1 Ja Elihu vielä sanoi:
Furthermore Elihu responded, and said: —
2 Te taitavat, kuulkaat minun puhettani, ja te ymmärtäväiset, ottakaat korviinne.
Hear, ye wise men, my words, and, ye who know, give ear unto me;
3 Sillä korva koettelee puheen, ja suu maistaa ruan.
For, the ear, trieth words, as, the palate, tasteth in eating.
4 Valitkaamme meillemme oikeus, tietääksemme keskenämme, mikä hyvä on.
What is right, let us choose for ourselves, Let us know, among ourselves, what is good;
5 Sillä Job on sanonut: minä olen hurskas, ja Jumala on kieltänyt minulta oikeuteni.
For Job hath said—I am righteous, But, GOD, hath turned away my right;
6 Minun täytyy valhetella, ehkä minulla vielä oikeus olis: minä vaivataan ilman ansiota minun nuoliltani.
Concerning mine own right, shall I tell a falsehood? Incurable is my disease—not for any transgression.
7 Kuka on Jobin vertainen, joka irvistystä juo niinkuin vettä,
What man is like Job? He drinketh in scoffing like water;
8 Ja käy pahantekiäin kanssa tiellä, niin että vaeltaa jumalattomain kanssa?
And is on the way to keep company, with the workers of iniquity, and to walk with lawless men.
9 Sillä hän on sanonut: Ei se auta ihmistä, että hän pyytää Jumalalle kelvata.
For he hath said, It profiteth not a man, when, his good pleasure, is with God.
10 Sentähden, te toimelliset, kuulkaat minua. Pois se, että Jumala olis jumalatoin ja Kaikkivaltias väärä.
Wherefore, ye men of mind, hearken unto me, —Far be it, that, GOD, should be lawless, or, the Almighty, be perverse!
11 Sillä hän antaa itsekullekin ihmiselle ansionsa jälkeen, ja maksaa tiensä jälkeen.
For, what any son of earth doeth, he repayeth him, and, according to every man’s course, he causeth him to find.
12 Ilman epäilemätä, ei Jumala tuomitse ketään vääryydellä, eikä Kaikkivaltias käännä oikeutta.
Nay, verily, GOD, will not condemn unjustly, —nor, the Almighty, pervert justice.
13 Kuka on asettanut ne mitkä maan päällä ovat, ja kuka on pannut koko maanpiirin?
Who set him in charge of the earth? Or who appointed [him] the whole world?
14 Jos hän tahtois, niin hän vois kaikkein hengen ja elämän koota tykönsä.
If he should set against him his heart, His spirit and his inspiration, unto himself he should withdraw.
15 Kaikki liha kuolis yhteen, ja ihminen tulis tuhaksi jälleen.
All flesh together, would cease to breathe, and, the earth-born, unto dust, would return.
16 Onko sinulla ymmärrystä, niin kuule näitä, ja ota vaari puheeni äänestä.
If then [thou hast] understanding, hear this, Give thou ear to the teaching of my words: —
17 Taivuttaisko joku sentähden oikeuden, että hän vihaa häntä, ja tahtoisitkos hurskaan ja jalon tuomita jumalattomaksi?
Shall, the very hater of right, control? Or, the just—the mighty one, wilt thou condemn?
18 Pitäiskö sanottaman kuninkaalle: sinä Belial! ja ruhtinaille: te jumalattomat!
Doth one say to a king, Abandoned one! Or, Lawless one! unto nobles?
19 Joka ei kuitenkaan katso ruhtinain muotoa, eikä pidä eroitusta rikkaan ja köyhän välillä; sillä he ovat kaikki hänen käsialansa.
For he hath shewn no respect of persons unto princes, neither hath he recognised the rich rather than the poor? For, the work of his hands, are they all.
20 Pikaisesti täytyy heidän kuolla vielä puoliyönäkin: kansan täytyy hämmästyä ja hukkua: väkevä voimatoinna otetaan pois.
In a moment, they die, even in the middle of the night, —A people are convulsed when they pass away, A mighty one is removed, without hand;
21 Sillä hänen silmänsä näkevät jokaisen tien, ja hän katsoo kaikki heidän askeleensa.
For, his eyes, are on the ways of a man, and, all his footsteps, he beholdeth, —
22 Ei pimiä eikä kuoleman varjo ole siellä, että pahantekiät itsensä siinä salaisivat.
No darkness, and no death-shade, where the workers of iniquity may hide.
23 Sillä ei ole yhdellekään sallittu, että hän tulis Jumalan kanssa oikeudelle.
For, unto no man, doth he appoint a repetition, —in going unto GOD in judgment;
24 Hän musertaa monta epälukuista tuimaa, ja asettaa muita heidän siaansa;
He shattereth mighty ones unsearchably, and setteth up others in their stead:
25 Että hän tuntee heidän työnsä, ja kukistaa heitä yöllä, että he muserretaan rikki.
Therefore, he observeth their works, —and overturneth [them] in a night, and they are crushed;
26 Hän heittää jumalattomat ilmeisesti kokoon,
In the place of lawless men, hath he chastised them, in presence of beholders.
27 Ettei he häntä seuranneet, ja ei tahtoneet ymmärtää hänen teitänsä;
Forasmuch, as they turned from following him, and, none of his ways, did they teach;
28 Että vaivaisten hunto tulis hänen eteensä ja hän kuulis viheliäisten huudon.
Causing to reach him the outcry of the poor, Yea, the outcry of the oppressed, he heareth.
29 Jos hän antaa rauhan, kuka tahtoo kadottaa? ja jos hän peittää kasvonsa, kuka taitaa katsoa hänen päällensä, kansan ja ihmisten seassa?
When, he, giveth quiet, who then shall condemn? And, when he hideth [his] face, who then shall sing of him? whether unto a nation or unto mankind altogether,
30 Niin ei hän anna ulkokullatun hallita, kansan lankeemuksen tähden.
That impious men may not reign, nor be ensnarers of the people.
31 Minä puhun Jumalan edessä, joka sanoo: minä olen säästänyt, en minä turmele.
For, unto GOD, hath one [ever] said—I have borne punishment, I will not be perverse;
32 Ellen minä ole osannut, niin opeta sinä minua: jos minä olen tehnyt väärin, niin en minä sitä silleen tee.
What I see not, do, thou, shew me, If, perverseness, I have wrought, I will do it no more?
33 Onko joku, joka vastaa sinun puolestas, koska et sinä tahdo? se on sinun ehdossas, ja ei minun. Jos sinä nyt jotakin tiedät, niin puhu.
According to thy mind, must he requite it, that thou hast refused? For, thou, must choose, and not, I, What then thou knowest, speak!
34 Toimellisten miesten sallin minä kyllä puhua minulleni. Ja taitava mies kuulee minua.
The men of mind, will say to me, yea any wise man hearkening unto me: —
35 Mutta Job puhuu tyhmästi, ja hänen puheessansa ei ole ymmärrystä.
Job, without knowledge, doth speak, and, his words, are not with discretion.
36 Minun isäni! anna Jobia koeteltaa loppuun asti, että hän kääntää itsensä vääräin ihmisten tykö.
Would that Job might be tested to the uttermost, for replying with the men of iniquity:
37 Hän on paitsi entisiä syntejänsä vielä nyt pilkannut: anna hänen meidän edessämme lyödyksi tulla, ja sitte hän riidelkään kyllä sanoillansa Jumalan edessä.
For he addeth—unto his sin—rebellion, In our midst, he clappeth his hands, and multiplieth his sayings against GOD.
