1 Solomo ƒe lododowo: Ɖevi si nya nu la nana fofoa kpɔa dzidzɔ, ke ɖevi si tsi bome la hea nuxaxa vɛ na dadaa.
The proverbs of Solomon [Peaceable, Recompense]. A wise son makes a glad father; but a foolish son brings grief to his mother.
2 Kesinɔnu si wokpɔ to mɔ fitifitiwo dzi la menye viɖe aɖeke o, gake dzɔdzɔnyenye ɖea ame tso ku me.
Treasures of wickedness profit nothing, but righteousness delivers from death.
3 Yehowa menaa dɔ wua ame dzɔdzɔewo o, ke egblẽa ame vɔ̃ɖiwo ƒe didiwo me.
Adonai will not allow the soul of the upright to go hungry, but he thrusts away the desire of the wicked.
4 Asi si wɔa kuvia la nana ame ɖoa ko gake asi si doa vevi nu la hea kesinɔnu vɛ.
He becomes poor who works with a lazy hand, but the hand of the diligent brings wealth.
5 Ame si ƒoa nukuwo nu ƒu le dzomeŋɔli la nye vi nyanu, ke ame si dɔa alɔ̃ le nuŋeɣi la, vi ŋukpenuwɔlae.
He who gathers in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps during the harvest is a son who causes shame.
6 Yayra anye fiakuku anɔ ame dzɔdzɔe ƒe ta ke ŋutasesẽ yɔa ame vɔ̃ ƒe nu me.
Blessings are on the head of the upright, but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.
7 Ŋkuɖoɖo ame dzɔdzɔe dzi anye yayra, ke ame vɔ̃ɖiwo ƒe ŋkɔ aƒaƒã.
The memory of the upright is blessed, but the name of the wicked will rot.
8 Ame si nunya le dzi me na la xɔa sededewo, ke bometsila, nukpoloeƒola, atsrɔ̃.
The wise in heart receives mitzvot ·instructions·, but a chattering fool will fall.
9 Ame si ŋu fɔɖiɖi mele o la zɔna le dedinɔnɔ me, ke asi atu ame si toa mɔ gɔglɔ̃wo dzi.
He who walks blamelessly walks surely, but he who perverts his ways will be found out.
10 Ame si tea ŋku ɖe ame kple dziku la hea nuxaxa vɛ, eye bometsila, nukpoloeƒola, atsrɔ̃.
One winking with the eye causes sorrow, but a chattering fool will fall.
11 Ame dzɔdzɔe ƒe nu nye agbevudo, ke ŋutasesẽ yɔa ame vɔ̃ɖi ƒe nu me.
The mouth of the upright is a spring of life, but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.
12 Fuléle hea mama vɛ, gake lɔlɔ̃ tsyɔa dzidadawo katã dzi.
Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all wrongs.
13 Nunya le nugɔmeselawo ƒe nuyi dzi, ke ameƒoti adze dzime na numanyalawo.
Wisdom is found on the lips of him who has discernment, but a rod is for the back of him who is void of understanding.
14 Nunyalawo dzraa gɔmesese ɖo, ke bometsila ƒe nu hea gbegblẽ vɛ.
Wise men lay up knowledge, but the mouth of the foolish is near ruin.
15 Kesinɔtɔwo ƒe kesinɔnuwo nye du si ŋu wotɔ glikpɔ sesẽ ɖo, ke hiãtɔwo ƒe ahedada nye woƒe gbegblẽ.
The rich man’s wealth is his strong city. The destruction of the poor is their poverty.
16 Ame dzɔdzɔe ƒe dɔwɔfetu hea agbe vɛ nɛ, gake ame vɔ̃ɖi ƒe viɖe hea tohehe vɛ nɛ.
The labor of the upright leads to life. The increase of the wicked leads to sin.
17 Ame si ɖo to amehehe la le agbemɔ fiam gake ame si gbea ɖɔɖɔɖo la kplɔa ame bubuwo tranae.
He is in the way of life who heeds correction, but he who forsakes reproof leads others astray.
18 Ame si ɣla fuléle ɖe eƒe dzi me la, alakpanuyi le esi eye ame si nɔa ame ŋu gblẽm la, bometsilae.
He who hides hatred has lying lips. He who utters a slander is a fool.
19 Afi si nya geɖe le la, nu vɔ̃ megbea afi ma nɔnɔ o, ke ame si lé eƒe aɖe la, nunyalae.
In the multitude of words there is no lack of disobedience, but he who restrains his lips does wisely.
20 Ame dzɔdzɔe ƒe aɖe le abe klosalo nyuitɔ ene, ke viɖe mele ame vɔ̃ɖi ƒe dzi ŋu o.
The tongue of the upright is like choice silver. The heart of the wicked is of little worth.
21 Ame dzɔdzɔe ƒe nuyi hea nunyiame vɛ na ame geɖewo, gake bometsilawo kuna le simadzemadze ta.
The lips of the upright feed many, but the foolish die for lack of understanding.
22 Yehowa ƒe yayra hea kesinɔnu vɛ, eye metsɔa fukpekpe aɖeke kpena ɖe eŋu o.
Adonai’s blessing brings wealth, and he adds no trouble to it.
23 Bometsila kpɔa dzidzɔ le nu tovo wɔwɔ ŋu, ke ame si sea nu gɔme la, nunyae nye eƒe dzidzɔ.
It is a fool’s pleasure to do wickedness, but wisdom is a man of understanding’s pleasure.
24 Nu si vɔ̃m ame vɔ̃ɖi le lae ava tui, ke nu si dim dzɔdzɔetɔ le la, eyae woanae.
What the wicked fear, will overtake them, but the desire of the upright will be granted.
25 Ne ahomya ƒo va yi la, ame vɔ̃ɖi la maganɔ anyi o, ke ame dzɔdzɔe ya anɔ te sesĩe ɖaa.
When the whirlwind passes, the wicked is no more; but the upright stand firm forever.
26 Abe ale si aha tsitsi nɔna na aɖu eye dzudzɔ nɔna na ŋku ene la, nenema kuviatɔ le na ame siwo dɔ dɔe.
As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to those who send him.
27 Yehowavɔvɔ̃ nana agbe didina. Ke ame vɔ̃ɖi ƒe agbenɔƒewo le kpuie.
The fear of Adonai prolongs days, but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.
28 Ame dzɔdzɔe ƒe viɖee nye dzidzɔ gake ame vɔ̃ɖiwo ƒe mɔkpɔkpɔ zua dzodzro.
The prospect of the upright is joy, but the hope of the wicked will perish.
29 Yehowa ƒe mɔ nye sitsoƒe na ame dzɔdzɔe, ke enye gbegblẽ na nu tovo wɔlawo.
The way of Adonai is a stronghold to the upright, but it is a destruction to the workers of iniquity.
30 Womaho ame dzɔdzɔe la akpɔ gbeɖe o gake ame vɔ̃ɖi ya manɔ anyigba la dzi o.
The upright will never be removed, but the wicked will not dwell in the land.
31 Nunya dona tso dzɔdzɔetɔ la ƒe nu me, gake woalã alakpaɖe la ɖa.
The mouth of the upright produces wisdom, but the perverse tongue will be cut off.
32 Ame dzɔdzɔe ƒe nuyiwo nya nya dzeto gbɔgblɔ, gake ame vɔ̃ɖi ƒe nu gblɔa nya tovowo.
The lips of the upright know what is acceptable, but the mouth of the wicked is perverse.
