1 Job vastasi ja sanoi:
Then Job answered and said:
2 Ketäs autat? sitäkö, jolla ei voimaa ole? autatkos sitä, jolla ei voimaa ole käsivarressa?
How hast thou helped the weak, And strengthened the feeble arm!
3 Ketäs neuvot? sitäkö, joka ei mitään tiedä, ja opetat voimallista toimittamaan?
How hast thou counselled the ignorant, And revealed wisdom in fulness!
4 Kenen edessä sinä puhut, ja kenen edessä henkes käy ulos?
For whom hast thou uttered these words? And whose spirit spake through thee?
5 Uljaat huokaavat, niin myös ne, jotka veden alla asuvat.
Before Him the shades tremble Beneath the waters and their inhabitants.
The under-world is naked before him, And destruction is without covering. (Sheol h7585)
7 Hän venyttää pohjoisen tyhjän päälle, ja maa riippuu tyhjän päällä.
He stretcheth out the north over empty space, And hangeth the earth upon nothing.
8 Vedet hän kokoo pilviinsä, ja pilvet ei repee niiden alla.
He bindeth up the waters in his thick clouds, And the cloud is not rent under them.
9 Hän pitää istuimensa, ja levittää pilvensä sen päälle.
He covereth the face of his throne, And spreadeth his clouds upon it.
10 Hän on asettanut määrän vetten ympärille, siihenasti kuin valkeus ja pimeys loppuvat.
He hath drawn a circular bound upon the waters, To the confines of light and darkness.
11 Taivaan patsaat vapisevat ja hämmästyvät hänen kurituksestansa.
The pillars of heaven tremble And are confounded at his rebuke.
12 Voimallansa on hän halaissut meren, ja hänen ymmärryksestänsä tyventyy meren ylpeys.
By his power he stilleth the sea, Yea, by his wisdom he smiteth its pride.
13 Taivas tulee kirkkaaksi hänen ilmansa kautta, ja hän valmistaa kädellänsä pitkän kärmeen.
By his spirit he hath garnished the heavens; His hand hath formed the fleeing Serpent.
14 Katso, näin tapahtuu hänen tekoinsa kanssa, mutta näistä olemme me vähän kuulleet; vaan kuka voi ymmärtää hänen väkevyytensä jylinän?
Lo! these are but the borders of his works; How faint the whisper we have heard of him! But the thunder of his power who can understand?
