1 Sen jälkeen tapahtui, että Nahas Ammonin lasten kuningas kuoli, ja hänen poikansa tuli kuninkaaksi hänen siaansa.
And it was after thus and he died Nahash [the] king of [the] people of Ammon and he reigned son his in place of him.
2 Niin David sanoi: minä osoitan laupiuden Hanunille Nahaksen pojalle; sillä hänen isänsä on tehnyt laupiuden minun kohtaani. Ja David lähetti sanansaattajat lohduttamaan häntä hänen isänsä tähden. Ja Davidin palveliat tulivat Ammonin lasten maalle Hanunin tykö, lohduttamaan häntä.
And he said David I will do loyalty - with Hanun [the] son of Nahash for he did father his with me loyalty and he sent David messengers to comfort him on father his and they came [the] servants of David into [the] land of [the] people of Ammon to Hanun to comfort him.
3 Niin sanoivat Ammonin lasten ylimmäiset Hanunille: luuletkos Davidin kunnioittavan isääs sinun silmäis edessä, että hän lähetti lohduttajat sinun tykös? ja eikö hänen palveliansa tulleet sinun tykös tutkistelemaan, kukistamaan ja vakoomaan maata?
And they said [the] officials of [the] people of Ammon to Hanun ¿ [is] honoring David father your in view your for he has sent to you comforters ¿ not in order to explore and to overthrow and to spy out the land have they come servants his to you.
4 Silloin otti Hanun Davidin palveliat, ajeli heidät ja leikkasi puolen heidän vaatteistansa liki kupeisiin asti, ja päästi heidät menemään.
And he took Hanun [the] servants of David and he shaved them and he cut off robes their in the middle to the buttock[s] and he sent away them.
5 Ja he menivät, ja se tehtiin Davidille tiettäväksi niistä mieheistä. Ja hän lähetti heitä vastaan (sillä miehet olivat sangen suuresti häväistys), ja kuningas sanoi: olkaat siihenasti Jerihossa kuin teidän partanne kasvaa, tulkaat sitte jälleen.
And people went and they told to David on the men and he sent to meet them for they were the men humiliated exceedingly and he said the king remain at Jericho until that it will grow back beard your and you will return.
6 Mutta kuin Ammonin lapset näkivät haisevansa Davidin edessä, lähetti Hanun ja Ammonin lapset tuhannen leiviskää hopiaa, palkataksensa vaunuja ja hevosmiehiä Mesopotamiasta ja Syrian Maekasta ja Sobasta.
And they saw [the] people of Ammon that they had made themselves odious with David and he sent Hanun and [the] people of Ammon one thousand talent[s] of silver to hire for themselves from Aram Naharaim and from Aram Maacah and from Zobah chariotry and horsemen.
7 Ja he palkkasivat kaksineljättäkymmentä tuhatta vaunua, ja Maekan kuninkaan väkinensä. He tulivat ja sioittivat itsensä Medban eteen. Ja Ammonin lapset kokoontuivat myös kaupungeistansa ja tulivat sotaan.
And they hired for themselves two and thirty thousand chariot[s] and [the] king of Maacah and people his and they came and they encamped before Medeba and [the] people of Ammon they gathered from cities their and they came for battle.
8 Kuin David sen kuuli, lähetti hän Joabin ulos ja koko sankarein sotajoukon.
And he heard David and he sent Joab and all [the] army the warriors.
9 Ja Ammonin lapset olivat lähteneet ja hankitsivat heitänsä sotaan kaupungin portin edessä; mutta kuninkaat, jotka tulleet olivat, olivat kedolla erinänsä.
And they went out [the] people of Ammon and they deployed battle [the] entrance of the city and the kings who they had come to alone them [were] in the open country.
10 Kuin Joab näki sodan sekä edessänsä että takanansa nousevan häntä vastaan, valitsi hän kaikki parhaat miehet Israelista ja asetti ne Syrialaisia vastaan.
And he saw Joab that it was [the] face of the battle against him face and back and he chose from every chosen [man] in Israel and he deployed to meet Aram.
11 Muun väen antoi hän veljensä Abisain käden alle, ja he varustivat itsensä Ammonin lapsia vastaan.
And [the] rest of the people he put in [the] hand of Abishai brother his and they deployed to meet [the] people of Ammon.
12 Ja hän sanoi: jos Syrialaiset tulevat minua väkevämmäksi, niin tule minun avukseni; ja jos Ammonin lapset tulevat sinua väkevämmäksi, niin minä autan sinua.
And he said if it will be [too] strong for me Aram and you will become for me deliverance. And if [the] people of Ammon they will be [too] strong for you and I will deliver you.
13 Ole miehuullinen, ja olkaamme vahvat kansamme edestä ja Jumalamme kaupunkein edestä: mutta Herra tehköön niinkuin hänelle otollinen on!
Be strong so let us show ourselves strong for people our and for [the] cities of God our and Yahweh the good in view his he will do.
14 Ja Joab lähestyi sillä väellä, joka hänen kanssansa oli, sotimaan Syrialaisia vastaan; ja ne pakenivat häntä.
And he drew near Joab and the people which [was] with him before Aram for battle and they fled from before him.
15 Kuin Ammonin lapset näkivät Syrialaisten pakenevan, pakenivat hekin Abisaita hänen veljeänsä ja menivät kaupunkiin; ja Joab meni Jerusalemiin.
And [the] people of Ammon they saw that it had fled Aram and they fled also they from before Abishai brother his and they went the city towards and he went Joab Jerusalem.
16 Kuin Syrialaiset näkivät itsensä Israelilta lyödyksi, lähettivät he sanansaattajat ja toivat Syrialaiset tuolta puolelta virtaa. Ja Sophak Hadareserin sodanpäämies meni heidän edellänsä.
And it saw Aram that they had been defeated before Israel and they sent messengers and they brought out Aram which [was] from [the] other side of the river and Shophach [the] commander of [the] army of Hadadezer [was] before them.
17 Kuin se oli Davidille sanottu, kokosi hän koko Israelin ja meni Jordanin ylitse. Ja kuin hän tuli heidän tykönsä, asettui hän heitä vastaan; ja David asetti itsensä Syrialaisia vastaan sotaan, ja ne sotivat hänen kanssansa.
And it was told to David and he gathered all Israel and he passed over the Jordan and he came to them and he deployed against them and he deployed David to meet Aram battle and they fought with him.
18 Mutta Syrialaiset pakenivat Israelia. Ja David tappoi Syrialaisista seitsemäntuhatta vaunua ja neljäkymmentä tuhatta jalkamiestä, hän tappoi myös Sophakin sodanpäämiehen.
And it fled Aram from to before Israel and he killed David of Aram seven thousand charioteer[s] and forty thousand man on foot and Shophach [the] commander of the army he killed.
19 Ja koska Hadareserin palveliat näkivät itsensä lyödyksi Israelilta, tekivät he rauhan Davidin kanssa, ja olivat hänen palveliansa; ja Syrialaiset ei tahtoneet enää auttaa Ammonin lapsia.
And they saw [the] servants of Hadadezer that they had been defeated before Israel and they made peace with David and they served him and not it was willing Aram to deliver [the] people of Ammon again.
