1 Ja Herra vastasi Jobia ja sanoi:
And Jehovah answered Job and said,
2 Joka riitelee Kaikkivaltiaan kanssa, eikö hänen pitäis sitä vahvistaman? ja se joka nuhtelee Jumalaa, eikö hänen pitäis vastaaman?
Shall he that will contend with the Almighty instruct [him]? he that reproveth God, let him answer it.
3 Job vastasi Herraa ja sanoi:
And Job answered Jehovah and said,
4 Katso, minä olen halpa, mitä minä sinua vastaan? minä lasken käteni suuni päälle.
Behold, I am nought: what shall I answer thee? I will lay my hand upon my mouth.
5 Minä olen kerran puhunut, en minä enempää vastaa, enkä toiste sitä enää tee.
Once have I spoken, and I will not answer; yea twice, but I will proceed no further.
6 Ja Herra vastasi Jobia tuulispäästä ja sanoi:
And Jehovah answered Job out of the whirlwind and said,
7 Vyötä kupees niinkuin mies: Minä kysyn sinulta, ja vastaa sinä minua.
Gird up now thy loins like a man: I will demand of thee, and inform thou me.
8 Pitäiskö sinun minun tuomioni tyhjäksi tekemän, ja minua vääräksi soimaaman, ettäs itse olisit hurskas?
Wilt thou also annul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me that thou mayest be righteous?
9 Onko sinulla käsivarsi niinkuin Jumalalla? ja taidatkos yhdenkaltaisella äänellä jylistää hänen kanssansa.
Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?
10 Kaunista sinus suurella kunnialla ja korkeudella: pueta sinus kiitoksella ja kunnialla,
Deck thyself now with glory and excellency, and clothe thyself with majesty and splendour.
11 Hajoita sinun julmuutes viha, ja katso kaikkia ylpeitä ja nöyryytä heitä.
Cast abroad the ragings of thine anger, and look on every one that is proud, and abase him:
12 Katso kaikkia ylpeitä, ja alaspaina heitä, ja kukista jumalattomat paikastansa.
Look on every one that is proud, bring him low, and tread down the wicked in their place:
13 Hautaa heitä kaikkia maahan, ja upota heidän jaloutensa kätköön.
Hide them in the dust together; bind their faces in secret.
14 Niin minä tunnustan sinun oikian kätes auttavan sinua.
Then will I also praise thee, because thy right hand saveth thee.
15 Katso nyt Behemotia, jonka minä sinun vierees tehnyt olen, joka syö heiniä niinkuin härkä.
See now the behemoth, which I made with thee: he eateth grass as an ox.
16 Katso, hänen väkensä on hänen kupeissansa, ja hänen voimansa hänen vatsansa navassa.
Behold now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the muscles of his belly.
17 Hänen häntänsä ojentuu niinkuin sedripuu, ja hänen salaisen kalunsa suonet ovat niinkuin puun oksat.
He bendeth his tail like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are woven together.
18 Hänen luunsa ovat vahvat niinkuin vaski, hänen ruotonsa niinkuin rautaiset seipäät.
His bones are tubes of bronze, his members are like bars of iron.
19 Hän on alku Jumalan teistä; joka hänen tehnyt on, hän voittaa hänen miekallansa.
He is the chief of God's ways: he that made him gave him his sword.
20 Vuori kantaa hänelle ruohot; ja kaikki pedot leikitsevät siellä.
For the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play.
21 Hän makaa mielellänsä varjossa, lymyssä kaisloissa ja mudassa.
He lieth under lotus-bushes, in the covert of the reed and fen:
22 Pensas peittää hänen varjollansa, ja ojan halavat peittävät hänen.
Lotus-bushes cover him with their shade; the willows of the brook surround him.
23 Katso, koska virta ylöttää häntä, niin ei hän pelkää: hän on rohkia, vaikka Jordan hänen suuhunsa asti kuohuis.
Lo, the river overfloweth — he startleth not: he is confident though a Jordan break forth against his mouth.
24 Hän saavutetaan nähtensä, ja pauloilla pistetään hänen nenänsä lävitse.
Shall he be taken in front? will they pierce through [his] nose in the trap?
