1 Mutta Antiokian seurakunnassa oli muutamia prophetaita ja opettajia, Barnabas ja Simeon, joka Nigeriksi kutsuttiin, ja Lukius Kyreniläinen, ja Manahen, joka Herodes tetrarkan kanssa kasvatettu oli, ja Saulus.

And there were certain in Antioch, in the assembly there, prophets and teachers: both Barnabas, and Simeon who is called Niger, and Lucius the Cyrenian, Manaen also—Herod the tetrarch’s foster-brother—and Saul;

2 Kuin siis nämät Herraa palvelivat ja paastosivat, sanoi Pyhä Henki: eroittakaat minulle Barnabas ja Saulus siihen työhön, johon minä heidät olen kutsunut.

and in their ministering to the LORD and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Separate to Me both Barnabas and Saul to the work to which I have called them,”

3 Ja kuin he olivat paastonneet ja rukoilleet, ja kätensä heidän päällensä panneet, päästivät he heidät menemään.

then having fasted, and having prayed, and having laid the hands on them, they sent [them] away.

4 Ja kuin he Pyhältä Hengeltä lähetetyt olivat, menivät he Seleukiaan ja purjehtivat sieltä Kypriin.

These, indeed, then, having been sent forth by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus,

5 Ja kuin he Salaminassa olivat, ilmoittivat he Jumalan sanan Juudalaisten synagogissa; ja heillä oli myös Johannes palveliana.

and having come to Salamis, they declared the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews, and they also had John [as] a servant;

and having gone through the island to Paphos, they found a certain magus, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name [is] Bar-Jesus;

who was with the proconsul Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man; this one having called for Barnabas and Saul, desired to hear the word of God,

8 Mutta heitä vastaan seisoi Elimas velho (sillä niin tulkitaan hänen nimensä) ja pyysi kääntää maaherraa pois uskosta.

and there withstood them Elymas the magus—for so is his name interpreted—seeking to pervert the proconsul from the faith.

9 Mutta Saulus (joka myös Paavaliksi kutsutaan, ) oli täynnä Pyhää Henkeä, katsoi hänen päällensä,

And Saul—who also [is] Paul—having been filled with the Holy Spirit, and having looked steadfastly on him,

10 Ja sanoi: voi sinä perkeleen poika, täynnä kaikkea vilppiä ja petosta, ja kaiken vanhurskauden vihamies, et sinä lakkaa vääntelemästä Herran oikeita teitä.

said, “O full of all guile, and all recklessness, son of a devil, enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the right ways of the LORD?

11 Ja nyt katso, Herran käsi on sinun päälläs; ja sinun pitää sokiana oleman eikä näkemän aurinkoa hetkessä aikaa. Ja hänen päällensä lankesi kohta synkeys ja pimeys, ja hän kävi ympäri, etsein kuka häntä kädestä taluttais.

And now, behold, a hand of the LORD [is] on you, and you will be blind, not seeing the sun for a season”; and instantly there fell on him a mist and darkness, and he, going around, was seeking some to lead [him] by the hand;

12 Kuin maaherra näki, mitä tapahtui, uskoi hän ja ihmetteli Herran opetusta.

then the proconsul having seen what has come to pass, believed, being astonished at the teaching of the LORD.

13 Mutta kuin Paavali ja ne, jotka hänen kanssansa olivat, Paphosta purjehtivat, tulivat he Pamphilian Pergeen; mutta Johannes erkani heistä ja palasi Jerusalemiin.

And those around Paul having set sail from Paphos, came to Perga of Pamphylia, and John having departed from them, turned back to Jerusalem,

14 Mutta he vaelsivat Pergestä ja tulivat Pisidian Antiokiaan, ja menivät sabbatina synagogaan, ja istuivat.

and they having gone through from Perga, came to Antioch of Pisidia, and having gone into the synagogue on the day of the Sabbaths, they sat down,

15 Ja sitte kuin laki ja prophetat olivat luetut, lähettivät synagogan päämiehet heidän tykönsä, sanoen: miehet, rakkaat veljet, onko teillä mitään kansaa neuvomista, niin sanokaat.

and after the reading of the Law and of the Prophets, the chief men of the synagogue sent to them, saying, “Men, brothers, if there be a word in you of exhortation to the people—say on.”

16 Niin Paavali nousi ja viittasi kädellänsä heitä vaikenemaan, ja sanoi: Israelin miehet, ja jotka Jumalaa pelkäätte, kuulkaat.

