Jeremian 36
1 Neljäntenä Jojakimin Josian pojan, Juudan kuninkaan vuonna, tapahtui tämä sana Herralta Jeremialle, sanoen:
And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim, the son of Josiah, king of Judah, that this word came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying:
2 Ota kirja ja kirjoita siihen kaikki se puhe, jonka minä sinulle olen puhunut Israelista, Juudasta ja kaikesta kansasta, siitä ajasta kuin minä sinulle olen puhunut, Joosian ajasta, niin tähän päivään asti.
Take thee a book-roll, and write upon it all the words which I have spoken to thee concerning Israel, and concerning Judah, and concerning all the nations, from the day when I began to speak to thee even to this day.
3 Jos mitämaks Juudan huone, kuin he kuulevat kaiken sen onnettomuuden, joka minun mielessäni on heille tehdä, on itsensä kääntavä, jokainen pahasta menostansa, etä minä antasin anteeksi heidän pahat tekonsa ja rikoksensa.
It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do to them, and return every one from his evil way, so that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.
4 Silloin Jeremia kutsui Barukin, Nerijan pojan, ja Baruk kirjoitti kirjaan Jeremian suusta kaikki Herran sanat, jotka hän hänelle oli puhunut.
Then Jeremiah called Baruch, the son of Neriah; and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of Jehovah which he had spoken to him, upon a book-roll.
5 Ja Jeremia käski Barukia ja sanoi: minä olen vangittu, niin etten saa mennä Herran huoneeseen.
And Jeremiah commanded Baruch and said: I am shut up; I cannot go into the house of Jehovah;
6 Mutta mene sinä sinne ja lue kirja, johon sinä Herran sanat minun suustani kirjoittanut olet, kansan korvain edessä Herran huoneessa, paastopäivänä; ja sinun pitä myös ne lukeman koko Juudan korvain edessä, jotka heidän kaupungeistansa tulleet ovat.
therefore, go thou, and read in the roll which thou hast written from my mouth the words of Jehovah, in the ears of the people, in the house of Jehovah, upon the fast-day; also in the ears of all Judah, that come out of their cities, shalt thou read them.
7 Jos he mitämaks nöyryyttävät itsensä rukouksella Herran edessä, ja kääntyvät jokainen pahasta menostansa; sillä viha ja julmuus on suuri, jonka Herra on tätä kansaa vastaan puhunut.
It may be that they will prostrate themselves in supplication before Jehovah, and will return every one from his evil way. For great is the anger and the indignation which Jehovah hath denounced against this people.
8 Ja Baruk Nerijan poika teki kaikki, mitä propheta Jeremia oli hänelle käskenyt, ja luki ja luki kirjasta Herran sanat kirjasta Herran huoneessa.
And Baruch, the son of Neriah, did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of Jehovah in the house of Jehovah.

And it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim, the son of Josiah, king of Judah, in the ninth month, that all the people in Jerusalem, and all the people that came out of the cities of Judah, proclaimed a fast before Jehovah, in Jerusalem.
10 Ja Baruk luki kirjasta Jeremian sanat Herran huoneessa, Gemarian, Saphanin pojan kirjoittajan kammiossa, ylemmäisessä pihassa, Herran huoneen uuden ovein edessä, kaiken kansan kuullen.
Then read Baruch in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of Jehovah, in the chamber of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan the scribe, in the higher court, at the entrance of the new gate of the house of Jehovah, in the ears of all the people.
11 Kuin Mikaja Gemarian poika, Saphanin pojan, kaikki Herran sanat kirjasta oli kuullut,
And when Micah, the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard from the book all the words of Jehovah,
12 Meni hän alas kuninkaan huoneeseen, kirjoittajan kammioon, ja katso, siellä istuivat kaikki pääruhtinaat, Elisama kirjoittaja, Delaja Semajan poika, Elnatan Akborin poika, Gemaria Saphanin poika, ja Zedekia Hannian poika, ja päämiehet kaikki.
he went down to the king's house, into the scribe's chamber; and lo, all the princes were sitting there, Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah, the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan, the son of Achbor, and Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah, the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.
13 Ja Mikaja sanoi heille kaikki ne sanat, jotka hän oli kuullut, kuin Baruki luki kirjasta kansan korvain edessä.
Then Micah declared to them all the words which he had heard when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people.
14 Silloin lähettivät kaikki pääruhtinaat Juudin Netanian pojan, Selemian pojan, Kusin pojan, Barukin perään, ja käskivät hänelle sanoa: ota myötäs kirja, josta sinä kansan edessä luit, ja tule tänne. Ja Baruk, Nerijan poika otti kirjan myötänsä ja tuli heidän tykönsä.
Then all the princes sent Jehudi, the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, to Baruch, and said, “Take in thy hand the roll wherein thou hast read in the ears of the people, and come.” So Baruch, the son of Neriah, took the roll in his hand, and came to them.
15 Ja he sanoivat hänelle: istu nyt ja lue, että me saisimme kuulla; ja Baruk luki heidän korvainsa kuullen.
And they said to him, “Sit down now, and read it in our ears.” And Baruch read it in their ears.
16 Ja kuin he kaikki sanat olivat kuulleet, peljästyivät he toinen toisensa kanssa, ja sanoivat Barukille: me tahdomme kaiketi ilmoittaa kuninkaalle kaikki nämät sanat.
And when they had heard all the words, they looked with consternation upon one another, and they said to Baruch, “We must tell the king of all these things.”
