1 Kuule siis, Job, minun puhettani, ja ota vaari kaikista sanoistani!
Therefore do thou but hear, O Job, my speeches, and give ear to all my words.
2 Katso, minä avaan suuni, ja kieleni puhuu minun suussani.
Behold now, I have opened my mouth, my tongue speaketh in my mouth.
3 Minun sydämeni puhuu oikeuden, ja minun huuleni sanoo puhtaan ymmärryksen.
Out of my straightforward heart [come] my sayings, and my lips utter knowledge clearly.
4 Jumalan henki on tehnyt minun, ja KaikkivaItiaan henki on minulle antanut elämän.
The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty giveth me life.
5 Jos taidat, niin vastaa minua; valmista itses, ja tule minun eteeni.
If thou canst, answer me, array thyself before me, stand forward.
6 Katso, minä olen Jumalan oma niinkuin sinäkin, ja savesta olen minä myös tehty.
Behold, I am in the same relation as thyself toward God: I myself also am cut out of the clay.
7 Katso, ei sinun tarvitse hämmästyä minua, ja minun käteni ei ole sinulle raskas.
Behold, dread of me cannot terrify thee, and my pressure will not be too heavy upon thee.
8 Sinä olet puhunut minun korvaini kuullen: sinun ääntäs täytyy minun kuulla:
But thou hast said before my ears, and the sound of the words I still hear,
9 Minä olen puhdas ja ilman laitosta, viatoin ja synnitöin.
“I am pure without transgression, I am quite clean; and there is no iniquity in me:
10 Katso, hän on löytänyt syyn minua vastaan, sentähden pitää hän minun vihollisenansa.
Yet, behold, he findeth hateful backsliding on me, he regardeth me as an enemy unto him;
11 Hän on pannut minun jalkani jalkapuuhun, ja kätkenyt minun tieni.
He putteth my feet in the stocks, he watcheth all my paths.”
12 Katso, juuri siitä minä päätän, ettes ole hurskas; sillä Jumala on suurempi kuin yksikään ihminen.
Behold, In this thou art not just: I will answer thee; for God is far greater than a mortal.
13 Miksis riitelet hänen kanssansa, ettei hän tee sinulle lukua kaikista töistänsä?
Why dost thou contend against him? for with all his words will he not give an answer.
14 Jos Jumala vihdoin jotakin käskee, ei hän sitä jälistä ajattele.
For God speaketh once, yea twice: [yet man] regardeth it not.
15 Uninäössä yöllä, kuin uni tulee ihmisten päälle, kuin he makaavat vuoteessa,
In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumbers upon the couch:
16 Silloin hän ilmoittaa ihmisten korviin, ja vahvistaa sen heidän nuhtelemisellansa,
Then doth he lay open the ear of men, and sealeth it with their warning;
17 Kääntääksensä ihmistä aivoituksestansa, ja varjellaksensa ylpeydestä.
To remove the son of earth [from his intended] deed and he covereth up pride from man;
18 Hän säästää hänen sieluansa turmeluksesta, ja hänen elämäänsä, ettei se miekkaan lankeaisi.
He withholdeth his soul from the pit, and his life from passing away by the sword.
19 Ja kurittaa häntä kivulla vuoteessansa, ja kaikki hänen luunsa väkevällä kivulla,
And so is he admonished by pain upon his couch, and all his bones with violent [aches].
20 Ja niin toimittaa hänen kauhistumaan ruokaa, ja hänen mielensä kyylyttämään ravintoa;
So that his inclination abhorreth bread, and his soul, the most agreeable food.
21 Että hänen lihansa surkastuu, niin ettei sitä nähdä, ja hänen luunsa särkyvät, niin ettei niitä mielellä katsella;
His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen, and his bones that were not seen stick out.
22 Että hänen sielunsa lähenee turmelusta, ja hänen elämänsä kuolemaa.
Yea, his soul draweth near unto the pit, and his life to those that slay.
23 Kuin siis hänen tykönsä tulee enkeli, välimies, joka ainoa on enempi tuhansia, ilmoittamaan sille ihmiselle vanhurskauttansa,
If there be now about him one single angel, as defender, one out of a thousand, to tell for man his uprightness:
24 Ja armahtaa häntä, ja sanoo: pelasta häntä menemästä alas turmelukseen; sillä minä olen löytänyt sovinnon;
Then is he gracious unto him, and saith, Release him from going down to the pit, I have found an atonement.
25 Niin hänen lihansa tuorehtii enemmin kuin lapsuudessa ja tulee taas niinkuin nuoruutensa aikana.
His flesh becometh full again as in youth: he returneth to the days of his boyhood.
26 Hän rukoilee Jumalaa, joka hänelle osoittaa armon: hän antaa kasvonsa nähdä ilolla, ja maksaa ihmiselle hänen vanhurskautensa.
He will offer his entreaty unto God, and he will receive him in favor, that he may see his face with joy: so doth He recompense unto the mortal his righteousness.
27 Hän tunnustaa ihmiselle ja sanoo: minä olen syntiä tehnyt ja oikeuden vääntänyt; vaan ei se minua auttanut.
He then should assemble men around, and say, “I had sinned, and perverted what is right, yet have I not received a like return.”
28 Hän pelasti minun sieluni, ettei se tulisi turmelukseen, vaan että minun elämäni näkis valkeuden.
Thus he redeemeth his soul from passing into the pit, and his life will look joyously on the light.
29 Katso, nämät kaikki tekee Jumala itsekullekin kolme kertaa,
Lo, all these things doth God two or three times with man;
30 Tuodaksensa heidän sielunsa jälleen turmeluksesta ja valaistaksensa elävien valkeudella.
To bring back his soul from the pit, that she may shine in the light of life.
31 Job, ota tästä vaari ja kuule, ole myös ääneti, että minä puhuisin!
Listen well, O Job, hearken unto me: keep silence, and I will truly speak.
32 Mutta jos sinulla on jotakin puhumista, niin vastaa minua. Puhu! sillä minä tahdon, ettäs olisit vanhurskas.
If thou hast any words, answer me: speak, for I wish to justify thee.
33 Jos ei, niin kuule sinä minua, ja ole ääneti; minä opetan sinulle taidon.
If not, hearken thou unto me: keep silence, and I will teach thee wisdom.
