< Fiawo 1 18 >

1 Le ɣeyiɣi didi aɖe megbe, le ƒe etɔ̃lia me la, Yehowa ƒe nya va na Eliya be, “Yi nàtsɔ ɖokuiwò afia Ahab eye mana tsi nadza ɖe anyigba dzi.”
And it came to pass, after many days, that, the word of Yahweh, came unto Elijah, in the third year, saying, —Go, shew thyself unto Ahab, that I may send rain upon the face of the ground.
2 Ale Eliya ɖagblɔe na Fia Ahab. Le ɣeyiɣi sia me la, dɔwuame nu sẽ ŋutɔ le Samaria.
And Elijah went, to show himself unto Ahab. Now, the famine, was severe in Samaria.
3 Ame si kpɔa Fia Ahab ƒe aƒemenyawo dzi lae nye Obadiya, ame si nye mawuvɔ̃la aɖe.
And Ahab had called for Obadiah, who was over his house. Now, Obadiah, was one who revered Yahweh, exceedingly.
4 Eva eme be fianyɔnu Yezebel dze agbagba be yeawu Yehowa ƒe nyagblɔɖilawo katã le anyigba la dzi, ke Obadiya dze agbagba ɣla wo dometɔ alafa ɖeka ɖe agado eve me. Ame blaatɔ̃ nɔ agado ɖeka me eye blaatɔ̃ hã nɔ agado evelia me. Enyi wo kple abolo kple tsi ƒuƒlu ko.
And so it came to pass, when Jezebel was cutting off the prophets of Yahweh, that Obadiah took a hundred prophets, and hid them by fifties in caves, and sustained them, with bread and water.
5 Fia Ahab gblɔ na Obadiya be, “Tsa le tɔsisi kple tɔʋu ɖe sia ɖe to le anyigba blibo la dzi ɖewohĩ miakpɔ gbe ana sɔawo kple tedziawo woaɖu be miaƒe lãwo magatsrɔ̃ na mi o.
So then Ahab said unto Obadiah, Go, and let us pass throughout the land, unto all the fountains of water, and unto all the ravines, peradventure we may find grass, and save alive horse and mule, and not have more of the beasts cut off.
6 Ale ame eveawo tsa le anyigba la dzi; Ahab tsɔ eƒe mɔ eye Obadiya hã lé eƒe mɔ tsɔ.”
So they divided to them the land, to pass through it, —Ahab, went one way, by himself, and, Obadiah, went another way, by himself.
7 Obadiya kpɔ Eliya wògbɔna egbɔ. Obadiya dze sii enumake. Ede ta agu nɛ eye wòbiae be, “Nye aƒetɔ Eliya, wò tututuea?”
And so it was, as Obadiah was on the road, that lo! Elijah, met him, —and he recognised him, and fell upon his face, and said—Now art, thou, my lord Elijah?
8 Eliya ɖo eŋu be, “Ɛ̃, nye tututue. Yi nàgblɔ na Fia la be mele afii.”
And he said to him—I, am! Go, say to thy lord: Here, is, Elijah!
9 Obadiya biae be, “Nu gbegblẽ ka mewɔ be nètsɔ wò dɔla le asi dem na Ahab be wòawu?
And he said—How have I sinned, —that, thou, art delivering thy servant into the hand of Ahab, to put me to death?
10 Meta Yehowa, wò Mawu la ƒe agbe be dukɔ alo fiaɖuƒe aɖeke meli si nye aƒetɔ medɔ ame ɖo be woadi wò o. Ne dukɔ aɖe alo fiaɖuƒe aɖe gblɔ be mèle yewo gbɔ o la, enana wokaa atam be nyateƒee yewomekpɔ wò o.
By the life of Yahweh thy God, there is no nation or kingdom, whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee, and, when they have said—Nay! he hath taken an oath of the kingdom or the nation, that no one could find thee;
11 Ke azɔ la, ègblɔ nam be mayi nye aƒetɔ gbɔ, agblɔ nɛ be, ‘Eliya le afii.’
and, now, thou, art saying, —Go say to thy lord, Here, is, Elijah;
12 Nyemenya afi si Yehowa ƒe Gbɔgbɔ akplɔ wò ayii ne medzo le gbɔwò o. Ke ne meɖagblɔe na Ahab eye meva kpɔ wò o la, awum. Ke hã la, nye, wò dɔla, mesubɔ Yehowa tso nye ɖekakpuime ke.
so shall it come to pass, as soon as, I, go from thee, that, the spirit of Yahweh, shall carry thee away—whither I know not, and so, when I go in to tell Ahab, and he cannot find thee, then will he slay me, —and yet, thy servant, hath revered Yahweh, from my youth.
