< Nehemia 6 >
Now when it was reported to Sanballat, Tobiah, Geshem the Arabian, and to the rest of our enemies that I had built the wall, and that there was no breach left in it (though even to that time I had not set up the doors in the gates),
2 Sanbalat kple Gesem ɖo du ɖem be, “Va do go mí le kɔƒeawo dometɔ ɖeka me le Ono tagba,” gake ɖe woɖo be yewoawɔ nuvevim,
Sanballat and Geshem sent to me, saying, “Come! Let’s meet together in the villages in the plain of Ono.” But they intended to harm me.
3 eya ta megblɔ ɖo ɖe wo be, “Mele dɔ gã aɖe wɔm! Nyemate ŋu aɖe asi le dɔ la ŋu ava o. Nu ka tae maɖe asi le dɔ la ŋu ava do go mi ɖo?”
I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work, so that I can’t come down. Why should the work cease while I leave it and come down to you?”
4 Woɖo du ma ke ɖem zi ene, eye nye hã meɖo ŋuɖoɖo ma ke ɖe wo ɣe sia ɣi.
They sent to me four times like this; and I answered them the same way.
5 Ke zi atɔ̃lia la, Sanbalat ɖo eƒe dɔla ɖem kple gbedeasi ma ke, eye wòlé agbalẽ si nu wometre o la ɖe asi.
Then Sanballat sent his servant to me the same way the fifth time with an open letter in his hand,
6 Eme nyawoe nye: “Woɖe gbeƒã le dukɔwo dome be wò kple Yudatɔwo mieɖo be yewoadze aglã, eya ta miele gli la ɖɔm ɖo. Gesem ɖo kpe edzi be ele eme. Gawu la, le nya siwo gblɔm wole nu la, esusɔ vie woatsɔ wò aɖo woƒe fiae,
in which was written, “It is reported among the nations, and Gashmu says it, that you and the Jews intend to rebel. Because of that, you are building the wall. You would be their king, according to these words.
7 eye kura gɔ̃ hã la, èɖo Nyagblɔɖilawo be woaɖe gbeƒã nya sia le Yerusalem be, ‘Fia le Yuda si!’ Azɔ la, nutsotso sia aɖo fia gbɔ, eya ta va, ne miade aɖaŋu.”
You have also appointed prophets to proclaim of you at Jerusalem, saying, ‘There is a king in Judah!’ Now it will be reported to the king according to these words. Come now therefore, and let’s take counsel together.”
8 Nye ŋuɖoɖoe nye, “Wò ŋutɔ ènya be alakpa sɔŋ ko dam yele, nyateƒe aɖeke kura mele nya blibo sia me o.”
Then I sent to him, saying, “There are no such things done as you say, but you imagine them out of your own heart.”
9 Wo katã wole agbagba dzem be woado ŋɔdzi na mí hesusu be, “Woƒe alɔwo ado agblɔ le dɔ la ŋu, eye womate ŋu awu enu o.” Ke medo gbe ɖa be, “Do ŋusẽ nye alɔwo azɔ.”
For they all would have made us afraid, saying, “Their hands will be weakened from the work, that it not be done.” But now, strengthen my hands.
10 Gbe ɖeka la, meɖi tsa yi Semaya, Delaya ƒe vi, ame si nye Mehetabel ƒe tɔgbuiyɔvi, ame si tu ʋɔ ɖe eɖokui nu le eƒe aƒe me la gbɔ, elabena egblɔ nam be, nya aɖe tso Mawu gbɔ gbɔna na ye. Esi meɖo la, egblɔ nam be, “Na míayi aɖabe ɖe gbedoxɔ la me, eye míatu ʋɔtruawo goŋgoŋgoŋ, elabena wogbɔna be woawu mí le zã sia me.”
I went to the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah the son of Mehetabel, who was shut in at his home; and he said, “Let us meet together in God’s house, within the temple, and let’s shut the doors of the temple; for they will come to kill you. Yes, in the night they will come to kill you.”
11 Gake meɖo eŋu nɛ be, “Ɖe ame abe nye ene masia? Alo ɖe ame abe nye ene mayi gbedoxɔ me be maɖe nye agbea? Gbeɖe, nyemayi o!”
I said, “Should a man like me flee? Who is there that, being such as I, would go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in.”
12 Mekpɔe dze sii be, Mawu medɔe o, ke boŋ egblɔ nya ɖi nam, elabena Tobia kple Sanbalat wodɔe be wòagblɔ nya sia ɖi.
I discerned, and behold, God had not sent him, but he pronounced this prophecy against me. Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.
13 Ɖe wodae be wòado ŋɔdzi nam ne mawɔ nu vɔ̃ to nu sia wɔwɔ me, eye woaɖe vɔ̃e nam, aƒo ɖi nye ŋkɔ.
He was hired so that I would be afraid, do so, and sin, and that they might have material for an evil report, that they might reproach me.
14 Medo gbe ɖa be, “O! Nye Mawu, mègaŋlɔ Tobia, Sanbalat, Noaɖia, nyagblɔɖila la kple nyagblɔɖila bubu siwo katã dze agbagba be yewoado ŋɔdzi nam la ƒe nu vɔ̃wo be o.”
“Remember, my God, Tobiah and Sanballat according to these their works, and also the prophetess Noadiah and the rest of the prophets that would have put me in fear.”
15 Míewu gli la ɖoɖo nu le ɣleti Elul ƒe ŋkeke blaeve-vɔ-atɔ̃lia gbe le ŋkeke blaatɔ̃ vɔ eve ƒe dɔwɔwɔ megbe.
So the wall was finished in the twenty-fifth day of Elul, in fifty-two days.
16 Esi míaƒe futɔwo kple dukɔ siwo ƒo xlã mí se be míegbugbɔ gli la ɖo vɔ la, vɔvɔ̃ ɖo wo, eye dzi ɖe le wo ƒo, elabena wodze sii be míaƒe Mawu ƒe kpekpeɖeŋue na míete ŋu wu dɔ la nu.
When all our enemies heard of it, all the nations that were around us were afraid, and they lost their confidence; for they perceived that this work was done by our God.
17 Le ŋkeke blaatɔ̃ vɔ eve siawo me la, agbalẽŋɔŋlɔ nɔ Tobia kple Yudatɔwo ƒe dunyahela kesinɔtɔwo dome.
Moreover in those days the nobles of Judah sent many letters to Tobiah, and Tobiah’s letters came to them.
18 Eva eme alea elabena Yudatɔ geɖewo ka atam na Tobia le esi toa nye Sekania, Ara ƒe vi, eye via Yehohanan ɖe Mesulam, Berekia ƒe vi ƒe nyɔnuvi la ta.
For there were many in Judah sworn to him because he was the son-in-law of Shecaniah the son of Arah; and his son Jehohanan had taken the daughter of Meshullam the son of Berechiah as wife.
19 Gawu la, wo katã woɖia ɖase nam enuenu tso eƒe dɔ nyuiwo wɔwɔ ŋu, eye wotoa nya siwo katã megblɔna la hã nɛ. Ale Tobia ɖo agbalẽwo ɖa be wòatsɔ ado ŋɔdzi nam.
Also they spoke of his good deeds before me, and reported my words to him. Tobiah sent letters to put me in fear.
