< Mose 1 4 >
1 Adam dɔ kple srɔ̃a, Eva, eye wòfɔ fu dzi Kain. Eva gblɔ be, “To Yehowa ƒe amenuveve me la, medzi ŋutsu.”
Now, the man, having come to know Eve his wife, —she conceived and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a Man, even Yahweh!
2 Eva gadzi ŋutsuvi bubu, eye wòna ŋkɔe be Abel. Abel nye lãnyila, eye Kain nye agbledela.
And she went on to bear his brother, Abel, —and Abel became a feeder of sheep, whereas Cain, was a tiller of the round.
3 Le nuŋeɣi la, Kain tsɔ eƒe agblemenukuwo sa vɔ na Yehowa,
So it came to pass, after certain days, that Cain brought in of the fruit of the ground, a present to Yahweh:
4 eye Abel hã tsɔ eƒe alẽvi damitɔ sa vɔ nɛ. Yehowa xɔ Abel ƒe vɔsa,
Abel, also, even, he, brought in of the firstlings of his sheep, and of their fat, and Yahweh approved of Abel and of his present;
5 gake mexɔ Kain tɔ o. Nu sia na Kain xa nu, eye wòdo dɔmedzoe heɖo adã.
but of Cain and his present, he approved not, —and it angered Cain greatly, and his countenance fell.
6 Yehowa bia Kain be, “Nu ka ta nèdo dɔmedzoe vevie, eye nèyɔ mo ɖo?
So then Yahweh said unto Cain, —Wherefore hath it angered thee, and wherefore hath thy countenance fallen?
7 Wò mo ate ŋu akɔ kple dzidzɔ ne ɖe nèwɔ nu si wòle be nàwɔ la! Ke esi nèwɔ vɔ̃ ta la, nu vɔ̃ le wò ʋɔtru nu le lalawòm be yeaɖu dziwò. Ke dze agbagba be nàɖu edzi!”
Shall it not, if thou do right, be lifted up? But if thou do not right, at the entrance a sin-bearer is lying, —Unto thee, moreover, shall be his longing, though, thou, rule over him.
8 Gbe ɖeka la, Kain gblɔ na nɔvia, Abel be, “Na míayi gbedzi.” Esi woyi gbea dzi la, Kain wu nɔvia, Abel.
And Cain said unto Abel his brother Let us go into the field And it came to pass when they were in the field that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
9 Emegbe la, Yehowa bia Kain be, “Afi ka nɔviwò, Abel le?” Kain ɖo eŋu be, “Nyemenya o. Nɔvinyeŋudzɔlae menyea?”
Then said Yahweh unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said I know not, the keeper of my brother, am, I?
10 Yehowa gblɔ nɛ be, “Nu kae nye esi nèwɔ? Kpɔ ɖa, nɔviwò ƒe ʋu do ɣli tso anyigba dzi va ɖo gbɔnye na hlɔ̃biabia.
And he said, What hast thou done? With a voice, the shed-blood of thy brother is crying out to me from the ground,
11 Ke fifia fiƒode le dziwò, eye menya wò ɖa tso anyigba si nèdo gui kple nɔviwò ƒe ʋu la dzi.
Now therefore, accursed, art thou, —from the ground which hath opened her mouth, to receive the shed-blood of thy brother at thy hand.
12 Anyigba maganyo nuku na wò o, ne èku kutri le edzi vevie gɔ̃ hã! Azɔ la, àzu tsaglãlatsala kple godzela le anyigba dzi.”
Though thou till the ground, it shall not go on to give its vigour to thee. A wanderer and a fugitive, shalt thou be in the earth.
13 Kain ɖo eŋu na Yehowa be, “Nye tohehe kpe wu tsɔtsɔ nam,
And Cain said unto Yahweh—Greater is my punishment than I can bear.
14 elabena ènyam ɖa tso nye agble kple wò ŋutɔ gbɔ, èwɔm tsaglãlatsala kple godzela, eye ame sia ame si akpɔm la, adi be yeawum.”
