Jeremian 44

1 Tämä on se sana, joka Jeremialle tapahtui, kaikista Juudalaisista, jotka Egyptin maalla asuivat, jotka asuivat Migdolissa, Tahpanheksessa, Nophissa, Patroksen maalla, ja sanoi:

[This is] the message that Yahweh gave me concerning the Jews who were living in [northern] Egypt—in Migdol, Tahpenes, and Memphis [cities], and in the Pathros [region in southern Egypt]:

2 Näin sanoo Herra Zebaot, Israelin Jumala: te olette nähneet kaiken sen pahan, jonka minä olen antanut tulla Jerusalemin päälle, ja kaikkein Juudan kaupunkein päälle; ja katso, tänäpänä ovat ne hävitettynä, niin ettei kenkään niissä asu:

“This is what [I], the Commander of the armies of angels, the God whom [you] Israelis [say you belong to], say: ‘You saw the disaster that I caused [the people in] Jerusalem and the other towns in Judah to experience. Those towns are now ruined and deserted.

3 Heidän pahuutensa tähden, jonka he tekivät vihoittaen minua, ja menivät ja suitsuttivat ja palvelivat muita jumalia, joita ei he, eli te, eikä teidän isänne tunteneet.

[That happened] because I was extremely angry with them on account of their being very wicked. They burned incense to other gods and worshiped them. They were gods that you [previously] did not know about, and your ancestors also [did not know about them].

4 Ja minä lähetin varhain ja usein teidän tykönne kaikki palveliani prophetat, ja käskin teille sanoa: älkäät tehkö senkaltaisia kauhistuksia, joita minä vihaan;

Many times I sent my prophets who served me, to say to them, “Do not do those abominable things that I hate!”

5 Mutta ei he totelleet, eikä kallistaneet korviansa kääntymään pahuudestansa, ja ei suitsuttamaan muille jumalille.

But my people would not pay any attention [DOU] [to what I said to them]. They would not turn away from their wicked behavior, or stop burning incense to [worship/honor] other gods.

6 Sentähden syttyi myös minun vihani ja julmuuteni, ja paloi Juudan kaupunkein päällä, ja Jerusalemin katuin päällä, niin ne ovat kukistetuiksi ja autioiksi tulleet, niinkuin se tänäpänä löydetään.

So I poured out my anger [MTY] on them. I punished people on the streets of Jerusalem and on the [other] towns in Judah. It caused those towns to be ruined and deserted, and they are still like that.’

7 Nyt, näin sanoo Herra Jumala Zebaot, Israelin Jumala: miksi te teette tämän suuren pahan vastaan omaa henkeänne? että teidän seassanne pitää hävitettämän sekä mies että vaimo, sekä lapset että imeväiset Juudasta, ja ei pidä yhtään teistä jäämän,

So now [I], the Commander of the armies of angels, the God whom [you] Israelis [say you belong to], ask you: ‘Why are you causing yourselves to experience these disasters? [Do you not realize that because of what you are doing], soon there will be no more men or women or children or infants left among you [who have come here to Egypt] from Judah?

8 Että te niin vihoitatte minun kättenne töillä, ja suitsutatte muille jumalille Egyptin maalla, johon te olette menneet asumaan, että teidän pitää hävitetyksi, ja kiroukseksi ja häväistykseksi kaikkein pakanain seassa maan päällä tuleman.

Why are you [RHQ] provoking me and causing me to be very angry by burning incense to the idols that you have made here in Egypt? [If you continue doing this, ] you will destroy yourselves, and you will cause yourselves to be people whom all the nations on the earth will curse and despise.

9 Oletteko te unhottaneet isäinne onnettomuuden, Juudan kuningasten onnettomuuden, heidän emäntäinsä onnettomuuden, niin myös teidän oman onnettomuutenne, ja teidän emäntäinne onnettomuuden, joka teille on tapahtunut Juudan maalla ja Jerusalemin kaduilla?

Have you forgotten [how I punished] your ancestors for the wicked things that they did, and [how I punished] the kings and queens of Judah for what they did, and you and your wives for the sins that you committed in the streets of Jerusalem and [the other towns] in Judah?

10 Kuitenkin ei he vielä ole tähän päivään asti itsiänsä nöyryyttäneet, ja ei myös mitään pelkää; ja ei vaella minun laissani ja säädyissäni, jotka minä teidän eteenne ja teidän isäinne eteen pannut olen.

Up until this day you have not humbled yourselves or revered me. You have not obeyed the laws and decrees [DOU] that I gave to you and your ancestors.’

11 Sentähden sanoo Herra Zebaot, Israelin Jumala näin: katso, minä panen minun kasvoni teitä vastaan onnettomuudeksi, ja koko Juudan pitää hävitetyksi tuleman.

Therefore, this is what [I], the Commander of the armies of angels, the God whom [you] Israelis [say you belong to], say: ‘I am determined to cause all of you to experience disasters and to get rid of every one of you.