And Paul having risen, and having beckoned with the hand, said, “Men, Israelites, and those fearing God, listen:

17 Tämän kansan, Israelin, Jumala valitsi meidän isämme, ja korotti tämän kansan, muukalaisena ollessa Egyptin maalla, ja toi heidät sieltä ulos korkialla käsivarrella,

the God of this people Israel chose our fathers, and He exalted the people in their sojourning in the land of Egypt, and He brought them out of it with a high arm;

18 Ja kärsi heidän tapojansa korvessa lähes neljäkymmentä ajastaikaa.

and about a period of forty years He endured their conduct in the wilderness,

19 Ja perätti kadotti Kanaanin maalla seitsemän kansaa, ja arvalla jakoi heille niiden maan.

and having destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, He divided their land to them by lot.

20 Ja sitte lähes neljäsataa ja viisikymmentä ajastaikaa antoi hän heille tuomarit, Samuel prophetaan asti.

And after these things, about four hundred and fifty years, He gave judges—until Samuel the prophet;

21 Ja he pyysivät sitte kuningasta, ja Jumala antoi heille Saulin, Kisin pojan, miehen Benjaminin suvusta, neljäksikymmeneksi vuodeksi.

and thereafter they asked for a king, and God gave to them Saul, son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years;

22 Ja kuin hän oli sen pannut pois, herätti hän Davidin heidän kuninkaaksensa, josta hän myös todisti ja sanoi: minä löysin Davidin, Jessen pojan, miehen minun sydämeni jälkeen, joka on kaikki minun tahtoni tekevä.

and having removed him, He raised up to them David for king, to whom also having testified, He said, I found David, the [son] of Jesse, a man according to My heart, who will do all My will.

23 Tämän siemenestä on Jumala lupauksensa perään herättänyt Jesuksen Israelille Vapahtajaksi,

Of this one’s seed, God, according to promise, raised to Israel a Savior—Jesus,

24 Niinkuin Johannes saarnasi hänen tulemisensa edellä kaikelle Israelin kansalle parannuksen kastetta.

John having first preached, before His coming, an immersion of conversion to all the people of Israel;

25 Mutta kuin Johannes juoksun täyttänyt oli, sanoi hän: kenenkä te luulette minun olevan? En minä se ole, mutta katso, hän tulee minun jälkeeni, jonka kenkiä en minä ole kelvollinen jaloista riisumaan.

and as John was fulfilling the course, he said, Whom do you suppose I am? I am not [He], but behold, He comes after me, of whom I am not worthy to loose the sandal of [His] feet.

26 Miehet, rakkaat veljet, Abrahamin suvun lapset, ja jotka teissä ovat Jumalaa pelkääväiset, teille on tämän autuuden sana lähetetty.

Men, brothers, sons of the race of Abraham, and those among you fearing God, to you was the word of this salvation sent,

27 Sillä Jerusalemin asuvaiset ja heidän ylimmäisensä, ettei he tätä tunteneet, ovat he myös prophetain äänet, joita kunakin sabbatina luetaan, tuomitessansa täyttäneet.

for those dwelling in Jerusalem, and their chiefs, having not known this One, also the voices of the Prophets, which are being read every Sabbath—having judged [Him]—fulfilled,

28 Ja vaikka ei he yhtään kuoleman syytä löytäneet, anoivat he kuitenkin Pilatukselta, että hän piti tapettaman.

and having found no cause of death, they asked of Pilate that He should be slain,

29 Ja kuin he kaikki olivat täyttäneet, mitä hänestä kirjoitettu oli, ottivat he hänen puun päältä ja panivat hautaan.

and when they fulfilled all the things written about Him, having taken [Him] down from the tree, they laid Him in a tomb;

30 Mutta Jumala herätti hänen kuolleista.

and God raised Him out of the dead,

31 Ja hän on monta päivää niiltä nähty, jotka hänen kanssansa Galileasta Jerusalemiin olivat menneet ylös, jotka ovat hänen todistajansa kansan edessä.

and He was seen for many days of those who came up with Him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are His witnesses to the people.

32 Ja me ilmoitamme myös teille sen lupauksen, joka isille luvattiin, että Jumala on sen meille heidän lapsillensa täyttänyt, herättäin Jesuksen.

And we proclaim good news to you—that the promise made to the fathers,

33 Niinkuin toisessa psalmissa kirjoitettu on: sinä olet minun Poikani, tänäpänä minä sinun synnytin.

God has completed this in full to us their children, having raised up Jesus, as also in the second Psalm it has been written: You are My Son—I have begotten You today.

34 Mutta siitä, että hän hänen kuolleista herätti, eikä silleen tule turmelukseen, sanoi hän näin: minä tahdon teille antaa ne lujat Davidin armot.

