the men:
29 Tulkaa katsomaan sitä ihmistä, joka minulle sanoi kaikki, mitä minä tehnyt olen: olleeko hän Kristus?
“Come see a man who told me everything I ever did! Could this be the Messiah?”
30 Niin he läksivät kaupungista ja menivät hänen tykönsä.
So out they went from the town and started toward Him.
31 Mutta sillä välillä rukoilivat opetuslapset häntä, sanoen: Rabbi, syö.
Now in the meantime the disciples were urging Him saying, “Rabbi, eat.”
32 Vaan hän sanoi heille: minulla on ruokaa syödäkseni, jota ette tiedä.
But He said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.”
33 Niin opetuslapset sanoivat keskenänsä: lieneekö joku hänelle syötävää tuonut?
So the disciples started saying to one another, “Could someone have brought Him something to eat?”
34 Jesus sanoi heille: minun ruokani on se, että minä teen hänen tahtonsa, joka minun lähetti, ja täytän hänen tekonsa.
Jesus says to them: “My food is to do the will of Him who sent me and to complete His work.
35 Ettekö te sano: vielä ovat neljä kuukautta ja elonaika tulee? katso, minä sanon teille: nostakaat silmänne ylös ja katsokaat vainioita: sillä ne ovat jo valkiat elonajaksi.
Do you not say, ‘There are four months before the harvest comes?’ Well I say, Look! Lift your eyes and observe the fields; they are white for harvest already!
36 Ja joka niittää, hän saa palkan ja kokoo hedelmän ijankaikkiseen elämään: että kylväjä ja niittäjä ynnä iloitsisivat. (aiōnios g166)
Now he who reaps receives pay and gathers fruit into eternal life, so that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. (aiōnios g166)
37 Sillä tässä on se sana tosi; toinen on, joka kylvää, ja toinen, joka niittää.
Now the saying, ‘One is the sower and another the reaper,’ is true in this:
38 Minä lähetin teidät niittämään, jossa ette ole työtä tehdeet: muut ovat työtä tehneet ja te olette heidän työnsä päälle tulleet.
I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored and you have entered into their labors.”
39 Mutta monta Samarialaista siitä kaupungista uskoivat hänen päällensä sen vaimon puheen tähden, joka sanoi: hän on minulle kaikki sanonut, mitä minä tehnyt olen.
Now many of the Samaritans from that city believed into Him because of the word of the woman, testifying that “He told me everything I ever did!”
40 Kuin siis Samarialaiset tulivat hänen tykönsä, rukoilivat he häntä viipymään heidän tykönänsä. Ja hän viipyi siellä kaksi päivää.
So when the Samaritans came to Him they urged Him to stay with them; and He did stay there two days.
41 Ja paljo usiammat uskoivat hänen sanansa tähden.
Many more believed through His own word,
42 Ja sanoivat sille vaimolle: emme nyt silleen usko sinun puhees tähden; sillä me olemme itse kuulleet ja tiedämme, että hän on totisesti Kristus, maailman Vapahtaja.
and they kept saying to the woman, “It is not just because of what you said that we believe, because we ourselves have heard Him, and we know that this One is truly the Messiah, the Savior of the world!”
43 Mutta kahden päivän perästä läksi hän sieltä ja meni Galileaan.
So after the two days He departed from there and went on into Galilee.
44 Sillä Jesus todisti itse, ettei propheta maksa isänsä maalla mitään.
(For Jesus Himself testified that a prophet does not have honor in his own country.)
45 Kuin hän siis tuli Galileaan, ottivat Galilealaiset hänen vastaan, jotka olivat nähneet kaikki ne, mitä hän Jerusalemissa juhlana tehnyt oli: sillä he olivat myös juhlalle tulleet.
So when He came into Galilee the Galileans welcomed Him, having seen all the things that He did in Jerusalem, at the festival; for they too had gone to the festival.
46 Niin Jesus tuli taas Galilean Kaanaan, kussa hän meden viinaksi tehnyt oli. Ja oli kuninkaan mies, jonka poika sairasti Kapernaumissa.
So Jesus went again to Cana of Galilee, where He made the water wine. Now there was a certain royal official whose son was sick in Capernaum.
47 Kuin hän kuuli, että Jesus oli tullut Juudeasta Galileaan, meni hän hänen tykönsä ja rukoili häntä tulemaan alas ja parantamaan hänen poikansa, joka oli kuolemallansa.
When this man heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and implored Him to come down and heal his son, for he was about to die.
48 Sanoi siis Jesus hänelle: ellette näe tunnustähtiä ja ihmeitä, niin ette usko.
So Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders you will not believe!”
49 Sanoi kuninkaan mies hänelle: Herra, tule alas ennenkuin minun poikani kuolee.
The official says to Him, “Sir, come down before my child dies!”
50 Jesus sanoi hänelle: mene, sinun poikas elää. Ja mies uskoi sanan, jonka Jesus sanoi hänelle, ja meni.
Jesus says to him, “Go; your son lives.” Well the man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and off he went.
51 Niin hänen mennessänsä, kohtasivat hänen palveliansa hänen ja ilmoittivat hänelle, sanoen: sinun poikas elää.
Now while he was still going down his slaves met him and reported saying, “Your son lives!”
52 Niin hän tutki heiltä hetkeä, jolla hän parani, ja he sanoivat hänelle: eilen seitsemännellä hetkellä antoi vilutauti hänen ylön.
So he inquired of them the hour in which he got better. And they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.”
53 Niin isä ymmärsi sen siksi hetkeksi, jolla Jesus sanoi hänelle: sinun poikas elää. Ja hän uskoi ja koko hänen huoneensa.
So the father knew that it was at the exact hour in which Jesus told him, “Your son lives.” Both he himself and his whole household believed.
54 Tämä on toinen tunnustähti, jonka Jesus teki tullessansa Juudeasta Galileaan.
Again, coming out of Judea into Galilee, Jesus performed this second miraculous sign.