13 Nye aƒetɔ, ɖe mèse nu si mewɔ esi Yezebel nɔ Yehowa ƒe nyagblɔɖilawo wum oa? Meɣla Yehowa ƒe nyagblɔɖila alafa ɖeka ɖe agado eve me, blaatɔ̃ ɖe agado ɖeka me, blaatɔ̃ ɖe agado evelia me eye mena nuɖuɖu kple tsi wo.
Was it not told my lord, what I did when Jezebel was slaying the prophets of Yahweh, —how I hid, of the prophets of Yahweh, a hundred men—by fifties—in caves, and sustained them with bread and water?
14 Ke azɔ la, ègblɔ nam be mayi nye aƒetɔ gbɔ agblɔ nɛ be, ‘Eliya le afii.’ Awum godoo!”
and yet, now, thou, art saying, Go, tell thy lord—Here, is, Elijah; and so he will slay me!
15 Eliya gblɔ nɛ be, “Meta Yehowa, Dziƒoʋakɔwo ƒe Aƒetɔ la, ame si mesubɔna la ƒe agbe be egbe matsɔ ɖokuinye afia Ahab godoo.”
Then said Elijah—By the life of Yahweh of hosts, before whom I stand, to-day, will I show myself unto him.
16 Ale Obadiya yi ɖagblɔ na Fia Ahab be Eliya va. Ale Ahab do go be yeayi aɖakpee.
So Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him, —and, Ahab, went to meet, Elijah.
17 Esi wòkpɔ Eliya la, ebiae be, “Wòe nye ema? Wò ame si le fu ɖem na Israel mahã?”
And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him, Now, art, thou, troubling Israel?
18 Eliya ɖo eŋu be, “Nyemehe fukpekpe aɖeke va Israel dzi o, ke boŋ wò kple fofowò ƒe aƒe lae elabena miegble Yehowa ƒe sededewo ɖi eye miedze Baalwo yome.
And he said—I have not troubled Israel, but, thou and the house of thy father, —in that ye have forsaken the commandments of Yahweh, and followed Baal.
19 Azɔ la, yɔ Israel katã, Baal ƒe nyagblɔɖila alafa ene blaatɔ̃ kple aƒeli ƒe nyagblɔɖila alafa ene siwo ɖua nu le Yezebel ƒe kplɔ̃ ŋu ƒo ƒu ɖe gbɔnye le Karmel to dzi.”
Now, therefore, send, gather unto me all Israel, unto Mount Carmel, —and the prophets of Baal, four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the Sacred Stem, four hundred, who do eat at the table of Jezebel.
20 Ale Ahab ɖo du ɖe Israelnyigba katã dzi eye wòna nyagblɔɖilawo ƒo ƒu ɖe Karmel to dzi.
So Ahab sent among all the sons of Israel, —and gathered the prophets unto Mount Carmel.
21 Eye Eliya do ɖe ameawo ŋgɔ eye wògblɔ na wo be, “Ɣe ka ɣie mianɔ evedome si va se ɖo? Ne Yehowae nye Mawu la, midze eyome, ke nenye Baal ye nye Mawu la, midze eyome!” Gake womeɖo nya aɖeke ŋuti nɛ o.
And Elijah drew near unto all the people, and said—How long are ye limping on the two divided opinions? If, Yahweh, be GOD, follow, him, but, if, Baal, follow, him. But the people answered him, not a word.
22 Eliya yi edzi be, “Nye ɖeka koe nye Yehowa ƒe nyagblɔɖila si susɔ, ke nyagblɔɖila alafa ene blaatɔ̃ le Baal ya si.
Then said Elijah unto the people—I, am left, Yahweh’s, only, prophet, —but, the prophets of Baal, are four hundred and fifty men.
23 Midi nyitsu eve na mí. Mina woatia ɖeka na wo ɖokui. Wonefli lã la eye woatsɔ lãkɔawo aɖo nake la dzi gake womado dzo ɖe ete o. Nye hã mafli nyitsu evelia atsɔ lãkɔawo aɖo nake la dzi eye nyemado dzo ɖe ete o.
Let there be given us, therefore, two bullocks, and let them choose for themselves one bullock, and cut it in pieces, and lay it upon the wood, but, fire, shall they not put, —then, I, will make ready the other bullock, and place upon the wood, but, fire, will I not put.
24 Ekema miayɔ miaƒe mawu la ƒe ŋkɔ eye nye hã mayɔ Yehowa ƒe ŋkɔ eye mawu si aɖo dzo ɖa la, eyae nye Mawu.” Tete ameawo katã do ɣli be, “Nya si nègblɔ la nyo.”
Then shall ye call on the name of your god, and, I, will call on the name of Yahweh, and it shall be, the God that respondeth by fire, he, is GOD. And all the people responded—Well spoken!