Lo! thou has driven me out, this day, from off the face of the ground And from thy face, shall I be hid, So shall I become a wanderer and a fugitive in the earth. And it shall come to pass, whosoever findeth me, will slay me.
15 Yehowa gblɔ nɛ be, “Womawu wò o, elabena mada wò tohehe teƒe adre ɖe ame si awu wò la dzi.” Ale Yehowa de dzesi tɔxɛ Kain ŋu si ana be ame aɖeke mawui o.
And Yahweh said to him—Not so, whosoever slayeth Cain seven—fold, shall it be avenged. So Yahweh set, for Cain, a sign, that none finding him should smite him.
16 Ale Kain dzo le Yehowa ƒe ŋkume, eye wòyi ɖanɔ Nodnyigba si le Edenbɔ ƒe ɣedzeƒe lɔƒo la dzi.
So Cain went forth from the presence of Yahweh, —and dwelt in the land of Nod, eastward of Eden.
17 Kain srɔ̃ fɔ fu, eye wòdzi ŋutsuvi. Ena ŋkɔe be Enɔk. Esia ta esi Kain tso du aɖe la, etsɔ via ƒe ŋkɔ nɛ be Enɔk.
And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived, and bare Enoch, —Now it happened that he was building a city, so he called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.
18 Enɔk nye Irad fofo, Irad nye Mehuyael fofo, Mehuyael nye Metusael fofo, Metusael nye Lamek fofo.
And there was born to Enoch Irad, and, Irad, begat Mehujael, —and Mehujael, begat Methusael, —and Methusael, begat Lamech.
19 Lamek ɖe srɔ̃ eve, Ada kple Zila.
And Lamech took to himself two wives, —the name of the one, was Adah, and, the name of the second Zillah.
20 Ada dzi Yabal. Eyae zu nyikplɔla kple ame siwo nɔa avɔgbadɔwo me la dometɔ gbãtɔ.
And Adah bare Jabal, —he, was father of such as dwell in tents, and have cattle;
21 Nɔvia ŋutsu ŋkɔe nye Yubal, eye wònye ame gbãtɔ si wɔ kasaŋku kple dze.
and, the name of his brother, was Jubal, —he, was father of everyone handling lyre and flute,
22 Lamek srɔ̃ evelia, Zila dzi Tubal Kain. Eyae zu gbede gbãtɔ, eye wòtua nuwo kple akɔbli kple gayibɔ. Tubal Kain nɔvinyɔnue nye Naama.
And, as for Zillah, she also, bare Tubal-Cain, a sharpener of every cutting instrument of bronze and iron, —and, the sister of Tubal-Cain, was Naamah.
23 Gbe ɖeka la, Lamek gblɔ na Ada kple Zila be, “Srɔ̃nyewo, miɖo tom. Mewu ame aɖe si de abi ŋunye, ɖekakpui aɖe si wɔ nuvevim.
Then said Lamech to his wives, Adah and Zillah! hear ye my voice, Ye wives of Lamech! give ear to my tale, For a man, have I slain in dealing my wounds, Yea, a youth, in smiting my blows:
24 Ne woahe to na ame si awu Kain zi adre la, ekema ele be woahe to na Lamek zi blaadre-vɔ-adre!”
If, sevenfold, be, the avenging of Cain, Then, of Lamech, seventy and seven.
25 Emegbe la, Adam kple srɔ̃a nɔ anyi eye Eva gadzi ŋutsuvi, eye wòna ŋkɔe be Set si gɔmee nye “Teƒeɖoɖo,” elabena Eva gblɔ be, “Mawu tsɔ ŋutsuvi bubu ɖo Abel, ame si Kain wu la teƒe nam.”
And Adam again knew his wife, and she bare a son, and called his name Seth, —For God hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, because Cain slew him!
26 Esi Set tsi la, edzi ŋutsuvi, eye wòna ŋkɔe be Enos. Le ɣe ma ɣi me la, amewo de asi Yehowa ŋkɔ yɔyɔ me.
And to Seth—to him also, was born a son, and he called his name Enosh, —then, was a beginning made, to call on the name of Yahweh.
