Johanneksen 18
1 Kuin Jesus nämät oli sanonut, meni hän ulos opetuslastensa kanssa Kedronin ojan ylitse: siellä oli yrttitarha, johon hän meni sisälle ja hänen opetuslapsensa.
Jesus saying these things, went out with His disciples beyond the brook of Kidron, where there was a garden, into which He and His disciples came.
2 Mutta Juudas, joka hänen petti, tiesi myös sen paikan; sillä Jesus tuli sinne usein opetuslastensa kanssa.
And Judas, the one having betrayed Him; knew the place: because frequently Jesus with His disciples resorted thither.
3 Kuin siis Juudas oli joukon kanssansa ottanut ja palveliat ylimmäisiltä papeilta ja Pharisealaisilta, tuli hän sinne lyhdyillä, tulisoitoilla ja sota-aseilla.
Then Judas, having taken a band and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, comes thither with lanterns and torches and arms.
4 Kuin siis Jesus tiesi kaikki, mitä hänelle tapahtuman piti, niin hän läksi ja sanoi heille: ketä etsitte?
Then Jesus, knowing all things which are coming on Him, came out, says to them, Whom do you seek?
5 He vastasivat häntä: Jesusta Natsaretilaista. Sanoi Jesus heille: minä olen! Mutta Juudas, jonka hänen petti, seisoi myös heidän kanssansa.
They responded to Him, Jesus the Nazarene. Jesus says to them, I am He. And Judas also, the one having betrayed Him, stood with them.
6 Kuin siis Jesus sanoi heille: minä olen, astuivat he takaperin ja lankesivat maahan.
Then when He said to them, I am He, they went back, and fell on the ground.
7 Niin hän taas kysyi heiltä: ketä te etsitte? Mutta he sanoivat: Jesusta Natsarealaista.
Then He again asked them, Whom do you seek? And they said, Jesus the Nazarene.
8 Jesus vastasi: minä sanoin teille, että minä olen. Jos te siis minua etsitte, niin antakaat näiden mennä,
Jesus responded, I told you that I am He: if then you seek me, let these depart.
9 Että se puhe täytettäisiin, jonka hän oli sanonut: en minä niistä yhtään kadottanut, jotka sinä minulle annoit.
In order that the word which He spoke might be fulfilled, that, I have lost none of those whom thou hast given unto me.
10 Niin Simon Pietarilla oli miekka, jonka hän veti ulos, ja löi ylimmäisen papin palveliaa ja hakkasi pois hänen oikian korvansa; jonka palvelian nimi oli Malkus.
Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear. And the name to that servant was Malchus.
11 Niin Jesus sanoi Pietarille: pistä miekkas tuppeen: eikö minun pidä juoman sitä kalkkia, jonka Isä minulle antoi?
Then Jesus said to Peter, Put thy sword in the scabbard: the cup which the Father gave me, shall I not drink it?
12 Niin joukko ja ylimmäinen päämies ja Juudalaisten palveliat ottivat kiinni Jesuksen ja sitoivat hänen,
Then the band and chiliarch, and the officers of the Jews, took Jesus and bound Him.
13 Ja veivät ensin Hannaksen tykö, sillä hän oli Kaiphaan appi, joka oli sinä vuonna ylimmäinen pappi.
And they led Him first to Annas; for he was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.

And Caiaphas was the one counseling the Jews, that it is profitable that one man die for the people.

And Simon Peter and the other disciples followed Jesus. And that disciple was known to the high priest, and came with Jesus into the court of the high priest.
16 Mutta Pietari jäi ulos oven eteen. Niin toinen opetuslapsi, joka ylimmäisen papin tuttava oli, meni ulos ja puhui ovenvartialle, ja toi Pietarin sisälle.
And Peter stood without at the door. Then the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, came out and spoke to the porter, and led in Peter.
17 Niin sanoi ovenvartiapiika Pietarille: etkö sinäkin olen tämän miehen opetuslapsia? Hän sanoi: en ole.
And then the maidservant porter says to Peter, Art thou not one of the disciples of this man? He says, I am not.
18 Mutta palveliat, jotka hiilistä olivat tulen tehneet, sillä kylmä oli, seisoivat ja lämmittelivät. Ja Pietari seisoi myös heidän kanssansa ja lämmietteli.
And the servants and officers, having made a fire; because it was cold; were standing by it, and warming. And Peter was standing with them, and warming.
19 Niin ylimmäinen pappi kysyi Jesukselta hänen opetuslapsestansa ja opetuksestansa.
Then the high priest asked Jesus concerning His disciples and concerning His teaching.
20 Jesus vastasi häntä: minä olen maailman edessä julkisesti puhunut: minä olen synagogassa opettanut ja templissä, johonka Juudalaiset joka paikasta kokoon tulevat, ja en ole mitään salaisuudessa puhunut.
And Jesus said to him, I have spoken openly to the world. I always taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, where all the Jews come together; and I spoke nothing in secret.
21 Mitäs minulta kysyt? Kysy niiltä, jotka kuulivat, mitä minä heille puhunut olen. Katso, ne tietävät, mitä minä sanonut olen.
Why do you ask me? ask those who have heard, what I said to them: behold, they know what I said.
22 Mutta kuin hän näitä puhui, antoi yksi niistä palvelioita, jotka läsnä seisoivat, Jesukselle korvapuustin ja sanoi: niinkö sinä vastaat ylimmäistä pappia!