25 Eliya trɔ ɖe Baal ƒe nyagblɔɖilawo gbɔ eye wògblɔ na wo be, “Miawo miwɔ mia tɔ gbã, elabena miesɔ gbɔ. Mitia nyitsuawo dometɔ ɖeka, miflii da ɖe nakeawo dzi eye miyɔ miaƒe mawu la ƒe ŋkɔ gake migade dzo nakeawo te o.”
Then said Elijah to the prophets of Baal—Choose for yourselves one bullock, and make ye ready, first, for, ye, are many, —and call ye on the name of your god, but, fire, shall ye not put.
26 Wokplɔ nyitsu si wotsɔ na wo la, wowui, heflii ɖo nakeawo dzi. Tete woyɔ Baal ƒe ŋkɔ tso ŋdi va se ɖe ŋdɔ. Wodo ɣli be, “Oo Baal, tɔ na mí!” Gake ŋuɖoɖo aɖeke meva o eye ame aɖeke metɔ na wo o. Ale woɖu ɣe ƒo xlã vɔsamlekpui si woɖi.
So they took the bullock which was given them, and made ready, and called on the name of Baal—from the morning even until the noon, saying—O Baal! answer us. But them was no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped about by the altar which had been made.
27 Esi ɣe ɖo to la, Eliya nɔ alɔme ɖem le wo ŋu be, “Mido ɣli sesĩe! Nyateƒemawue wònye! Ɖewohĩ ele ŋugble dem vevie alo eƒe ŋku biã ɖe dɔ aɖe ŋu alo ezɔ mɔ. Ɖewohĩ ele alɔ̃ dɔm eye wòhiã be woanyɔe.”
And it came to pass, at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said—Cry with a loud voice, for, a god, he is, either he hath, a meditation, or an occasion to retire, or he hath, a journey, —peradventure, he, sleepeth, and must be awaked.
28 Ale wogado ɣli ɖe edzi sesĩe wu tsã, eye le woƒe kɔnyinyi nu la, wotsɔ hɛwo kple yiwo si wo ɖokui va se ɖe esime ʋu do le wo ŋu.
And they cried, with a loud voice, and cut themselves, after their custom, with swords, and with lances, —until the blood gushed out upon them.
29 Le ɣetrɔ me la, woganɔ woƒe gbedodoɖa dzi kple ŋkubiã va se ɖe fiẽvɔsaɣi gake ame aɖeke metɔ o, ame aɖeke meɖo nya ŋu na wo loo alo ɖo to wo o.
And so it was, when noon was passed, that although they prophesied until the offering up of the evening gift, yet was there no voice nor any that answered, nor any that hearkened.
30 Eliya gblɔ na ameawo katã be, “Mite va gbɔnye!” Ameawo katã ƒo ƒu ɖe eŋu esi wòdzra Yehowa ƒe vɔsamlekpui si wogbã la ɖo.
Then said Elijah unto all the people: Draw near unto, me. And all the people drew near unto, him. Then repaired he the broken-down altar of Yahweh; yea Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, —
31 Etsɔ kpe wuieve ɖe Yakob, ame si Yehowa gblɔ na be, “Wò ŋkɔe anye Israel” la ƒe viwo ƒe to wuieveawo ƒe xexlẽme nu.
unto whom the word of Yahweh came, saying—Israel, shall be thy name;
32 Etsɔ kpeawo ɖi vɔsamlekpui le Yehowa ŋkɔ me eye wòɖe do ƒo xlãe. Do la lolo ale be woate ŋu akɔ tsi lita wuiatɔ̃ ɖe eme.
and built, with the stones, an altar, in the name of Yahweh, —and he made a trench, as large as would contain two measures of seed, round about the altar;
33 Eɖo nakeawo ɖe vɔsamlekpui la dzi eye wòfli nyitsu la hetsɔ ɖo nakeawo dzi. Emegbe la egblɔ na wo be, “Miku tsi ɖe tsizɔ eneawo me eye miatrɔe akɔ ɖe vɔsalã la kple nakeawo dzi.”
and he put in order the wood, —and cut in pieces the bullock, and laid upon the wood. Then said he—Fill four pitchers with water, and pour out upon the ascending-sacrifice, and upon the wood. And they did so.
34 Egblɔ na wo be, “Migawɔe ake” eye wogawɔe. Eɖe gbe na wò be, “Miwɔe zi etɔ̃lia.” Ale wowɔe zi etɔ̃lia.
And he said—Do it the second time. And they did it the second time. And he said—Do it the third time. And they did it the third time.
35 Ale tsi la gbagba tso vɔsamlekpui la dzi eye wòyɔ do si woɖe ƒo xlã vɔsamlekpui la gɔ̃ hã.
And the water ran round about the altar, —moreover also, the trench, filled he with water.
