1 Yakob kple eƒe amewo gadze mɔ, eye mawudɔlawo va do goe.
And Jacob he went to way his and they met him [the] angels of God.
2 Esi Yakob kpɔ wo la, edo ɣli be, “Mawu ƒe asaɖae nye esia!” Eya ta ena ŋkɔ teƒea be Mahanaim.
And he said Jacob just when he saw them [is] [the] camp of God this and he called [the] name of the place that Mahanaim.
3 Yakob dɔ amewo ɖe foa Esau gbɔ le Edom le Seirnyigba dzi.
And he sent Jacob messengers before him to Esau brother his [the] land of towards Seir [the] region of Edom.
4 Egblɔ na wo bena, “Ale miagblɔ na nye aƒetɔ Esau enye si: ‘Nye Wò dɔla Yakob, meyi ɖanɔ mía nyrui, Laban gbɔ va se ɖe egbe.
And he commanded them saying thus you will say! to lord my to Esau thus he says servant your Jacob with Laban I have sojourned and I have delayed until now.
5 Fifia nyiwo, tedziwo, alẽwo kple subɔla geɖewo, ŋutsuwo kple nyɔnuwo siaa le asinye. Mele ame siawo ɖom ɖa be woana nyanya wò nye aƒetɔ be megbɔna, eye mele mɔ kpɔm be àxɔ mí nɔvitɔe.’”
And it be[longs] to me ox[en] and donkey[s] flock[s] and [male] servant[s] and female servant[s] and I have sent! to tell to lord my to find favor in view your.
6 Ame dɔdɔawo trɔ tso Esau gbɔ va gblɔ na Yakob be Esau gbɔna Yakob kpe ge kple ame alafa ene!
And they returned the messengers to Jacob saying we went to brother your to Esau and also [he is] coming to meet you and four hundred man [are] with him.
7 Vɔvɔ̃ ɖo Yakob. Ema eƒe amewo kple lãhawo kpakple kposɔwo ɖe akpa eve,
And he was afraid Jacob exceedingly and it was distress to him and he divided the people which [was] with him and the flock and the herd and the camels into two camps.
8 elabena egblɔ be, “Ne Esau adze hatsotso ɖeka dzi la, ɖewohĩ hatsotso evelia me tɔwo ate ŋu asi.”
And he said if he will come Esau to the camp one and he will attack it and it will become the camp which remains an escaped remnant.
9 Tete Yakob do gbe ɖa be “O, tɔgbuinye Abraham kple fofonye Isak ƒe Mawu, O, Yehowa, wò ame si gblɔ nam be matrɔ va nye ƒometɔwo ƒe anyigba dzi, eye nèdo ŋugbe be yeawɔ nyui nam la,
And he said Jacob O God of father my Abraham and [the] God of father my Isaac O Yahweh who said to me return to land your and to kindred your so let me do good with you.
10 nyemedze na wò amenuveve si nèɖena fiaam edziedzi abe ale si nèdo ŋugbe nam ene o, elabena esi metso Yɔdan la, naneke menɔ asinye wu atizɔti ɖeka o! Ke azɔ la, mezu aʋakɔ eve!
I am [too] insignificant for all the covenant loyalti and for all the faithfulness which you have done with servant your for with staff my I passed over the Jordan this and now I have become two camps.
11 O, Yehowa, meɖe kuku na wò, ɖem tso tsɔtsrɔ̃ me le fonye Esau ƒe asi me, elabena mele vɔvɔ̃m ŋutɔ be ava ho aʋa ɖe nye ŋutɔ, srɔ̃nyewo kple vinyewo ŋu.
Deliver me please from [the] hand of brother my from [the] hand of Esau for [am] fearing I him lest he should come and he will attack me mother with children.
12 Ke èdo ŋugbe be yeawɔ nyui nam, eye yeana nye dzidzimeviwo nasɔ gbɔ abe ƒutake ene, eye womate ŋu axlẽ wo o.”
And you you have said certainly I will do good with you and I will make offspring your like [the] sand of the sea which not it will be counted from multitude.
13 Etsi afi ma dɔ, eye wòtia nu siwo nɔ esi la ƒe ɖe na foa Esau:
And he stayed [the] night there in the night that and he took some of which came in hand his a gift for Esau brother his.
14 gbɔ̃nɔ alafa eve kple gbɔ̃tsu blaeve, alẽnɔ alafa eve kple agbo blaeve,
Female goats two hundred and male goats twenty ewes two hundred and rams twenty.
15 kposɔnɔ blaetɔ̃ kple wo viwo, nyinɔ blaene kple nyitsu ewo, tedzinɔ blaeve kple tedzitsu ewo.
Camels suckling and young their thirty cows forty and bulls ten female donkeys twenty and male donkeys ten.
16 Egblɔ na eƒe subɔlawo be woadze ŋgɔ kple lãha siawo, lãha ɖe sia ɖe nanɔ eɖokui si, eye dometsotso nanɔ wo dome.
And he gave [them] in [the] hand of servants his herd herd to only it and he said to servants his pass over before me and a space you will put between a herd and between a herd.
