< Samuel 1 15 >
1 Gbe ɖeka la, Samuel gblɔ na Saul be, “Meɖo wò fiae ɖe Israel dzi elabena Yehowa gblɔ nam be maɖo wò Israel Fiae. Azɔ la, ele be nàɖo toe.
Samuel also said to Saul, the LORD sent me to anoint thee [to be] king over his people, over Israel: now therefore hearken thou to the voice of the words of the LORD.
2 Se si wòde na wò lae nye: ‘Meɖo ta me be mabia hlɔ̃ Amalekitɔwo le ale si womeɖe mɔ na nye dukɔ be wòato woƒe anyigba dzi esime Israelviwo tso Egipte o la ta.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I remember [that] which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid [wait] for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt.
3 Eya ta yi nàtsrɔ̃ Amalek dukɔ blibo la, ŋutsuwo, nyɔnuwo, vidzĩwo, ɖeviwo, nyiwo, alẽwo, kposɔwo kple tedziwo!’”
Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.
4 Ale Saul ƒo ƒu eƒe aʋakɔ nu ɖe Telaim. Aʋawɔlawo de ame akpe alafa eve kpe ɖe ame akpe ewo siwo tso Yuda la ŋu,
And Saul assembled the people, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah.
5 eye Saul kple eƒe amewo de xa ɖe balime ɖe Amalekitɔwo ŋu.
And Saul came to a city of Amalek, and laid wait in the valley.
6 Saul ɖo du ɖe Kenitɔwo be woado le Amalekitɔwo dome, ne menye nenema o la, woaku kple Amalekitɔwo. Eɖe nya me na wo be, “Elabena mieve Israel nu esime wògbɔna tso Egiptenyigba dzi.” Ale Kenitɔwo dzo le Amalekitɔwo dome.
And Saul said to the Kenites, Go, depart, withdraw yourselves from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them: for ye showed kindness to all the children of Israel when they came up from Egypt. So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.
7 Saul si Amalekitɔwo tso Havila yi keke Sur le Egipte ƒe ɣedzeƒe lɔƒo.
And Saul smote the Amalekites from Havilah, [until] thou comest to Shur, that [is] over against Egypt.
8 Elé Agag, Amalekitɔwo ƒe fia eye wòwu ame mamlɛawo katã.
And he took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.
9 Saul kple eƒe amewo ɖe Agag ƒe agbe eye wotsɔ alẽ kple nyi gãtɔwo, alẽvi damitɔwo kple nu sia nu si nyo na wo la na wo ɖokui. Nu siwo ŋu asixɔxɔ boo mele o la, koe wotsrɔ̃.
But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all [that was] good, and would not utterly destroy them: but every thing [that was] vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.
10 Nu sia na Yehowa gblɔ na Samuel be,
Then came the word of the LORD to Samuel, saying,
11 “Evem ŋutɔ be meɖo Saul fiae elabena egagbe toɖoɖom.” Nya siawo wɔ dɔ ɖe Samuel dzi ŋutɔ eya ta wòfa avi na Yehowa to zã blibo la me.
I repent that I have set up Saul [to be] king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried to the LORD all night.
12 Le ŋdi kanya la, eyi ɖadi Saul; ame aɖe gblɔ nɛ be, “Saul yi Karmel to dzi afi si wòtu ŋkuɖodzikpe aɖe ɖo na eɖokui eye wòtso eme yi Gilgal.”
And when Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning, it was told Samuel, saying, Saul came to Carmel, and behold, he set him up a place, and has gone about, and passed on, and gone down to Gilgal.
13 Esi Samuel va kpɔ Saul la, Saul do gbe nɛ dzidzɔtɔe hegblɔ nɛ ne, “Mewɔ nu siwo katã Yehowa ɖo nam!”
And Samuel came to Saul: and Saul said to him, Blessed [be] thou of the LORD: I have performed the commandment of the LORD.
14 Ke Samuel biae be, “Ekema nu kae nye alẽ kple nyi siwo ƒe xɔxlɔ̃ sem mele?”
And Samuel said, What [meaneth] then this bleating of the sheep in my ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?
15 Saul ʋu eme be, “Nyateƒe, nye aʋawɔlawo mewu alẽ kple nyi damiawo o, ke wotsɔ wo gbɔe be yewoasa vɔe na Yehowa, wò Mawu la ke míetsrɔ̃ nu bubu ɖe sia ɖe.”
And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice to the LORD thy God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.
16 Samuel gblɔ na Saul be, “Ɖo to nàse nu si Yehowa gblɔ nam zã si va yi la me!” Saul bia be, “Nya kae wògblɔ?”
Then Samuel said to Saul, Stay, and I will tell thee what the LORD hath said to me this night. And he said to him, Say on.
17 Samuel gblɔ nɛ be, “Togbɔ be mèbu ɖokuiwò amegãe o hã la, Mawu ɖo wò fiae ɖe Israel dzi.
And Samuel said, When thou [wast] little in thy own sight, [wast] thou not [made] the head of the tribes of Israel, and the LORD anointed thee king over Israel?
