1 Ja sinä yönä ei saanut kuningas unta, ja hän käski tuotaa aika- ja muistokirjat, ja ne luettiin kuninkaan edessä.
In that night sleep fled from the king, and he ordered to bring in the book of the memorable events of the chronicles; and they were read before the king.
2 Niin löydettiin kirjoitettuna, kuinka Mordekai oli tietää antanut, että kaksi kuninkaan kamaripalveliaa, Bigtana ja Teres, ovenvartiat, olivat aikoneet heittää kätensä kuningas Ahasveruksen päälle,
And it was found written, that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Theresh, two chamberlains of the king, of those who kept the door, who had sought to lay [their] hand on king Achashverosh.
3 Ja kuningas sanoi: mitä kunniaa eli hyvää me olemme Mordekaille sen edestä tehneet? Niin sanoivat kuninkaan palveliat, jotka häntä palvelivat: ei ole hänelle mitään tapahtunut.
And the king said, What honor and distinction have been done to Mordecai for this? Then said the king's young men, his servants, There hath nothing been done with him.
4 Ja kuningas sanoi: kuka kartanolla on? ja Haman käveli ulkona kartanolla kuninkaan huoneen edessä, sanoaksensa kuninkaalle, että Mordekai piti hirtettämän siihen puuhun, jonka hän oli häntä varten valmistanut.
And the king said, Who is in the court? Now Haman was come into the outer court of the king's house, to say unto the king to hang Mordecai on the gallows which he had prepared for him.
5 Ja kuninkaan palveliat sanoivat hänelle: katso, Haman seisoo pihalla. Kuningas sanoi: tulkaan sisälle.
And the king's young men said unto him, Behold, Haman is standing in the court. And the king said, Let him come in.
6 Ja kuin Haman tuli, sanoi kuningas hänelle: mitä sille miehelle pitää tehtämän, jota kuningas tahtoo kunnioittaa? Ja Haman ajatteli sydämessänsä: ketäpä kuningas paremmin tahtoo kunnioittaa kuin minua?
So Haman came in; and the king said unto him, What shall be done with the man whom the king desireth to honor? And Haman said in his heart, To whom would the king desire to do honor more than to myself?
7 Ja Haman sanoi kuninkaalle: se mies, jota kuningas tahtoo kunnioittaa,
Haman therefore said to the king, [For] the man whom the king desireth to honor,
8 Pitää puetettaman kuninkaallisilla vaatteilla, joita kuningas itse pitää, ja tuotaman se hevonen, jolla kuningas ajaa, ja että kuninkaallinen kruunu pantaisiin hänen päähänsä.
Let them bring a royal apparel which the king hath worn, and a horse on which the king hath ridden, and let there be placed a royal crown on his head.
9 Ja vaatteet ja hevonen pitää annettaman yhden kuninkaan päämiehen käteen, joka on ylimmäisistä päämiehistä, että hän puettais sen miehen, jota kuningas tahtoo kunnioittaa, ja antais hänen ajaa hevosen selässä kaupungin kaduilla, ja huutaa hänen edellänsä: näin pitää sille miehelle tehtämän, jota kuningas tahtoo kunnioittaa.
And let the apparel and the horse be given into the hand of one of the king's princes, of the most noble, that they may array the man whom the king desireth to honor, and let them cause him to ride on the horse through the streets of the city, and proclaim before him, Thus shall be done to the man whom the king desireth to honor.
10 Kuningas sanoi Hamanille: kiiruhda, ota vaatteet ja hevonen, niinkuin sinä olet sanonut, ja tee niin Mordekain Juudalaisen kanssa, joka istuu kuninkaan portissa; ja älä anna mitään puuttua kaikista näistä, mitä sinä puhunut olet.
Then said the king to Haman, Make haste, take the apparel and the horse, as thou hast spoken, and do thus to Mordecai the Jew, that sitteth at the king's gate: leave out nothing of all that thou hast spoken.
11 Niin Haman otti vaatteet ja hevosen ja puetti Mordekain, ja antoi hänen ajaa kaupungin kaduilla, ja huusi hänen edellänsä: näin sille miehelle tehdään, jota kuningas tahtoo kunnioittaa.
And Haman then took the apparel and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and caused him to ride through the streets of the city, and proclaimed before him, Thus shall be done unto the man whom the king desireth to honor.
12 Ja Mordekai palasi kuninkaan porttiin; mutta Haman meni kiiruusti kotiansa, murehtien ja peitetyllä päällä.
And Mordecai thereupon returned to the king's gate; but Haman hastened to his house, mourning, and having his head covered.
13 Ja Haman jutteli emännällensä Serekselle ja kaikille ystävillensä kaikki, mitä hänelle tapahtunut oli. Niin sanoivat hänen viisaansa ja hänen emäntänsä Seres hänelle: Jos Mordekai on Juudalaisten siemenestä, jonka edessä sinä olet ruvennut lankeemaan, niin et sinä voi mitään häntä vastaan, vaan sinun täytyy peräti hänen edessänsä langeta.
And Haman related to Zeresh his wife and to all his friends all that had befallen him: then said unto him his wise men and Zeresh his wife, If Mordecai, before whom thou hast begun to fall, be of the seed of the Jews, thou wilt not prevail against him, but thou wilt surely fall before him.
14 Kuin he vielä parhaallaansa hänen kanssansa puhuivat, tulivat kuninkaan kamaripalveliat ja kiiruhtivat Hamania pitoihin, jotka Ester oli valmistanut.
They were yet speaking with him, when the king's chamberlains arrived, and they hastened to bring Haman unto the banquet which Esther had prepared.
