< Daniel 1 >
1 Le Yuda fia Yehoyakim ƒe fiaɖuɖu ƒe ƒe etɔ̃lia me la, Babilonia fia Nebukadnezar va Yerusalem, eye wòɖe to ɖee.
In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it.
2 Aƒetɔ la tsɔ Yehoyakim, Yuda fia de asi nɛ kple nanewo tso Mawu ƒe gbedoxɔ me. Etsɔ nu siawo yi eƒe mawu ƒe gbedoxɔ me le Babilonia, eye wòda wo ɖe eƒe mawu ƒe nudzraɖoƒe.
The Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with some of the vessels of the house of God; and he carried them into the land of Shinar to the house of his god. He brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god.
3 Fia la ɖe gbe na Aspenaz, aƒedzikpɔlawo ƒe amegã be wòatia Israelviwo dometɔ aɖewo tso fia la kple bubumewo ƒe ƒomewo me,
The king spoke to Ashpenaz, the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring in some of the children of Israel, even of the royal offspring and of the nobles:
4 ɖekakpui siwo menye nuwɔamitɔwo le go aɖeke me o, wodze ɖeka, woɖi ame siwo dina be yewoasrɔ̃ nu tso nu sia nu ŋu, wonya nu, sea nu gɔme kabakaba eye wodze na dɔwɔwɔ le fiasã la me. Ele nɛ be wòafia Babiloniatɔwo ƒe gbegbɔgblɔ kple nuŋɔŋlɔ wo.
youths in whom was no defect, but well-favoured, skilful in all wisdom, endowed with knowledge, understanding science, and who had the ability to stand in the king’s palace; and that he should teach them the learning and the language of the Chaldeans.
5 Fia la naa woƒe gbe sia gbe ƒe nuɖuɖu kple wain wo tso fia la ƒe kplɔ̃ dzi. Woahe wo ƒe etɔ̃ eye le ɣeyiɣi sia megbe la, woazu fia la ƒe subɔlawo.
The king appointed for them a daily portion of the king’s delicacies and of the wine which he drank, and that they should be nourished three years, that at its end they should stand before the king.
6 Ame siawo dometɔ aɖewo nye Yudatɔwo. Woawoe nye Daniel, Hananiya, Misael kple Azaria.
Now amongst these of the children of Judah were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.
7 Amegã la tsɔ ŋkɔ yeye na wo: Daniel ƒe ŋkɔ yeyeae nye Beltesazar, Hananiya tɔe nye Sadrak, Misael tɔe nye Mesak, eye Azaria tɔe nye Abednego.
The prince of the eunuchs gave names to them: to Daniel he gave the name Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abednego.
8 Ke Daniel ɖo ta me be yemagblẽ kɔ ɖo na ye ɖokui kple fia la ƒe nuɖuɖu kple wain o, eye wòbia mɔ eƒe dzikpɔla be yemagblẽ kɔ ɖo na ye ɖokui to mɔ sia dzi o.
But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank. Therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
Now God made Daniel find kindness and compassion in the sight of the prince of the eunuchs.
10 Ke dzikpɔla la gblɔ na Daniel be, “Mele vɔvɔ̃m na nye aƒetɔ kple fia la, ame si ɖo wò nuɖuɖu kple nunono nam. Nu ka ta wòakpɔ wò, wò lãme manyo abe wò hati ɖekakpui bubuawo tɔ ene o? Ekema fia la axɔ nye ta ɖe tawò.”
The prince of the eunuchs said to Daniel, “I fear my lord the king, who has appointed your food and your drink. For why should he see your faces worse looking than the youths who are of your own age? Then you would endanger my head with the king.”
11 Daniel gblɔ na ameŋudzɔla si dzikpɔla la tia be wòadzɔ Daniel, Hananiya, Misael kple Azaria ŋu la be,
Then Daniel said to the steward whom the prince of the eunuchs had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:
12 “Meɖe kuku do wò dɔlawo kpɔ ŋkeke ewo. Mègana nu bubu aɖeke mí wu amagbe si míaɖu kple tsi si míano o.
“Test your servants, I beg you, ten days; and let them give us vegetables to eat and water to drink.
Then let our faces be examined before you, and the face of the youths who eat of the king’s delicacies; and as you see, deal with your servants.”
14 Ale wòlɔ̃ eye wòdo wo kpɔ ŋkeke ewo.
So he listened to them in this matter, and tested them for ten days.
At the end of ten days, their faces appeared fairer and they were fatter in flesh than all the youths who ate of the king’s delicacies.
16 Ale ameŋudzɔla la ɖe nuɖuɖu nyui si woaɖu kple wain si woano la ɖa eye wòtsɔa amagbewo na wo ɖe wo teƒe.
So the steward took away their delicacies and the wine that they were given to drink, and gave them vegetables.
Ke Daniel ya tea ŋu sea ŋutegawo kple drɔ̃e ɖe sia ɖe ƒomevi gɔme.
Now as for these four youths, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom; and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.
At the end of the days which the king had appointed for bringing them in, the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.
19 Fia la ƒo nu kpli wo eye wòkpɔ be, ame bubuawo dometɔ aɖeke mede Daniel, Hananiya, Misael kple Azaria nu o, ale woxɔ wo wodze dɔwɔwɔ na fia la gɔme.
The king talked with them; and amongst them all was found no one like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. Therefore stood they before the king.
20 Le nunya kple gɔmesese ƒe nya ɖe sia ɖe gome, esi ŋu fia la abia nya wo le la, ekpɔna be wonyo zi ewo wu yeƒe fiaɖuƒea me tɔwo ƒe akunyawɔlawo kple bokɔwo katã.
In every matter of wisdom and understanding concerning which the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters who were in all his realm.
21 Daniel nɔ afi ma va se ɖe fia Sirus ƒe fiaɖuɖu ƒe ƒe gbãtɔ me.
Daniel continued even to the first year of King Cyrus.