18 Ede dɔ aɖe asi na wò eye wògblɔ na wò be, ‘Yi, nàtsrɔ̃ Amalekitɔwo, nu vɔ̃ wɔlawo, keŋkeŋ.’
And the LORD sent thee on a journey, and said, Go, and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are consumed.
19 Ekema nu ka ta mèwɔ Yehowa ƒe ɖoɖo dzi o? Nu ka ta nèha nuwo eye nèwɔ nu si tututu Yehowa de se na wò be mègawɔ o?”
Why then didst thou not obey the voice of the LORD, but didst fly upon the spoil, and didst evil in the sight of the LORD?
20 Saul gasẽ nu be, “Mewɔ Yehowa ƒe gbe dzi, mewɔ nu si Yehowa ɖo nam be mawɔ, melé Fia Agag vɛ, gake mewu ame mamlɛawo katã.
And Saul said to Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.
21 Nye aʋawɔlawo bia mɔm eye meɖe mɔ na wo be woatsɔ alẽwo, nyiwo kple nu siwo dze wo ŋu la hena vɔsasa na Yehowa wò Mawu la le Gilgal.”
But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice to the LORD thy God in Gilgal.
22 Samuel ɖo eŋu be, “Ɖe wò numevɔsawo kple vɔsawo dzea Yehowa ŋu wu toɖoɖo Yehowa ƒe gbea? Toɖoɖo nyo wu vɔsa eye nusese nyo wu agbowo ƒe ami.
And Samuel said, Hath the LORD [as great] delight in burnt-offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey [is] better than sacrifice, [and] to hearken than the fat of rams.
23 Elabena aglãdzedze le abe afakaka ƒe nu vɔ̃ ene eye ɖokuiŋudzedze sɔ kple trɔ̃subɔsubɔ ƒe nu vɔ̃ɖi nyenye. Esi nègbe Yehowa ƒe nya ta la, eya hã gbe wò; mèganye fia o.”
For rebellion [is as] the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness [is as] iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from [being] king.
24 Saul lɔ̃ mlɔeba be, “Mewɔ nu vɔ̃, ɛ̃, megbe toɖoɖo wò eye nyemewɔ Yehowa ƒe ɖoɖowo dzi o elabena mevɔ̃ ameawo eye mewɔ nu si wobia.
And Saul said to Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and thy words; because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.
25 Oo, meɖe kuku, tsɔ nye nu vɔ̃ kem azɔ eye nàkplɔm yi, maɖasubɔ Yehowa.”
Now therefore, I pray thee, pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD.
26 Ke Samuel ɖo eŋu be, “Viɖe aɖeke mele eme o, esi nègbe Yehowa ƒe ɖoɖowo ta la, eya hã gbe wò; màganye Israel Fia o!”
And Samuel said to Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejected thee from being king over Israel.
27 Esi Samuel trɔ be yeadzo la, Saul lé Samuel ƒe awu ʋlaya toga eye awu la vuvu piã!
And as Samuel turned about to depart, he laid hold upon the skirt of his mantle, and it rent.
28 Samuel gblɔ na Saul be, “Èkpɔea? Yehowa vuvu Israel fiaɖuƒe la le asiwò me egbe eye wòtsɔe na hawòvi aɖe si ɖɔ ʋu wu wò.
And Samuel said to him, The LORD hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to a neighbor of thine, [that is] better than thou.
29 Ame si nye Israel ƒe ŋutikɔkɔe la, mele alakpa dam o, eye matrɔ ta me o, elabena menye amegbetɔe wònye o!”
And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he [is] not a man, that he should repent.
30 Saul gaɖe kuku be, “Mewɔ nu vɔ̃ gake de bubu ŋunye le kplɔlawo kple Israel ŋkume ko eye nàkplɔm mayi aɖasubɔ Yehowa, wò Mawu la.”
Then he said, I have sinned: [yet] honor me now, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD thy God.
31 Ale Samuel gbugbɔ yi kple Saul eye Saul subɔ Yehowa.
So Samuel turned again after Saul; and Saul worshiped the LORD.
32 Samuel gblɔ be, “Kplɔ Amalekitɔwo ƒe fia Agag vɛ nam.” Agag va do kple alɔgbɔnukoko elabena egblɔ be, “Meka ɖe edzi be woana matsi agbe azɔ!”
Then said Samuel, Bring ye hither to me Agag the king of the Amalekites. And Agag came to him delicately. And Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death is past.
33 Ke Samuel gblɔ nɛ be, “Abe ale si wò yi wu ame geɖewo eye wo dadawo zu konɔwo ene la nenema kee dawò hã azu konɔ le nyɔnuwo dome.” Ale Samuel fli Agag kakɛkakɛe le Yehowa ŋkume le Gilgal.
And Samuel said, As thy sword hath made women childless, so shall thy mother be childless among women. And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the LORD in Gilgal.
34 Samuel trɔ yi aƒe le Rama eye Saul hã trɔ yi Gibea.
Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.
35 Samuel megakpɔ Saul kpɔ gbeɖe o, ke exaa nu ɖe eta ɣe sia ɣi, eye wòve Yehowa be yeɖo Saul fiae na Israel.
And Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death: nevertheless Samuel mourned for Saul: and the LORD repented that he had made Saul king over Israel.