And that He raised Him up out of the dead, to no longer return to corruption, He has said this: I will give to You the holy [blessings] of David [that are] faithful;

35 Sentähden hän myös sanoo toisessa paikassa: et sinä salli sinun Pyhäs turmelusta näkevän.

for what reason He also says in another [place]: You will not give Your Holy One to see corruption;

36 Sillä David, kuin hän ajallansa oli Jumalan tahtoa palvellut, nukkui, ja pantiin isäinsä tykö, ja näki turmeluksen.

for David, indeed, having served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep, and was added to his fathers, and saw corruption,

37 Mutta se, jonka Jumala herätti, ei ole nähnyt turmelusta.

but He whom God raised up, did not see corruption.

38 Sentähden olkoon teille tiettävä, miehet, rakkaat veljet, että teille tämän kautta ilmoitetaan syntein anteeksi antamus:

Let it therefore be known to you, men, brothers, that the forgiveness of sins is declared to you through this One,

39 Ja kaikista niistä, joista ette voineet Moseksen lain kautta vanhurskaaksi tulla, tämän kautta jokainen, joka uskoo, tulee vanhurskaaksi.

and from all things in the Law of Moses from which you were not able to be declared righteous, everyone who is believing in this One is declared righteous;

40 Katsokaat siis, ettei teidän päällenne se tule, mitä prophetain kautta sanottu on:

see, therefore, it may not come on you that has been spoken in the Prophets:

41 Katsokaat, te ylönkatsojat, ja ihmetelkäät ja hukkukaat; sillä minä teen yhden työn teidän aikananne, sen työn, jota ei teidän pidä uskoman, jos joku sanois teille.

See, you despisers, and wonder, and perish, because I work a work in your days, a work in which you may not believe, though anyone may declare [it] to you.”

42 Kuin Juudalaiset synagogasta läksivät, rukoilivat pakanat, että sabbatin välissä heille niitä sanoja puhuttaisiin.

And having gone forth out of the synagogue of the Jews, the nations were calling on [them] that on the next Sabbath these sayings may be spoken to them,

43 Ja kuin synagogan joukko erkani, seurasi monta Juudalaista ja myös monta jumalista uutta Juudalaista Paavalia ja Barnabasta, jotka heille puhuivat, ja heitä neuvoivat Jumalan armossa pysymään.

and the synagogue having been dismissed, many of the Jews and of the devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, were persuading them to remain in the grace of God.

44 Mutta sitte lähimmäisenä lepopäivänä kokoontui lähes kaikki kaupunki Jumalan sanaa kuulemaan.

And on the coming Sabbath, almost all the city was gathered together to hear the word of God,

45 Kuin Juudalaiset näkivät kansan, täytettiin he kateudesta, ja sanoivat vastaan niitä, mitä Paavalilta sanoittiin, sanoen vastaan ja pilkaten.

and the Jews having seen the multitudes, were filled with zeal, and contradicted the things spoken by Paul—contradicting and slandering.

46 Niin Paavali ja Barnabas puhuivat rohkiasti ja sanoivat: teille piti ensin Jumalan sanaa puhuttaman; vaan että te sen hylkäätte ja luette itsenne mahdottomaksi ijankaikkiseen elämään, katso, niinme käännymme pakanain tykö. (aiōnios g166)

And speaking boldly, Paul and Barnabas said, “It was necessary that the word of God be first spoken to you, and seeing you thrust it away, and do not judge yourselves worthy of the continuous life, behold, we turn to the nations; (aiōnios g166)

47 Sillä niin on Herra meitä käskenyt: minä panin sinun pakanain valkeudeksi, ettäs olisit autuus, maan ääriin asti.

for so the LORD has commanded us: I have set you for a light of nations—for your being for salvation to the end of the earth.”

48 Ja kuin pakanat sen kuulivat, iloitsivat he ja kunnioittivat Herran sanaa; ja niin monta uskoi, kuin ijankaikkiseen elämään säädetty oli. (aiōnios g166)

And the nations hearing were glad, and were glorifying the word of the LORD, and believed—as many as were appointed to continuous life; (aiōnios g166)

49 Ja Herran sana leveni kaikkeen siihen maakuntaan.

and the word of the LORD was spread abroad through all the region.

50 Mutta Juudalaiset yllyttivät jumalisia ja kunniallisia vaimoja, niin myös kaupungin ylimmäisiä, ja kehoittivat vainon Paavalia ja Barnabasta vastaan; ja he sysäsivät heidät ulos maansa ääristä.

And the Jews stirred up the devout and honorable women, and the first men of the city, and raised persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and put them out from their borders;

51 Mutta he pudistivat tomun jaloistansa heidän päällensä, ja tulivat Ikonioon.

and having shaken off the dust of their feet against them, they came to Iconium,

52 Niin opetuslapset täytettiin ilolla ja Pyhällä Hengellä.

and the disciples were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.