And He speaking these things, one of the officers standing by gave Jesus a slap, saying, Do you thus answer the high priest?
23 Jesus vastasi häntä: jos minä pahasti puhuin, niin tunnusta se pahaksi, mutta jos minä oikein puhuin, miksis minua lyöt?
Jesus responded to him, If I spoke wickedly, witness concerning the wickedness: but if beautifully, why do you smite me?
24 Niin Hannas lähetti hänen sidottuna ylimmäisen papin Kaiphaan tykö.
Then Annas sent Him bound to Caiaphas the high priest.
25 Mutta Simon Pietari seisoi ja lämmitteli. Niin he sanoivat hänelle: etkö sinä ole myös hänen opetuslapsiansa? Hän kielsi ja sanoi: en ole.
And Simon Peter was standing and warming: and they said to him, Art thou not one of His disciples? He denied, and said, I am not.
26 Sanoi hänelle yksi ylimmäisen papin palvelioista, sen lanko, jonka korvan Pietari hakkasi pois: enkö minä sinua nähnyt yrttitarhassa hänen kanssansa?
And one of the servants of the chief priest, being a kinsman of him whose ear Peter cut off, says, Did I not see thee in the garden with Him?
27 Niin Pietari taas kielsi, ja kohta kukko lauloi.
Then Peter again denied, and immediately the cock crew.
28 Niin he veivät Jesuksen Kaiphaan tyköä raastupaan. Mutta se oli aamu, ja ei he menneet raastupaan, ettei he itsiänsä saastuttaisi, vaan söisivät pääsiäislampaan.
Then they lead Jesus from Caiaphas to the judgment hall: and it was morning. And they did not come into the judgment hall, in order that they might not be polluted, but that they might eat the passover.
29 Niin Pilatus meni ulos heidän tykönsä ja sanoi: mitä kannetta te tuotte tätä miestä vastaan?
Then Pilate came out to them, and says, What accusation do you bring against this man?
30 He vastasivat ja sanoivat hänelle: ellei hän pahantekiä olisi, emme olisi häntä sinun haltuus antaneet.
They responded and said to him, If He were not an evil doer, we would not deliver Him to you.
31 Niin Pilatus sanoi heille: ottakaat te häntä ja tuomitkaat häntä teidän lakinne jälkeen. Juudalaiset sanoivat siis hänelle: meidän ei sovi ketään tappaa;
Then Pilate said to them. You take Him, and judge Him according to your law. Then the Jews said to him, It is not lawful for us to kill any one.
32 Että jesuksen puhe täytettäisiin, kuin hän sanoi, merkiten, millä kuolemalla hänen piti kuoleman.
In order that the word of Jesus might be fulfilled, which He spoke, signifying by what death He was about to die.
33 Niin Pilatus taas meni raastupaan, kutsui Jesuksen ja sanoi hänelle: oletkos sinä Juudalaisten kuningas?
Then Pilate came again into the judgment hall, and asked Jesus, and said to Him, Art thou the King of the Jews?
34 Jesus vastasi häntä: sanotko sinä sen itsestäs, eli ovatko muut sen minusta sinulle sanoneet?
Jesus responded, Do you speak this of yourself, or did others tell you concerning me?
35 Pilatus vastasi: olenko minä Juudalainen? Sinun kansas ja ylimmäiset papit antoivat ylön sinun minulle: mitäs tehnyt olet?
Pilate responded, Whether am I a Jew? thine own nation and the chief priests delivered thee to me: what hast thou done?
36 Jesus vastasi: ei minun valtakuntani ole tästä maailmasta. Jos minun valtakuntani olis tästä maailmasta, niin tosin minun palveliani olisivat sotineet, etten minä olisi tullut annetuksi ylön Juudalaisille; mutta ei minun valtakuntakuntani ole täältä.
Jesus responded, My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would fight for me, in order that I might not be delivered to the Jews. But now my kingdom is not from thence.
37 Niin Pilatus sanoi hänelle: niin sinä olet kuningas? Jesus vastasi: sinä sen sanot, että minä olen kuningas. Sitä varten olen minä syntynyt ja sitä varten maailmaan tullut, että minä totuden tunnustan. Jokainen, joka on totuudesta, se kuulee minun ääneni.
Then Pilate said to Him, Then, art thou not a king? Jesus responded, Thou says that I am king. Unto this I was born, and unto this I have come into the world, in order that I may bear witness to the truth. Every one being of the truth hears my voice.
38 Pilatus sanoi hänelle: minä on totuus? Ja kuin hän sen sanonut oli, meni hän taas ulos Juudalaisten tykö ja sanoi heille: en minä löydä yhtään syytä hänessä.
Pilate says to Him, What is truth? And saying this, again he went out to the Jews, and speaks to them, I find no crime in Him.
39 Mutta teillä on tapa, että minun pitää teille päästämän yhden pääsiäisenä: tahdotteko siis, että minä päästän teille Juudalaisten kuninkaan?
There is a custom to you, that I release unto you one during the passover. Then do you wish that I may release unto you the King of the Jews?
40 Niin he huusivat taas kaikki, sanoen: ei tätä, vaan Barabbasta. Mutta Barabbas oli ryöväri.
Then they all again cried out, saying, Not Him, but Barabbas. And Barabbas was a robber.
