< Yona 4 >

1 Ke esi Mawu tsɔ Ninivetɔwo ƒe nu vɔ̃wo ke wo la, Yona do dɔmedzoe vevie.
But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was angry.
2 Edo gbe ɖa na Yehowa be, “O Yehowa, ɖe menye esiae megblɔ esi mele mía dedu me oa? Esia ta le gɔmedzedzea me la, mesi ɖo ta Tarsis, elabena menya be Mawu, amenuvela kple nublanuikpɔlae nènye. Ègbɔa dzi blewu; lɔlɔ̃ matrɔ bɔ ɖe asiwò, eye nètsɔa nu vɔ̃wo kena.
And he prayed to Jehovah, and said, I pray thee, O Jehovah, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I hastened to flee to Tarshish, for I knew that thou are a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, and relent thee of the evil.
3 Eya ta Yehowa, meɖe kuku ɖe nye agbe ɖa; enyo nam be maku wu be manɔ agbe.”
Therefore now, O Jehovah, I beseech thee, take my life from me, for it is better for me to die than to live.
4 Yehowa trɔ biae be, “Enyo be nàdo dɔmedzoe ɖe nu sia ta?”
And Jehovah said, Do thou well to be angry?
5 Ale Yona yi ɖanɔ anyi ɖe dua ƒe ɣedzeƒe lɔƒo nublanuitɔe, eye wòtsɔ aŋgbawo wɔ agbadɔe henɔ ete nɔ lalam be yeakpɔ nu si le dzɔdzɔ ge ɖe dua dzi la ɖa.
Then Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made himself a booth, and sat under it in the shade, till he might see what would become of the city.
6 Yehowa, Mawu na yevukutsati mie heɖo vɔvɔli ɖe Yona tame be wòatsi ŋudɔɖuame la nu. Yona kpɔ dzidzɔ ŋutɔ le yevukutsati la ŋuti.
And Jehovah God prepared a gourd, and made it to come up over Jonah, that it might be a shade over his head, to deliver him from his misery. So Jonah was very glad because of the gourd.
7 Ke le fɔŋli la, Mawu na ŋɔ aɖe ɖu yevukutsati la, eye wòyrɔ.
But God prepared a worm when the morning rose the next day, and it smote the gourd, that it withered.
8 Esi ɣe dze la, Mawu na ŋdɔ sesẽ la kplɔ ɣedzeƒeya xɔdzo aɖe va ƒo ɖe Yona dzi va se ɖe esime nu te eŋu vevie, eye wòbia be yeaku, elabena egblɔ be, “Enyo nam be maku wu manɔ agbe.”
And it came to pass, when the sun arose, that God prepared a sultry east wind, and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, that he fainted, and requested for himself that he might die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live.
9 Mawu gblɔ na Yona be, “Enyo be nàdo dɔmedzoe esi ati la kua?” Yona ɖo eŋu be, “Ɛ̃, tɔnye dzɔ be mado dɔmedzoe va se ɖe esime maku!”
And God said to Jonah, Do thou well to be angry for the gourd? And he said, I do well to be angry, even to death.
10 Yehowa gblɔ nɛ be, “Esi ati si dzi mèkpɔ wòtsi o, eya ŋutɔe mie le zã ɖeka me, eye wòku le zã ɖeka me la ƒe ku le vewòm ale ɖe,
And Jehovah said, Thou have had regard for the gourd, for which thou have not labored, nor made it grow, which came up in a night, and perished in a night.
And should not I have regard for Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than one hundred and twenty thousand men who cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand, and also much cattle?