12 Ja minä otan jääneet Juudasta, jotka ovat kasvonsa tavoittaneet mennäksensä Egyptin maalle, asumaan siellä, ja he kaikki pitää lopetettaman, Egyptin maalla pitää heidän miekalla kaatuman ja nälällä hukkuman, sekä pienet että suuret; heidän pitää kuoleman miekalla ja nälällä, ja pitää tuleman sadatukseksi, ihmeeksi, kiroukseksi ja häväistykseksi.

[You] people from Judah who have survived were determined to come and live here in Egypt. So I will get rid of all of you here in Egypt. Every one of you will die, including those who are important and those who are not important. [Some of] you will be killed by [your enemies’] swords, [some will die] from famines. You will become [people whom others] curse, be horrified about, and make fun of.

13 Minä tahdon rangaista Egyptin maan asuvaisia miekalla, nälällä ja rutolla, niinkuin minä tein Jerusalemille;

I will punish you here in Egypt like I punished [others in] Jerusalem, [some of whom were killed] by [their enemies’] swords and [some of whom] died from famines or diseases.

14 Niin ettei Juudan jääneistä ketään pidä pääsemän eikä jäämän, jotka kuitenkin sitä varten tänne Egyptin maalle asumaan tulleet ovat, että he taas Juudan maalle palajaisivat, johonka he mielellänsä jälleen asumaan tulisivat; mutta ei heidän pidä sinne palajaman, paitsi niitä, jotka täältä pakenevat.

You people who did not die in Judah fled here to Egypt, hoping that [some day] you would return to Judah. But very few [HYP] of you will survive and escape. You are longing/wanting to remain alive and return to Judah, but only a very few of you will escape and be able to do that.’”

15 Niin kaikki ne miehet vastasivat Jeremiaa, jotka kyllä tiesivät, että heidän emäntänsä muille jumalille olivat suitsuttaneet, niin myös kaikki vaimot, joita siellä suuri joukko oli, ja kaikki kansa, jotka Egyptin maalla, Patroksessa asuivat, ja sanoivat:

Then a large group of the people who had started to live in northern Egypt and southern Egypt, including all the men who knew that their wives had been burning incense to other gods, and all the women who were standing there, said this to me:

16 Sen sanan jälkeen, jonka sinä meille Herran nimeen sanot, emme tahdo sinua suinkaan kuulla;

“You are saying that [MTY] Yahweh gave messages to you, but we will not pay any attention to your messages!

17 Vaan me tahdomme kaiketi tehdä kaiken sen sanan perään, joka meidän suustamme käy, ja tahdomme taivaan kuningattarelle suitsuttaa, ja hänelle juomauhria uhrata, niinkuin me ja meidän isämme, meidän kuninkaamme ja päämiehemmme tehneet ovat Juudan kaupungeissa ja Jerusalemin kaduilla. Silloin meillä oli leipää kyllä, ja me olimme autuaat, ja emme nähneet onnettomuutta.

We will certainly do everything that we said that we would do. We will burn incense to [worship our goddess Astarte, ] the Queen of Heaven, and we will pour out offerings [of wine] to her, just like we and our ancestors and our kings and [their] officials have [always] done in the streets of Jerusalem and in the [other] towns in Judah. At that time, we had plenty of food, and we were prosperous and we did not have any troubles.

18 Mutta sittekuin kuin me lakkasimme suitsuttamasta taivaan kuningattarelle, ja juomauhria hänelle uhraamasta, niin me kaikki köyhiksi tulimme ja olemme miekan ja nälän kautta hukkuneet.

But ever since we stopped burning incense to the Queen of Heaven and giving her offerings [of wine], we have had many troubles, and [some of our people] have been killed by [our enemies’] swords and [some have died] from hunger.”

19 Ja vaikka me taivaan haltiattarelle suitsuttaisimme ja juomauhria uhraisimme, niin emme sitä tee ilman meidän miestemme tahtoa, kuin me hänelle leipiä leivomme ja juomauhria uhraamme.

And [the women said], “[Furthermore], we burned incense and poured out [wine] offerings to the Queen of Heaven, and we also made small cakes that resembled her idol, to offer to her. But our husbands certainly knew about [and approved of] [RHQ] what we were doing!”

20 Silloin Jeremia sanoi kaikelle kansalle, sekä miehille että vaimoille, ja kaikelle kansalle, joka häntä niin vastannut oli sanoen:

Then I said to all the men and women who had answered me,

21 Sepä se on, että Herra on muistanut sen suitsuttamisen, jonka Juudan kaupungeissa ja Jerusalemin kaduilla tehneet olette, ynnä teidän isäinne, kuningastenne, päämiestenne ja kaiken maakunnan kansan kanssa, ja pani sen sydämeensä.

“Do not think [RHQ] that Yahweh did not know that you and your ancestors and your kings and their officials and all the other people in Judah were burning incense to [worship/honor] idols in the streets of Jerusalem and in the [other] towns in Judah!