17 Egblɔ na ame siwo le lãha gbãtɔ kplɔm la be ne wodo go Esau, eye wòbia wo be, “Afi ka yim miele? Ame ka ƒe subɔlawo mienye? Ame ka ƒe lãwoe nye esiawo?” la,
And he commanded the first saying that he will meet you Esau brother my and he will ask you saying [belong] to whom? you and where? are you going and [belong] to whom? these [animals] before you.
18 woaɖo eŋu be, “Wò subɔla, Yakob ƒe lãwoe. Wonye nunana na eƒe aƒetɔ Esau! Ele mía yome gbɔna!”
And you will say to servant your to Jacob [is] a gift it [which has] been sent to lord my to Esau and there! also he [is] behind us.
19 Yakob gblɔ nya mawo ke na lãkplɔla bubuawo hã be woagblɔ na Esau.
And he commanded both the second as well as the third as well as all who were going behind the herds saying according to the manner this you will speak! to Esau when find you him.
20 Yakob ƒe tameɖoɖoe nye be yeakpata Esau kple nunanawo hafi yeado goe ŋkume kple ŋkume! Yakob kpɔ mɔ be, “Ɖewohĩ axɔ mí nyuie.”
And you will say also there! servant your Jacob [is] behind us for he said I will cover face his by the gift that is going before me and after thus I will see face his perhaps he will lift up face my.
21 Ale wòɖo nunanawo ɖa do ŋgɔ, eye Yakob gatsi asaɖa me dɔ.
And it passed on the gift on face his and he [was] staying [the] night in the night that in the camp.
22 Le zã me la, Yakob fɔ, eye wòkplɔ srɔ̃a eveawo, eƒe kosi eveawo kple via wuiɖekɛawo, eye wotso Yɔdan tɔsisi la le tɔtsoƒe si ŋkɔe nye Yabok.
And he rose - in the night that and he took [the] two wives his and [the] two maidservants his and one [plus] ten sons his and he passed over [the] ford of Jabbok.
23 Ale wòkplɔ wo tso tɔ lae kple eƒe nunɔamesiwo katã.
And he took them and he sent over them the wadi and he sent over [that] which [belonged] to him.
24 Yakob trɔ va asaɖa la me, eye eya ɖeka nɔ afi ma. Ŋutsu aɖe te kame kplii va se ɖe fɔŋli.
And he remained Jacob to only him and he wrestled a man with him until came up the dawn.
25 Esi ŋutsu la kpɔ be yemate ŋu aɖu Yakob dzi o la, etɔ asi Yakob ƒe aligo, eye ƒuawo gli le enu.
And he saw that not he prevailed to him and he touched [the] socket of thigh his and it was dislocated [the] socket of [the] thigh of Jacob when wrestled he with him.
26 Tete ŋutsu la gblɔ nɛ be, “Ɖe asi le ŋunye mayi, elabena ŋu le kekem.” Ke Yakob ɖo eŋu be, “Nyemele asi ɖe ge le ŋuwò o, negbe ɖeko nàyram hafi.”
And he said let go me for it has come up the dawn and he said not I will let go you that except you have blessed me.
27 Ŋutsu la biae be, “Ŋkɔwò ɖe?” Eɖo eŋu be, “Yakob.”
And he said to him what? [is] name your and he said Jacob.
28 Ŋutsu la gblɔ nɛ be, “Womagayɔ wò azɔ nenema o! Woayɔ wò azɔ be Israel, ame si te kame kple Mawu. Esi nète kame kple Mawu ta la, àɖu amewo dzi.”
And he said not Jacob it will be called again name your that except Israel for you have struggled with God and with people and you have prevailed.
29 Yakob biae be, “Wò hã ŋkɔwò ɖe?” Ŋutsu la ɖo eŋu be, “Nu ka ta nèbia ŋkɔnye ta ɖo.” Eye wòyrae le afi ma.
And he asked Jacob and he said tell! please name your and he said why? this do you ask to name my and he blessed him there.
30 Yakob na ŋkɔ teƒea be “Peniel” si gɔmee nye “Mawu ƒe ŋkume,” elabena egblɔ be, “Mekpɔ Mawu ŋkume kple ŋkume, gake metsi agbe.”
And he called Jacob [the] name of the place Peniel for I have seen God face to face and it has been delivered life my.
31 Esi wògadze mɔ ko la, ɣe dze. Le eƒe aligoƒu si gli ta la, ede asi tɔtɔ me.
And it rose to him the sun just when he passed over Penuel and he [was] limping on thigh his.
32 Esia ta Israelviwo meɖua ka titri si to lãwo ƒe aligo dzi o, elabena wotɔ asi ka si le Yakob ƒe aligokpeƒe la dzi.
There-fore not they eat [the] people of Israel [the] sinew of the tendon which [is] on [the] socket of the thigh until the day this for he touched [the] socket of [the] thigh of Jacob [the] sinew of the tendon.
