1 Aikakirja 23
1 Kuin David oli vanha ja elämästä kyllänsä saanut, asetti hän poikansa Salomon Israelin kuninkaaksi,
Now David was old and full of days; and he made Solomon his son king over Israel.
2 Ja kokosi kaikki ylimmäiset Israelissa, ja papit ja Leviläiset,
And he gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites.
3 Että Leviläiset luettaisiin hamasta kolmestakymmenestä ajastajasta ja sen ylitse. Ja heidän lukunsa oli päästä päähän, väkeviä miehiä, kahdeksanneljättäkymmentä tuhatta,
And the Levites were numbered from thirty years old and upward; and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty and eight thousand.
4 Joista oli neljäkolmattakymmentä tuhatta teettäjää Herran huoneessa, ja kuusituhatta virkamiestä ja tuomaria;
Of these, twenty and four thousand were to oversee the work of the house of the LORD; and six thousand were officers and judges;
5 Ja neljätuhatta ovenvartiaa ja neljätuhatta niitä, jotka Herralle kiitosta veisasivat kanteleilla, jotka minä pannut olen kiitosta veisaamaan.
and four thousand were doorkeepers; and four thousand praised the LORD 'with the instruments which I made to praise therewith.'
6 Ja David teki järjestyksen Levin lapsille, Gersonille, Kahatille ja Merarille.
And David divided them into courses according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
7 Gersonilaisia olivat Laedan ja Simei.
Of the Gershonites: Ladan, and Shimei.
8 Laedanin lapset: ensimäinen Jehieli, Setam ja Joel, kolme;
The sons of Ladan: Jehiel the chief, and Zetham, and Joel, three.
9 Simein lapset: Salomit, Hasiel ja Haran, kolme. Nämät olivat Laedanin isäin ylimmäiset.
The sons of Shimei: Shelomith, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the heads of the fathers' houses of Ladan.
10 Olivat myös nämät Simein lapset: Jahat, Sina, Jeus ja Beria. Nämät neljä olivat Simein lapset.
And the sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zina, and Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.
11 Jahat oli ensimäinen, Sina toinen. Mutta Jeuksella ja Berialla ei ollut monta lasta, sentähden luettiin ne yhdeksi isän huoneeksi.
And Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second; but Jeush and Beriah had not many sons; therefore they became a fathers' house in one reckoning.
12 Kahatin lapset: Amram, Jitshar, Hebron ja Ussiel, neljä.
The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four.
13 Amramin lapset: Aaron ja Moses. Mutta Aaron eroitettiin, koska oli pyhitetty kaikkein pyhimmälle, hän ja hänen poikansa ijankaikkisesti, kantamaan suitsutusta Herran edessä, ja palvelemaan häntä, ja siunaamaan hänen nimeensä ijankaikkisesti.
The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses; and Aaron was separated, that he should be sanctified as most holy, he and his sons for ever, to offer before the LORD, to minister unto Him, and to bless in His name for ever.
14 Ja Moseksen Jumalan miehen lapset luettiin Leviläisten sukukuntain sekaan.
But as for Moses the man of God, his sons are named among the tribe of Levi.
15 Moseksen lapset olivat: Gersom ja Elieser.
The sons of Moses: Gershom, and Eliezer.
16 Gersomin lapset: ensimäinen oli Sebuel.
The sons of Gershom: Shebuel the chief.
17 Elieserin lapset: ensimäinen oli Rehabia. Ja Elieserillä ei ollut muita lapsia, vaan Rehabeamin lapsia oli paljon enempi.
And the sons of Eliezer were: Rehabiah the chief. And Eliezer had no other sons; but the sons of Rehabiah were very many.
18 Jitsharin lapset: Selomit ensimäinen.
The sons of Izhar: Shelomith the chief.
19 Hebronin lapset: Jeria ensimäinen, Amaria toinen, Jahasiel kolmas ja Jakneam neljäs.
The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the chief, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.
20 Ussielin lapset: Miika ensimäinen ja Jissia toinen.
The sons of Uzziel: Micah the chief, and Isshiah the second.
21 Merarin lapset: Maheli ja Musi. Mahelin lapset: Eleasar ja Kis.
The sons of Merari: Mahli, and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar, and Kish.
22 Mutta Eleasar kuoli, ja ei ollut hänellä poikia, vaan tyttäriä, jotka heidän veljensä Kisin pojat naivat.
And Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters only; and their brethren the sons of Kish took them to wife.
23 Musin lapset: Maheli, Eder ja Jeremot, kolme.
The sons of Mushi: Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three.
24 Nämät ovat Levin lapset heidän isäinsä huoneen jälkeen, isäin päämiehet, jotka nimien luvun jälkeen päästä päähän luetut olivat, jotka tekivät viran töitä Herran huoneen palveluksessa, kahdenkymmenen ajastaikaisista ja sen ylitse.
These were the sons of Levi after their fathers' houses, even the heads of the fathers' houses, according to their muster, in the number of names by their polls, who did the work for the service of the house of the LORD, from twenty years old and upward.
25 Sillä David sanoi: Herra Israelin Jumala, joka on asuva Jerusalemissa ijankaikkisesti, on antanut kansallensa levon.
For David said: 'The LORD, the God of Israel, hath given rest unto His people, and He dwelleth in Jerusalem for ever;
26 Ja ei Leviläiset tarvinneet kantaa majaa kaikkein hänen kaluinsa kanssa palvelukseen.
and also the Levites shall no more have need to carry the tabernacle and all the vessels of it for the service thereof.'
27 Ja Levin lapset luettiin Davidin viimeisten sanain jälkeen Leviläisten sekaan, kahdenkymmenen vuotisista ja sen ylitse,
For by the last ordinances of David the sons of Levi were numbered from twenty years old and upward.
28 Että heidän piti seisoman Aaronin lasten sivussa palvelemassa Herran huoneessa, kartanoilla ja kammioissa, ja kaikkinaisissa pyhitetyn puhdistuksissa, ja kaikissa viran töissä Herran huoneessa;
For their station was at the side of the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the LORD, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, even the work of the service of the house of God;
29 Ja oleman näkyleipäin, sämpyläjauhoin, ruokauhrein, happamattomain kyrsäin, pannuin, halstarien ja kaikkein vaakain ja mittain päällä;
for the showbread also, and for the fine flour for a meal-offering, whether of unleavened wafers, or of that which is baked on the griddle, or of that which is soaked, and for all manner of measure and size;
30 Ja seisoman joka aamulla, kiittämässä ja ylistämässä Herraa, niin myös ehtoolla,
and to stand every morning to thank and praise the LORD, and likewise at even;
31 Ja uhraamassa Herralle kaikkinaiset polttouhrit sabbateina, uudelle kuulla ja juhlapäivinä, luvun ja tavan jälkeen, alati Herran edessä,
and to offer all burnt-offerings unto the LORD, on the sabbaths, on the new moons, and in the appointed seasons, in number according to the ordinance concerning them, continually, before the LORD;
32 Ja ottamassa vaarin seurakunnan majasta ja pyhyyden vartiosta, ja Aaronin lasten heidän veljeinsä vartiosta, Herran huoneen palveluksessa.
and that they should keep the charge of the tent of meeting, and the charge of the holy place, and the charge of the sons of Aaron their brethren, for the service of the house of the LORD.