22 Niin ettei Herra voinut teidän pahaa menoanne enään kärsiä ja niitä kauhistuksia, joita te teitte; joista myös teidän maanne on autioksi, ihmeeksi ja kiroukseksi tullut, niin ettei kenkään siinä asu, niinkuin tänäpänä nähtävä on.

It was because Yahweh could no longer endure/tolerate your wicked actions and the detestable things that you were doing that he caused your land to be [a place whose name people say when they] curse someone, a land that is ruined and which has no one living in it. And your land is still like that.

23 että te suitsutitte, ja Herraa vastaan syntiä teitte, ja ette totelleet Herran ääntä, ette myös hänen laissansa, säädyissänsä ja todistuksissansa vaeltaneet; sentähden myös tämä onnettomuus teille tapahtuu, niinkuin tänäpänä nähtävä on.

It is because you burned incense to [worship/honor] idols and committed [other] sins against Yahweh that you experienced [all] those disasters. It is because you have not obeyed him or his laws and decrees and commandments.”

24 Ja Jeremia sanoi kaikelle kansalle ja kaikille vaimoille: kuulkaat Herran sanaa kaikki, jotka Juudasta Egyptin maassa olette.

[Then] I said to all of them, including the women, “All you [people of] Judah who are [here] in Egypt, listen to this message from Yahweh.

25 Näin puhuu Herra Zebaot, Israelin Jumala, sanoen: te ja teidän vaimonne olette suullanne puhuneet ja käsillänne täyttäneet, mitä te sanoitte: meidän lupauksemme me kaiketi tahdomme pitää, jonka me taivaan kuningattarelle luvanneet olemme, että me hänelle pyhää savua suitsuttaisimme, ja juomauhria uhraisimme: te olette lupauksenne kyllä pitäneet, ja lupauksenne työllä täyttäneet.

This is what the Commander of the armies of angels, the God whom [we] Israelis [worship], says [to you Israeli men]: ‘You and your wives have said that you would continue to do what you promised, to burn incense and pour out wine to the [goddess whom you call] the Queen of Heaven. [And you have proved by your actions that you intend to continue to do that]. So go ahead and continue doing what you have promised to do [for her].’

26 Niin kuulkaat siis Herran sanaa, kaikki Juudasta, jotka Egyptin maalla asutte: katso, minä vannon suuren nimeni kautta, sanoo Herra: ettei minun nimeni pidä enään jonkun ihmisen suusta Juudasta koko Egyptin maassa nimitettämän, joka sanois: niin totta kuin Herra, Herra elää.

But now, all you people from Judah who are [now] living [here] in Egypt, listen to this message from Yahweh. He says, ‘I have solemnly declared, using my great name, that [soon] none of [you] people from Judah who are here in Egypt will ever again use my name. [There will be none of you who, when you solemnly promise to do something, ] will ever again say, “[I will do it as surely] as Yahweh lives.”

27 Katso, minä tahdon valvoa heitä vastaan heidän pahaksensa ja en heidän hyväksensä, niin että jokainen, joka Juudasta Egyptin maalla on, pitää miekalla ja nälällä hukkuman, siihenasti että he lopetetuksi tulevat.

Because I will be watching over you, not to cause good things to happen to you but to cause things to happen that will harm you. [Almost] everyone [HYP] from Judah who is [now here] in Egypt will experience being [killed by their enemies’] swords, or dying from famine.

28 Mutta jotka miekan välttävät, niiden pitää kuitenkin Egyptin maalta Juudan maahan vähässä joukossa palajaman. Ja niin pitää kaikki jääneet Juudasta, jotka Egyptin maahan asumaan menneet olivat, ymmärtämän, kummanko sanat todeksi joutuvat, minun vai heidän.

[Only a very] few [of you] will not die, and will return to Judah. [When that happens], all those who came to Egypt will find out whose words (were true/were fulfilled), theirs or mine.’

29 Ja tämä olkoon teille merkiksi, sanoo Herra: sillä minä tahdon teitä tässä paikassa rangaista, että tietäisitte minun sanani tulevan todeksi, teille onnettomuudeksi;

And Yahweh [also] says, ‘I will do something that will prove to you that everything that I have said will happen, and that I will punish you [here] in this place.

30 Näin sanoo Herra: katso, minä tahdon hyljätä Pharao Hophran, Egyptin kuninkaan, hänen vihollistensa käsiin ja niiden käsiin, jotka hänen henkeänsä väijyvät, niinkuin minä Zedekiankin, Juudan kuninkaan, hylkäsin Nebukadnetsarin, Babelin kuninkaan, hänen vihollistensa käteen, ja sen joka hänen henkeänsä väijyi.

I will cause Hophra, the king of Egypt, to be captured by his enemies who want to kill him, just like I caused King Zedekiah of Judah to be captured by [the soldiers of] King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon.’” [And that is what happened several years later].
