5 Mooseksen 8
1 Kaikki käskyt, jotka minä käsken sinulle tänäpänä, pitäkäät ja tehkäät, että eläisitte ja lisääntyisitte, tulisitte ja omistaisitte maan, josta Herra vannoi teidän isillenne.
All the commandment which I am commanding thee to-day, shalt thou, observe, to do, —that ye may, live, and multiply, and enter in and possess the land, which Yahweh sware unto your fathers.
2 Ja muista kaikkea sitä matkaa, jonka kautta Herra sinun Jumalas johdatti sinun näinä neljänäkymmenenä vuotena korvessa, vaivataksensa sinua ja koetellaksensa sinua, tietääksensä mitä sinun sydämessäs oli, pitäisitkö hänen käskynsä, vai etkö.
So then, thou shalt remember all the way in which Yahweh thy God caused thee to journey these forty years in the desert, —that he might humble thee to put thee to the proof to know what was in thy heart, —whether thou wouldest keep his commandments or not.
3 Ja hän vaivasi sinua ja antoi sinun isota, ja ravitsi sinun mannalla, jota et sinä eikä sinun isäs tunteneet, antaaksensa sinun tietää, ettei ihminen elä ainoastansa leivästä; vaan kaikesta mikä Herran suusta lähtee, elää ihminen.
So he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna which thou hadst not known, neither had thy fathers known, —that he might lead thee to consider that not on bread alone, shall the son of earth live, but on whatsoever cometh from the bidding of Yahweh, shall the son of earth live.
4 Ei sinun vaattees vanhuudesta kuluneet yltäs ja sinun jalkas ei kuulettuneet, näinä neljänäkymmenenä vuotena.
Thy mantle, hath not fallen with age from off thee, and, thy foot, hath not become swollen, —these forty years.
5 Niin tiedä sydämessäs, että Herra sinun Jumalas on kurittanut sinua, niinkuin mies kurittaa poikaansa.
Thou must consider, then with thy heart, —that as a man chasteneth his son, Yahweh thy God, hath been chastening thee.
6 Ja pidä Herran sinun Jumalas käskyt vaeltaakses hänen tiellänsä ja peljätäkses häntä.
Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments of Yahweh thy God, —to walk in his ways and to revere him.
7 Sillä Herra sinun Jumalas vie sinun hyvälle maalle: sille maalle, jossa vesiojat, lähteet ja järvet ovat, jotka laaksoihin ja vuorten sivuille vuotavat,
For, Yahweh thy God, is bringing thee into a good land; a land of ravines of water, of fountains and depths, coming forth in valley, and in mountain:
8 Maalle, jossa nisu, ohra, viinapuut, fikunapuut ja granatin omenat ovat; maalle, jossa on öljypuita ja hunajaa;
a land of wheat and barley, and vine and fig-tree, and pomegranate, —a land of olive oil, and honey:
9 Maalle, jossa ei sinun pidä vajavaisuudessa syömän leipää jossa ei mitään puutu; maalle, jonka kivet ovat rautaa, jossa sinä myös vasken vuorista lohkaiset.
a land wherein not in scarcity, shalt thou eat food, thou shalt lack nothing therein, —a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills thou mayest hew copper.
10 Ja koska sinä syönyt ja ravittu olet, ettäs silloin kiität Herraa sinun Jumalaas hyvän maan edestä, jonka hän antoi sinulle,
So then thou shalt eat and be satisfied, —and bless Yahweh thy God, for the good land which he hath given unto thee.
11 Niin ota siis vaari, ettet unhota Herraa sinun Jumalaas siinä, ettet sinä pidä hänen käskyjänsä, oikeuksiansa ja säätyjänsä, jotka minä tänäpänä sinulle käsken.
Take heed to thyself, lest thou forget Yahweh thy God, —so as not to keep his commandments and his regulations and his statutes, which I am commanding thee to-day;
12 Koskas syönyt ja ravittu olet, ja rakennat kauniit huoneet ja asut niissä,
lest thou eat, and be satisfied, —and goodly houses, thou build and inhabit;
13 Ja sinun karjas ja lampaas, hopias ja kultas, ja kaikki mitä sinulla on, lisääntyvät,
and thy herd and thy flock, increase, and silver and gold, increase unto thee, —and all that thou hast, increase;
14 Ettei sinun sydämes silloin tulisi ylpiäksi, ja unhottaisit Herran sinun Jumalas, joka sinun johdatti Egyptin maalta, orjuuden huoneesta,
and so thy heart be lifted up, —and thou forget Yahweh thy God, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt out of the house of servants;
15 Ja on sinun johdattanut suuren ja hirmuisen korven lävitse, jossa tuliset kärmeet, ja skorpionit, ja kuivuus oli, ja ei ensinkään vettä ollut, ja hän antoi veden vuotaa sinulle kovasta kalliosta.
who caused thee to journey through the great and terrible desert, of fiery serpents and scorpions, and thirsty wastes where was no water, —who brought forth for thee water out of the flinty rock;
16 Ja ravitsi sinun mannalla korvessa, josta ei sinun isäs tietäneet, vaivataksensa ja koetellaksensa sinua, ja viimeiseltä hyvää tehdäksensä sinulle.
who fed thee with manna in the desert, which thy fathers had not known, —that he might humble thee, and that he might put thee to the proof, to do thee good in thy hereafter,
17 Muutoin sinä sanoisit sydämessäs: minun voimani ja käteni väkevyys on minulle näin voimalliset työt tehnyt.
and lest thou shouldest say in thy heart, —Mine own strength and the might of mine own hand, have gotten me this wealth.
18 Vaan muista Herraa Jumalaas; sillä hän on se, joka sinulle voiman antaa, tekemään senkaltaisia voimallisia tekoja, että hän vahvistais liittonsa, jonka hän vannoi sinun isilles, niinkuin se tänäkin päivänä tapahtuu.
But thou shalt remember Yahweh thy God, that it was, he, who had been giving thee strength to get wealth, —that so he might establish his covenant which he sware to thy fathers (as at this day).
19 Mutta jos sinä niin unhotat Herran sinun Jumalas, ja noudatat muita jumalia, palvelet ja kumarrat niitä, niin minä tänäpänä todistan teille, että teidän pitää peräti hukkuman.
But it shall be if thou forget, Yahweh thy God, and go after ether gods, and serve them, and bow thyself down to them, I testify against you to-day, that ye shall perish:
20 Juuri niinkuin pakanat, jotka Herra hukuttaa teidän edestänne, niin teidän pitää hukkuman, ettette ole Herran teidän Jumalanne äänelle kuuliaiset.
like the nations which, Yahweh, is causing to perish from before you, so, shall ye perish, because ye would not hearken unto the voice of Yahweh your God.
