Jobin 12
1 Niin vastasi Job ja sanoi:
Then Job answered,
2 Te olette miehet; taito kuolee teidän kanssanne.
“No doubt, but you are the people, and wisdom will die with you.
3 Minulla on niin sydän kuin teilläkin, enkä ole alemmaisempi teitä: kuka se on, joka ei näitä tiedä?
But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you. Yes, who doesn’t know such things as these?
4 Joka lähimmäiseltänsä pilkataan, niinkuin minä, hän rukoilee Jumalaa, ja hän kuulee häntä: hurskas ja vakaa pilkataan.
I am like one who is a joke to his neighbor, I, who called on God, and he answered. The just, the blameless man is a joke.
5 Hän on ylönkatsottu kynttiläinen ylpeiden ajatuksissa, valmistettu, että he siihen loukkaavat jalkansa,
In the thought of him who is at ease there is contempt for misfortune. It is ready for them whose foot slips.
6 Ryövärein majoissa on kyllä, ja he härsyttelevät rohkiasti Jumalaa, ehkä Jumala on sen antanut heidän käteensä.
The tents of robbers prosper. Those who provoke God are secure, who carry their god in their hands.
7 Kysy siis eläimiltä, ja he opettavat sinua, ja taivaan linnuilta, ja he sanovat sinulle.
“But ask the animals now, and they will teach you; the birds of the sky, and they will tell you.
8 Taikka puhu maan kanssa, ja hän opettaa sinua; ja kalat meressä ilmoittavat sinulle.
Or speak to the earth, and it will teach you. The fish of the sea will declare to you.
9 Kuka se on, joka ei kaikkia näitä tiedä, että Herran käsi on ne tehnyt?
Who doesn’t know that in all these, the LORD’s hand has done this,
10 Että hänen kädessänsä on kaikkein elävien sielu, ja kunkin lihan henki?
in whose hand is the life of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind?
11 Eikö korva koettele puhetta, ja suu maista ruokaa?
Doesn’t the ear try words, even as the palate tastes its food?
12 Vanhoilla on taito, ja pitkä-ijällisillä ymmärrys.
With aged men is wisdom, in length of days understanding.
13 Hänen tykönänsä on taito ja voima; hänen on neuvo ja ymmärrys.
“With God is wisdom and might. He has counsel and understanding.
14 Katso, koska hän kukistaa, niin ei auta rakentamaan: koska hän jonkun salpaa, niin ei kenkään taida avata.
Behold, he breaks down, and it can’t be built again. He imprisons a man, and there can be no release.
15 Katso, koska hän pidättää veden, niin kaikki kuivettuu, ja koska hän laskee, niin se kääntää maan.
Behold, he withholds the waters, and they dry up. Again, he sends them out, and they overturn the earth.
16 Hän on vahva Ja pysyväinen: hänen on se joka eksyy, ja se joka eksyttää.
With him is strength and wisdom. The deceived and the deceiver are his.
17 Hän johdattaa kavalat niinkuin saaliin, ja saattaa tuomarit tyhmäksi.
He leads counselors away stripped. He makes judges fools.
18 Hän päästää kuningasten siteet, ja vyöttää heidän kupeensa.
He loosens the bond of kings. He binds their waist with a belt.
19 Papit vie hän niinkuin saaliin, ja väkevät kukistaa.
He leads priests away stripped, and overthrows the mighty.
20 Hän vääntää pois totisten huulet, vanhain toimen ottaa hän pois.
He removes the speech of those who are trusted, and takes away the understanding of the elders.
21 Hän kaataa ylönkatseen päämiesten päälle, ja voimallisten väkevyyden hajoittaa.
He pours contempt on princes, and loosens the belt of the strong.
22 Hän ilmoittaa pimiät perustukset, ja kuoleman varjon saattaa hän valkeuteen.
He uncovers deep things out of darkness, and brings out to light the shadow of death.
23 Hän saattaa kansat suureksi, ja taas hukuttaa heidät; hän levittää kansan, ja taas vie pois heidät.
He increases the nations, and he destroys them. He enlarges the nations, and he leads them captive.
24 Hän ottaa pois maan kansan ruhtinasten sydämet, ja eksyttää heitä korvessa, jossa ei tietä ole.
He takes away understanding from the chiefs of the people of the earth, and causes them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way.
25 Ja he koperoitsevat pimeydessä ilman valkeutta; ja hän eksyttää heitä kuin juopuneita.
They grope in the dark without light. He makes them stagger like a drunken man.
