1 Le Yosua ƒe ku megbe la, Israel dukɔ la yi Yehowa gbɔ be wòana eƒe ɖoɖowo yewo. Wobia Yehowa be, “Mía dometɔ kae anye ƒome gbãtɔ si aho aʋa ɖe Kanaantɔwo ŋu?”
It happened after the death of Joshua, the children of Israel asked of Jehovah, saying, "Who should go up first to fight for us against the Canaanites?"
2 Yehowa ɖo eŋu be, “Yuda ƒe to lae eye mana wòaɖu dzi.”
Jehovah said, "Judah should go up. Look, I have delivered the land into his hand."
3 Yuda ƒe viwo gblɔ na Simeon ƒe viwo be, “Miva kpe ɖe mía ŋu míanya ame siwo le anyigba si woma na mí la dzi ɖa eye míawo hã míakpe ɖe mia ŋu mianya mia tɔwo ɖa.” Ale Simeon ƒe viwo ƒe aʋakɔ yi ɖakpe ɖe Yuda ƒe viwo ŋu.
Judah said to Simeon his brother, "Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with you into your lot." So Simeon went with him.
4 Yehowa na woɖu Kanaantɔwo kple Perizitɔwo dzi, wowu ame akpe ewo le Bezek.
Judah went up; and Jehovah delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they struck of them in Bezek ten thousand men.
5 Wokpɔ Fia Adoni Bezek le afi ma eye wowɔ aʋa kplii,
They found Adoni-Bezek in Bezek; and they fought against him, and they struck the Canaanites and the Perizzites.
6 ke Adoni Bezek si eye wokplɔe ɖo, lée eye wolã eƒe degblefetsu asitɔwo kple afɔtɔwo siaa.
But Adoni-Bezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.
7 Fia Adoni Bezek gblɔ be, “Mewɔ fia blaadre ƒe asiwo kple afɔwo nenema tututu eye mena wofɔa nu wuwlui siwo ge tso nye kplɔ̃ dzi la ɖuna. Azɔ la, Mawu ɖo nye nu vɔ̃ teƒe nam.” Wokplɔe yi Yerusalem eye wòku le afi ma.
Adoni-Bezek said, "Seventy kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, scavenged under my table: as I have done, so God has requited me." They brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.
8 Yuda ƒe viwo ɖu Yerusalem dzi, wowu ameawo katã eye wotɔ dzo dua.
The people of Judah fought against Jerusalem, and took it, and struck it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.
9 Le esia megbe la, Yuda ƒe viwo wɔ aʋa kple Kanaantɔwo le Negeb ƒe tonyigba dzi kple gbadzaƒe si le ƒuta.
Afterward the people of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites who lived in the hill country, and in the Negev, and in the lowland.
10 Yuda ƒe viwo zɔ ɖe Kanaantɔwo dzi le Hebron, afi si woyɔna tsã be Kiriat Arba eye wogbã du siawo: Sesai, Ahiman kple Talmai.
And Judah went against the Canaanites who lived in Hebron, and Hebron came out in opposition (now the name of Hebron before was Kiriath Arba), and they struck Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.
11 Emegbe wodze Debir, du si woyɔna tsã be Kiriat Sefer la dzi.
From there he went against the inhabitants of Debir. (Now the name of Debir before was Kiriath Sepher.)
12 Kaleb gblɔ be yeatsɔ ye vinyɔnu Aksa na ŋutsu si awɔ aʋa aɖu Kiriat Sefer dua dzi.
Caleb said, "He who strikes Kiriath Sepher, and takes it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter as wife."
13 Otniel, Kenaz ƒe vi, ame si nye Kaleb ƒe tɔɖiyɔvi la, ɖu dua dzi, ale Kaleb tsɔ via nyɔnu Aksa na Otniel wozu srɔ̃a.
Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter as wife.
14 Esi Otniel kple Ahsa dze mɔ yina woƒe nɔƒe la, Ahsa gblɔ na Otniel be yeabia anyigba ye fofo kpe ɖe esi wòna ye xoxo la ŋu. Ale wòɖi le eƒe tedzi dzi be yeaƒo nu kple ye fofo, Kaleb, tso eŋuti. Kaleb biae be, “Nu kae hiã wò?”
It happened, when she came to him, that she got him to ask her father for a field. And she got off from her donkey, and Caleb said to her, "What would you like?"
15 Ahsa ɖo eŋu be, “Ènyo dɔ me nam, eye nèna anyigbam le Negeb, ke meɖe kuku, na vudowo hãm.” Ale Kaleb tsɔ vudo si le to dzi kple balime la nɛ.
She said to him, "Give me a blessing; since you have given me the land in the Negev, give me also springs of water." So Caleb gave her according to her heart the upper springs and the lower springs.
16 Esi Yuda ƒe viwo ʋu yi woƒe anyigba yeye la dzi le Negeb gbegbe, le Arad ƒe anyigbeme la, Mose toa ƒe dzidzimeviwo, ame siwo nye Kenitɔwo ƒe to la me tɔwo la yi kple wo. Wodzo le Yeriko, “Detiwo ƒe Du,” la me eye to eveawo nɔ teƒe ɖeka tso ɣe ma ɣi.
And the descendants of the Kenite, Moses' father-in-law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the people of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which is in the Negev of Arad; and they went and lived with the people.
17 Emegbe la, Yuda ƒe viwo ƒe aʋakɔ kpe ɖe Simeon ƒe viwo ƒe aʋakɔ ŋu, wowɔ aʋa kple Kanaantɔwo le Zefat du la me eye wowu ameawo katã. Ale woyɔa Zefat du la azɔ be, “Horma” si gɔmee nye “Amewo tsrɔ̃ƒe.”
Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they struck the Canaanites who inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. The name of the city was called Hormah.
18 Yuda ƒe viwo xɔ Gaza, Askelon kple Ekron kple wo ŋu kɔƒewo.
Also Judah took Gaza with its territory, and Ashkelon with its territory, and Ekron with its territory, and Ashdod with its surrounding lands.
19 Yehowa na Yuda ƒe viwo tsrɔ̃ woƒe futɔ siwo le tonyigba la dzi, ke womete ŋu ɖu ame siwo le balime la ya dzi o elabena gatasiaɖamwo nɔ woawo si.
Jehovah was with Judah; and drove out the inhabitants of the hill country; for he could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.
20 Wotsɔ Hebron du la na Kaleb le Yehowa ƒe ŋugbedodo nu, ale Kaleb nya dua me tɔwo, ame siwo nye Anak ƒe vi etɔ̃awo ƒe dzidzimeviwo.
They gave Hebron to Caleb, as Moses had spoken. And from there he possessed the three cities, and he drove out from there the three sons of Anak.
21 Benyamin ƒe viwo mete ŋu tsrɔ̃ Yebusitɔwo, ame siwo nɔ Yerusalem o eya ta wogale afi ma kple Israelviwo va se ɖe egbe.
The people of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites who inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the people of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this day.
22 Azɔ la Yosef ƒe aƒe la dze Betel dzi eye Yehowa nɔ kpli wo.
And the house of Joseph also went up against Bethel; and Jehovah was with them.
23 Esi woɖo amewo ɖa be woatsa ŋku le Betel si woyɔna tsã be Luz la,
And the house of Joseph sent out spies to Bethel. (Now the name of the city before was Luz.)
24 ŋkutsalawo kpɔ ŋutsu aɖe wòdo tso dua me eye wogblɔ nɛ be, “Fia mɔ si míato age ɖe dua me la mí ekema míakpɔ egbɔ be womawɔ nuvevi aɖeke wò o.”
And the spies saw a man coming out of the city, and they captured him, and they said to him, "Please show us the entrance into the city, and we will show you mercy."
25 Efia mɔ wo. Ale wowu dua me tɔwo katã kple yi negbe ŋutsu la kple eƒe ƒome blibo la ko.
He showed them the entrance into the city; and they struck the city with the edge of the sword; but they let the man go and all his family.
26 Ŋutsu la ʋu yi ɖe Hititɔwo ƒe anyigba dzi, afi si wòtso du ɖo hena ŋkɔe be Luz eye aleae woyɔnɛ va se ɖe egbe.
The man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called its name Luz, which is its name to this day.
27 Ke Manase ƒe viwo menya ame siwo nɔ Bet Sean, Taanak, Dor alo Ibleam alo Megido kple ame siwo nɔ wo ŋu kɔƒewo me la o elabena Kanaantɔwo ɖoe kplikpaa be yewoanɔ anyigba ma dzi.
Manasseh did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shean and its towns, nor Taanach and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns; but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.
28 Esi Israelviwo va kpɔ ŋusẽ la, wote Kanaantɔ ɖe anyi be woawɔ dzizizidɔ na yewo, gake womenya wo keŋkeŋ o.
It happened, when Israel had grown strong, that they put the Canaanites to forced labor, and did not utterly drive them out.
29 Nenema ke Efraim ƒe viwo hã menya Kanaantɔ siwo nɔ Gezer la o, ke boŋ Kanaantɔwo nɔ wo dome.
Ephraim didn't drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer; but the Canaanites lived in Gezer among them.
30 Zebulɔn ƒe viwo hã menya Kanaatɔ siwo nɔ Kitron alo Nahalol la o, ke boŋ wotsi wo dome eye Israelviwo na wowɔ dzizizidɔ na wo.
Zebulun didn't drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites lived among them, and became subject to forced labor.
31 Aser ƒe viwo menya ame siwo nɔ Ako, Sidon, Ahlab, Akzib, Helba, Afek kple Rehob o.
Asher did not drive out the inhabitants of Acco, nor the inhabitants of Sidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob;
32 Le esia ta la, Aser viwo nɔ Kanaantɔ siwo nɔ anyigba la dzi la dome elabena womenyã wo ɖa o.
but the Asherites lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; for they did not drive them out.
33 Nenema ke Naftali ƒe viwo hã menya ame siwo nɔ Bet Semes alo Bet Anat o, ke boŋ Naftali ƒe viwo hã nɔ Kanaantɔ siwo nɔ anyigba la dzi la dome. Ke wona ame siwo nɔ Bet Semes kple Bet Anat la zu dzizizidɔwɔlawo na wo.
Naphtali didn't drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth Anath; but he lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh and of Beth Anath became subject to forced labor.
34 Amoritɔwo xe mɔ na Dan ƒe viwo ale be wona wotsi tonyigba la dzi eye womena mɔ wo kura be woaɖiɖi ava balime la o.
The Amorites forced the people of Dan into the hill country; for they would not allow them to come down to the valley;
35 Amoritɔwo ɖoe kplikpaa hã be Heres tɔ, Aiyalon kple Saalbim nanɔ yewoƒe asi me, gake esi Yosef ƒe aƒe ƒe ŋusẽ dzi ɖe edzi la, woawo hã zi Amoritɔwo dzi be woawɔ dzizizidɔ na yewo.
but the Amorites would dwell in Mount Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became subject to forced labor.
36 Amoritɔwo ƒe liƒo tso Akrabim to dzi mɔ gã la gbɔ yi ɖe Sela kple egodo ke.
The border of the Amorites was from the ascent of Akrabbim, from Sela and upward.