17 Ja he kysyivät Barukilta, sanoen: sanos meille, kuinka sinä olet kaikki nämät sanat kirjoittanut hänen suustansa?
And they asked Baruch, saying, “Tell us now, how didst thou write all these words from his mouth?”
18 Baruk sanoi heille: hän luki minun edessäni kaikki nämät sanat suullansa, ja minä kirjoitin ne pläkillä kirjaan.
And Baruch said to them, “With his mouth he pronounced to me all these words, and I wrote them on the book with ink.”
19 Silloin sanoivat pääruhtinaat Barukille: mene ja lymytä itses Jeremian kanssa, niin ettei kenkään tiedä, kussa te olette.
Then said the princes to Baruch, “Go, hide thee, thou and Jeremiah, and let no man know where ye are.”
20 Ja menivät kuninkaan eteen esihuoneesen, ja antoivat kirjan jäädä kirjoittajan Elisaman makaushuoneesen, ja sanoivat kuninkaan edessä kaikki nämät sanat.
And they went in to the king into the court; but they laid up the roll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and they told all these things in the ears of the king.
21 Niin kuningas lähetti Juudin kirjaa noutamaan, ja hän otti sen Elisaman kirjoittajakammiosta; ja Juudi luki sen kuninkaan edessä ja kaikkein pääruhtinasten, jotka seisoivat kuninkaan edessä.
Then the king sent Jehudi to fetch the roll, and he took it out of the chamber of Elishama the scribe; and Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes who stood beside the king.
22 Mutta kuningas istui talvihuoneessa yhdeksäntenä kuukautena, ja tuli paloi totossa hänen edessänsä.
And the king was sitting in the winter-house, in the ninth month, and a brasier was burning before him.
23 Kuin Juudi kolme eli neljä kappaletta oli lukenut, leikkasi hän sen rikki kynäveitsellä ja heitti tuleen, joka totossa oli, siihenasti että kirja peräti paloi tulessa, joka totossa oli.
And when Jehudi had read three or four sections, he [[the king]] cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire, into the brasier, until the whole roll was consumed in the fire in the brasier.
24 Ja ei kenkään peljästynyt eikä vaatteitansa reväissyt rikki, ei kuningas eikä hänen palveliansa, jotka kuitenkin kaikki nämät sanat olivat kuulleet.
And they were not afraid, and rent not their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants, who heard all these words;
25 Vaikka Elnatan, Delaja ja Gemaria rukoilivat kuningasta, ettei hän olisi polttanut kirjaa; ei hän kuitenkaan heitä totellut.
and although Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah interceded with the king not to burn the roll, yet he would not hearken to them.
26 Päälliseksi käski kuningas Jerahmeelin Hammelekin pojan, Serajan Asrielin pojan, ja Selamian Abdeelin pojan, käsittämään Barukia kirjoittajaa ja Jeremiaa prophetaa; mutta Herra oli heidät kätkenyt.
And the king commanded Jerahmeel, the son of Hammelech, and Seraiah, the son of Azreel, and Shelemiah, the son of Abdeel, to seize Baruch the scribe, and Jeremiah the prophet; but Jehovah had hid them.
27 Silloin tapahtui Herran sana Jeremialle, sittekuin kuningas oli polttanut kirjan ja ne sanat, jotka Baruk Jeremian suusta oli kirjoittanut, ja sanoi:
Then came the word of Jehovah to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch had written from the mouth of Jeremiah, saying:
28 Ota sinulles taas toinen kirja ja kirjoita siihen kaikki entiset sanat, jotka ensimäisessäkin kirjassa olivat, jonka Jojakim, Juudan kuningas, on polttanut.
Take thee another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim, king of Judah, hath burned.
29 Ja sano Jojakimille, Juudan kuninkaalle: näin sanoo Herra: sinä olet polttanut sen kirjan ja sanonut; miksi sinä siihen olet kirjoittanut ja sanonut, että Babelin kuningas on kaiketi tuleva ja hävittävä tämän maan, ja tekevä niin, ettei ihmistä eikä karjaa enään siinä pidä oleman?
And concerning Jehoiakim, king of Judah, thou shalt say, Thou hast burned this roll, saying, “Why hast thou written therein and said, The king of Babylon shall surely come and shall destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from it man and beast?”
30 Sentähden sanoo Herra Jojakimista, Juudan kuninkaasta, ei pidä yhtään hänen siemenestänsä istuman Davidin istuimella, ja hänen ruumiinsa pitää heitettämän ulos, makaamaan helteessä päivällä ja vilussa yöllä.
Therefore thus saith Jehovah concerning Jehoiakim, king of Judah: He shall have not one to sit upon the throne of David; and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost.
31 Ja minä tahdon rangaista häntä ja hänen siementänsä, ja hänen palvelioitansa heidän pahain tekoinsa tähden: ja minä annan tulla heidän päällensä, ja Jerusalemin asuvaisten päälle, ja Juudan miesten päälle, kaiken onnettomuuden, jonka minä heille olen puhunut; ja ei he kuitenkaan tahtoneet kuulla.
And I will punish him, and his offspring, and his servants, for their iniquity; and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Judah, all the evil which I have pronounced against them, and they have not hearkened.
32 Niin Jeremia otti toisen kirjan ja antoi Barukille Nerijan pojalle, kirjoittajalle. Ja hän kirjoitti siihen Jeremian suusta kaikki ne sanat, jotka entisessäkin kirjassa olivat, jonka Jojakim, Juudan kuningas, oli tulessa polttanut; ja siihen oli vielä paljon enempi senkaltaisia sanoja lisätty.
Then Jeremiah took another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah, who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim had burned in the fire; and there were added to them many words of the same kind.
