2 Mooseksen 17
1 Ja koko Israelin lasten joukko matkusti Sinnin korvesta, vaelluksissansa Herran käskyn jälkeen, ja sioittivat itsensä Raphidimiin, ja ei ollut vettä kansalle juoda.
All the congregation of the children of Israel [God prevails] traveled from the wilderness of Cin [Clay], by their journeys, according to Adonai’s order, and encamped in Rephidim; but there was no water for the people to drink.
2 Ja kansa riiteli Moseksen kanssa, ja sanoi: antakaat meille vettä juodaksemme. Moses sanoi heille: mitä te riitelette minun kanssani? Miksi kiusaatte Herraa?
Therefore the people quarreled with Moses [Drawn out], and said, “Give us water to drink.” Moses [Drawn out] said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test Adonai?”
3 Ja kansa janosi juoda siellä vettä, ja he napisivat Mosesta vastaan, ja sanoivat: mitä vasten sinä olet meidät johdattanut Egyptistä tänne kuolettaakses minua ja minun lapsiani, ja minun eläimiäni janolla?
The people were thirsty for water there; and the people murmured against Moses [Drawn out], and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt [Abode of slavery], to kill us, our children, and our livestock with thirst?”
4 Niin Moses huusi Herran tykö, sanoen: mitä minä teen tälle kansalle? Vähä puuttuu, ettei he kivitä minua.
Moses [Drawn out] cried to Adonai, saying, “What shall I do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me.”
5 Ja Herra sanoi Mosekselle: mene kansan edellä, ja ota kanssas muutamia Israelin vanhimmista, ja sinun sauvas, jolla sinä löit virtaa, ota sinun kätees ja mene.
Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “Walk on before the people, and take the elders of Israel [God prevails] with you, and take the rod in your hand with which you struck the Nile, and go.
6 Katso, minä seison siellä sinun edessäs kalliolla Horebissa: ja sinun pitää lyömän kalliota, ja siinä pitää vedet juokseman, niin että kansa siitä juoda saa. Ja Moses teki niin Israelin vanhimpain edessä.
Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb [Desert]. You shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.” Moses [Drawn out] did so in the sight of the elders of Israel [God prevails].
7 Ja kutsui sen paikan nimen Massa ja Meriba, Israelin lasten riidan tähden, ja että he kiusasivat Herraa, sanoen: olleeko Herra meidän seassamme elikkä ei?
He called the name of the place Massah [Testing], and Meribah [Quarreling], because the children of Israel [God prevails] quarreled, and because they tested Adonai, saying, “Is Adonai among us, or not?”
8 Niin Amalek tuli: ja soti Israelia vastaan Raphidimissa.
Then Amalek [Man who licks up] came and fought with Israel [God prevails] in Rephidim.
9 Ja Moses sanoi Josualle: valitse meille miehiä, mene ja sodi Amalekia vastaan: huomenna minä seison mäen kukkulalla, ja pidän Jumalan sauvan kädessäni.
Moses [Drawn out] said to Joshua [Yah Salvation], “Choose men for us, and go out, fight with Amalek [Man who licks up]. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with God’s rod in my hand.”
10 Ja Josua teki niinkuin Moses sanoi hänelle, ja soti Amalekia vastaan. Mutta Moses, Aaron ja Hur astuivat mäen kukkulalle.
So Joshua [Yah Salvation] did as Moses [Drawn out] had told him, and fought with Amalek [Man who licks up]; and Moses [Drawn out], Aaron [Light-bringer], and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
11 Ja tapahtui, että koska Moses piti kätensä ylhäällä, voitti Israel; mutta koska hän kätensä laski alas, voitti Amalek.
When Moses [Drawn out] held up his hand, Israel [God prevails] prevailed. When he let down his hand, Amalek [Man who licks up] prevailed.
12 Mutta Moseksen kädet olivat raskaat, sentähden ottivat he kiven ja asettivat hänen alansa ja hän istui sen päällä; vaan Aaron ja Hur pitivät ylhäällä hänen käsiinsä kumpikin puoleltansa, niin pysyi hänen kätensä juuri vahvana auringon laskemaan asti.
But Moses [Drawn out]’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat on it. Aaron [Light-bringer] and Hur held up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side. His hands were steady until sunset.
13 Ja Josua heikonsi Amalekin ja hänen kansansa miekan terällä.
Joshua [Yah Salvation] defeated Amalek [Man who licks up] and his people with the edge of the sword.
14 Ja Herra sanoi Mosekselle: kirjoita tämä muistoksi kirjaan, ja muistuta Josuan korvissa; sillä minä pyyhin kokonansa pois Amalekin muiston taivaan alta.
Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua [Yah Salvation]: that I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek [Man who licks up] from under the sky.”
15 Ja Moses rakensi alttarin, ja kutsui sen nimen: Herra on minun lippuni.
Moses [Drawn out] built an altar, and called its name Adonai our Banner.
16 Ja hän sanoi: koska käsi oli Herran istuinta päin, oli Herralla sota Amalekia vastaan: (niin se on tästäkin lähin) suvusta sukuun.
He said, “Yah has sworn: ‘Adonai will have war with Amalek [Man who licks up] from generation to generation.’”
