< Samuel 1 1 >
Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim–zophim, of mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite:
2 Srɔ̃ eve nɔ Elkana si, ame siwo nye Hana kple Penina. Viwo nɔ Penina si ke Hana ya medzi vi o.
And he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.
3 Elkana kple srɔ̃awo kple wo viwo zɔa mɔ ƒe sia ƒe yia Yehowa ƒe agbadɔ la me le Silo be woasubɔ Yehowa, ŋusẽkatãtɔ la, eye woasa vɔ nɛ. Yehowa ƒe nunɔla siwo nɔ subɔsubɔdɔwo wɔm ɣe ma ɣi woe nye Eli kple via eveawo; Hofni kple Finehas.
And this man went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto Yhwh of Armies in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of Yhwh, were there.
4 Ne ɣeyiɣi de be Elkana nasa vɔ la, aka vɔsalã la ƒe ɖe na srɔ̃a Penina kple via ŋutsuwo kple via nyɔnuwo katã.
And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions:
5 Ke enaa lã la ƒe akpa eve Hana ya elabena togbɔ be elɔ̃e hã la Yehowa tu eƒe vidzidɔ.
But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: But Yhwh had shut up her womb.
6 Esi wònye be Yehowa tu eƒe vidzidɔ ta la, atsusia nɔa dzigbãnyawo gblɔm ɖe eŋu be ne wòado dziku.
And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because Yhwh had shut up her womb.
7 Esia yia dzi ƒe sia ƒe. Nenye be Hana yi ɖe Yehowa ƒe aƒe me la, atsusia gblɔa nya doa dziku nɛ va se ɖe esime wòwoa avi eye wògbea nuɖuɖu.
And as he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of Yhwh, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat.
8 Srɔ̃a Elkana bianɛ be, “Hana, nya kae na nèle avi fam? Nu ka ŋuti nègbe nuɖuɖu? Nu ka ŋuti nèle nu xam ale? Ɖe nyamewu viŋutsu ewo na wò oa?”
Then said Elkanah her husband to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons?
9 Gbe ɖeka le Silo, esi woɖu nu, no nu vɔ la, Hana yi Agbadɔ la me, nunɔla Eli nɔ anyi ɖe eƒe teƒe le Yehowa ƒe Agbadɔ la ƒe mɔnu.
So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of Yhwh.
10 Hana nɔ nu xam vevie, nɔ avi fam le esime wònɔ gbe dom ɖa na Yehowa
And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto Yhwh, and wept sore.
And she vowed a vow, and said, O Yhwh of Armies, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto Yhwh all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.
12 Esime Hana nɔ gbe dom ɖa na Yehowa la, Eli nɔ ŋku lém ɖe eƒe nuyiwo ŋu.
And it came to pass, as she continued praying before Yhwh, that Eli marked her mouth.
13 Hana do gbea ɖa le eƒe dzi me, eƒe nuyiwo nɔ ʋaʋãm butubutu gake eƒe gbe meɖi wose o, eya ta Eli bu be ahae wòmu.
Now Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore Eli thought she had been drunken.
14 Ale Eli biae be, “Va se ɖe ɣe ka ɣi nàmu aha? Na wain la nakɔ le mo na wò.”
And Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from thee.
15 Hana ɖo eŋu gblɔ be, “Ao, nye aƒetɔ, nyɔnu si ƒe dzi le nu xam lae menye. Nyemenoa wain alo aha sesẽ o; ke boŋ nye dzimenuxaxa ko ɖem mele ɖe Yehowa ŋkume.
And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before Yhwh.
16 Mègabu wò dɔlanyɔnu vɔ̃ɖi o.
Count not thine handmaid for a daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto.
17 Eli gblɔ be, “Heyi le ŋutifafa me eye Israel ƒe Mawu la nana nu si nèbiae la wò!”
Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him.
18 Hana gblɔ be, “Na wò dɔla nakpɔ amenuveve le gbɔwò.” Ale wòlé eƒe mɔ tsɔ eye wòdi nane ɖu, ale be megato mo azɔ o.
And she said, Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad.
Elkana dɔ srɔ̃a Hana gbɔ eye Yehowa ɖo ŋku Hana dzi.
And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before Yhwh, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; And Yhwh remembered her.
20 Ale le ɣeyiɣi aɖe megbe la, Hana fɔ fu, dzi viŋutsu eye wòna ŋkɔe be Samuel elabena egblɔ be, “Yehowa si mee mebiae le.”
Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of Yhwh.
21 Esi ƒe trɔ la, Elkana kple eƒe ƒometɔwo katã gawɔ mɔzɔzɔ si wowɔna ƒe sia ƒe heyi ɖe Yehowa ƒe Agbadɔ la me be wòaxe eƒe adzɔgbeɖefe.
And the man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer unto Yhwh the yearly sacrifice, and his vow.
But Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before Yhwh, and there abide for ever.
23 Elkana lɔ̃ ɖe edzi hegblɔ be, “Enyo; wɔ nu sia nu si nèkpɔ be edze. Woawɔ Yehowa ƒe lɔlɔ̃nu.” Ale Hana nɔ aƒe me va se ɖe esime Samuel dzudzɔ nonono.
And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth thee good; tarry until thou have weaned him; only Yhwh establish his word. So the woman abode, and gave her son suck until she weaned him.
24 Esi wòtso no na ɖevia la, ekplɔ ɖevi la, togbɔ be metsi o hã la, etsɔ nyitsu si xɔ ƒe etɔ̃, wɔ lita blaeve-vɔ-eve kple wainlãgbalẽgolo ɖeka kpe ɖe eŋuti eye wòkplɔe va Yehowa ƒe aƒe me le Silo.
And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a skin of wine, and brought him unto the house of Yhwh in Shiloh: and the child was young.
25 Le vɔsa la megbe la, wokplɔ ɖevi la yi Eli gbɔ.
And they slew a bullock, and brought the child to Eli.
26 Hana bia Eli be, “Nye aƒetɔ, èɖo ŋku dzinyea? Nyee nye nyɔnu si tsi tsitre ɖe afi sia ɣe aɖe ɣi henɔ gbe dom ɖa na Yehowa.
And she said, Oh my lord, as thy soul liveth, my lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto Yhwh.
27 Meɖe kuku nɛ be wòana ɖevi siam eye wòna nu si mebiae lam.
For this child I prayed; And Yhwh hath given me my petition which I asked of him:
28 Eya ta mele ɖevi la tsɔm na Yehowa azɔ le eƒe agbemeŋkekewo katã me.” Ale Hana gblẽ ɖevia ɖe afi ma le Agbadɔ la me na Yehowa.
Therefore also I have lent him to Yhwh; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to Yhwh. And he worshipped Yhwh there.