36 Esime fiẽvɔsaɣi ɖo la, Eliya te ɖe vɔsamlekpui la ŋu eye wòdo gbe ɖa be, “Oo, Yehowa, Abraham, Isak kple Israel ƒe Mawu, ɖee fia egbe be wòe nye Mawu le Israel eye mewɔ esiawo katã le wò nya nu.
And it came to pass, at the time of the offering of the gift, that Elijah the prophet drew near, and said, O Yahweh, God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel! To-day, let it be known—That, thou, art God in Israel, and that, I, am thy servant, —and that, by thy word, have I done all these things.
37 Tɔ nam, oo Yehowa, tɔ nam. Ekema, oo Yehowa, ame siawo anyae be, wòe nye Mawu eye be wòe gbugbɔ woƒe dzi le tɔtrɔm ɖe ŋuwò.”
Answer me, O Yahweh! answer me, That this people may know, that, thou—Yahweh, art GOD, —so shalt, thou thyself, have turned their heart back again.
38 Tete Yehowa ƒe dzo ge va fia vɔsalã la, nakeawo, kpeawo kple anyigli la eye wòno tsi wòvɔ le do si woɖe ƒo xlã vɔsamlekpui la me ƒiaƒiaƒia!
Then fell fire from Yahweh, and consumed the ascending-sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, —even the water that was in the trench, it licked up.
39 Esi ameawo katã kpɔ esia la, wotsyɔ mo anyi hedo ɣli be, “Yehowae nye Mawu! Yehowae nye Mawu vavã!”
And, when all the people saw it, they fell upon their faces, —and said, Yahweh, he, is GOD, Yahweh, he, is GOD.
40 Tete Eliya ɖe gbe na wo be, “Milé Baal ƒe nyagblɔɖilawo. Migana wo dometɔ aɖeke nasi adzo o!” Ale wolé wo eye Eliya na wokplɔ wo ɖi agae yi ɖe Kison balime eye wòwu wo le afi ma.
And Elijah said unto them—Seize ye the prophets of Baal—let not, a man, of them escape. So they seized them. And Elijah took them down unto the ravine of Kishon, and slaughtered them there.
41 Azɔ la, Eliya gblɔ na Fia Ahab be, “Yi nàdi nu nyui aɖe nàɖu elabena tsi gã aɖe ɖo gbɔna.”
Then said Elijah unto Ahab, Go up, eat and drink, —for there is a sound of a downpour of rain.
42 Ale Ahab ɖo kplɔ̃ gã aɖe, ke Eliya lia Karmel to la, dze klo eye wòtsɔ eƒe ta de eƒe klowo dome.
So Ahab went up, to eat and to drink, —but, Elijah, went up to the top of Carmel, and bowed himself to the earth, and put his face between his knees.
43 Egblɔ na eƒe subɔla be, “Yi nàkpɔ atsiaƒu la gbɔ lɔƒo ɖa.” Subɔla la de gbɔ va gblɔ na Eliya be, “Nyemekpɔ naneke o.” Eliya gblɔ nɛ be, “Yi, nàgayi, nàgayi zi adre!”
Then said he unto his young man—Go up, I pray thee, and look about in the direction of the sea. So he went up, and looked about, and said—There is, nothing whatever. Then said he—Go again, seven times.
44 Mlɔeba la, esi subɔla la yi zi adrelia la, egblɔ na Eliya be, “Mekpɔ lilikpo aɖe wòlolo abe ŋutsu ƒe asi ene. Enɔ hohom tso atsiaƒu la me.” Eliya do ɣli enumake be, “Ɖe abla nàyi Ahab gbɔ, gblɔ nɛ be wòage ɖe eƒe tasiaɖam me eye wòaɖi tso to la dzi kaba, ne menye nenema o la, tsidzadza ava xe mɔ nɛ!”
And it came to pass, at the seventh time, that he said, Lo! a little cloud, like a man’s hand coming up from the sea. Then he said—Go up, say unto Ahab—Harness, and get thee down, lest the rain shut thee in.
45 Azɔ la, lilikpowo va xe dziŋgɔli la ŋkume litii eye ahomya sesẽ aɖe he tsidzadza gã aɖe vɛ. Ahab dzo enumake yi Yezreel.
And it came to pass, meanwhile, that, the heavens, had enshrouded themselves with clouds and wind, and there came a great rain, and Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel;
46 Yehowa ƒe ŋusẽ va Eliya dzi ale be, esi wòbla eƒe ali dzi nyuie la, ete ŋu ƒu du nɔ ŋgɔ na Ahab ƒe tasiaɖam va se ɖe Yezreel ƒe agbo nu.
but, the hand of Yahweh, came upon Elijah, so he girded his loins, —and ran before Ahab, until thou enterest Jezreel.
