Jobin 4
1 Ja Eliphas Temanilainen vastasi ja sanoi,
Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said,
2 Jos joku sinun kanssas rupeis puhumaan: mitämaks et sinä sitä kärsi; mutta kuka taitaa vaiti olla?
If one assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieved? But who can withhold himself from speaking?
3 Katso, sinä olet monta neuvonut, ja vahvistanut väsyneitä käsiä.
Behold, thou hast instructed many, And thou hast strengthened the weak hands.
4 Sinun puhees on ojentanut langenneita, ja vapisevaisia polvia vahvistanut.
Thy words have upholden him that was falling, And thou hast made firm the feeble knees.
5 Mutta että se nyt tulee sinun päälles, niin sinä väsyit, ja että se lankesi sinun päälles, niin sinä peljästyit.
But now it is come unto thee, and thou faintest; It toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.
6 Tämäkö on sinun (Jumalan) pelkos, sinun uskallukses, sinun toivos ja sinun vakuutes?
Is not thy fear [of God] thy confidence, [And] the integrity of thy ways thy hope?
7 Muistele nyt, kussa joku viatoin on hukkunut? eli kussa hurskaat ovat joskus hävinneet?
Remember, I pray thee, who [ever] perished, being innocent? Or where were the upright cut off?
8 Niinkuin minä kyllä nähnyt olen, ne jotka kyntävät vääryyden, ja onnettomuuden kylvävät, sitä he myös niittävät.
According as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, And sow trouble, reap the same.
9 He ovat Jumalan puhalluksen kautta kadonneet, ja hänen vihansa hengeltä hukatut.
By the breath of God they perish, And by the blast of his anger are they consumed.
10 Jalopeuran kiljumus, ja julma jalopeuran ääni, ja nuorten jalopeurain hampaat ovat lovistetut.
The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, And the teeth of the young lions, are broken.
11 Vanha jalopeura hukkuu, ettei hänellä ole saalista; ja jalopeuran pojat hajoitetaan.
The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, And the whelps of the lioness are scattered abroad.
12 Ja minun tyköni on tullut salainen sana; ja minun korvani on saanut vähäisen siitä.
Now a thing was secretly brought to me, And mine ear received a whisper thereof.
13 Kuin minä ajattelin yönäkyjä, kuin uni lankee ihmisten päälle,
In thoughts from the visions of the night, When deep sleep falleth on men,
14 Niin pelko ja vavistus tuli minun päälleni, ja kaikki minun luuni peljätettiin;
Fear came upon me, and trembling, Which made all my bones to shake.
15 Ja henki meni minun sivuitseni; kaikki minun karvani nousivat ruumiissani.
Then a spirit passed before my face; The hair of my flesh stood up.
16 Silloin seisoi kuva minun silmäini edessä, jonka kasvoja en minä tuntenut; ja minä kuulin hiljaisen hyminän äänen:
It stood still, but I could not discern the appearance thereof; A form was before mine eyes: [There was] silence, and I heard a voice, [saying],
17 Kuinka on ihminen hurskaampi kuin JumaIa? eli joku mies puhtaampi kuin se, joka hänen tehnyt on?
Shall mortal man be more just than God? Shall a man be more pure than his Maker?
18 Katso, palveliainsa seassa ei löydä hän uskollisuutta ja enkeleissänsä löytää hän tyhmyyden:
Behold, he putteth no trust in his servants; And his angels he chargeth with folly:
19 Kuinka enemmin niissä jotka asuvat savihuoneissa, niissä jotka ovat perustetut maan päälle, jotka toukkain tavalla murentuvat?
How much more them that dwell in houses of clay, Whose foundation is in the dust, Who are crushed before the moth!
20 Se pysyy aamusta ehtoosen asti, niin he muserretaan; ja ennenkuin he sen havaitsevat, he ijankaikkisesti hukkuvat.
Betwixt morning and evening they are destroyed: They perish for ever without any regarding it.
21 Eikö heidän jälkeenjääneensä pois oteta? he kuolevat, vaan ei viisaudessa.
Is not their tent-cord plucked up within them? They die, and that without wisdom.
