Jaakobuse 3
1 Ärgu hakaku paljud teist õpetajaks, mu vennad: te teate, et meie üle mõistetakse kohut karmimalt.
Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.
2 Me kõik eksime paljus. Kes kõnes ei eksi, on täiuslik mees ja suudab talitseda ka kogu ihu.
For we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to bridle his entire body as well.
3 Kui me paneme hobusele suitsed suhu, et ta oleks meile kuulekas, siis me juhime kogu hobust.
Behold, we put bits into the mouths of horses so that they will obey us, and we guide their entire bodies.
4 Või vaata laevu: kuigi nad on väga suured ja tugevate tuulte ajada, juhitakse neid väikese tüüriga just sinna, kuhu tüürimees tahab.
Or take ships for example, though they are so large and driven by fierce winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the inclination of the pilot directs.
5 Nii on ka keel väike ihuliige, aga kiitleb suurte asjade üle. Vaata kui väike tulesäde süütab suure metsa!
In the same way, the tongue is a small member, yet it makes great boasts. Consider how great a forest a little fire kindles.
6 Ka keel on tuli. Keel on otsekui ebaõigluse maailm meie liikmete seas, mis rüvetab kogu keha. Ta süütab põlema eluratta ja on ise süüdatud põrgust. (Geenna g1067)
And the tongue is a fire. The tongue is placed among our members as a world of unrighteousness, staining the entire body, setting the course of life on fire, and itself being set on fire by hell. (Geenna g1067)
7 Sest inimkond taltsutab igat liiki loomi, linde, roomajaid ja mereelukaid, ja on juba taltsutanud,
Every species of beast, bird, reptile, and sea creature can be tamed and has been tamed by man,
8 kuid keelt ei suuda taltsutada ükski inimene. See on rahutu ja tige, täis surmavat mürki.
but no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
9 Sellega me kiidame Issandat ja Isa, ning sellega sajatame inimesi, kes on loodud Jumala sarnasteks.
With it we bless God our Father, and with it we curse men, who are made in God's likeness.
10 Samast suust tuleb kiitus ja sajatus. Nii ei tohiks olla, mu vennad ja õed!
Out of the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, this ought not to be so.
11 Ega allikas anna samast lättest magedat ja kibedat vett?
Does a spring pour out fresh water and bitter water from the same opening?
12 Ei või ju viigipuu, mu vennad ja õed, kanda oliive ega viinapuu viigimarju? Samuti ei saa soolasest allikast magedat vett.
Can a fig tree, my brothers, produce olives, or a grapevine figs? In the same way, no spring can produce both salt water and fresh water.
13 Kes teie seast on tark ja mõistev? Las ta näitab hea eluviisiga oma tegusid targas tasaduses.
Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct he should show that his works are done with the gentleness that comes from wisdom.
14 Aga kui teie südames on tigedat riiakust ja isekat ambitsiooni, siis ärge hoobelge ega valetage tõe vastu.
But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast or deny the truth.
15 See ei ole ülalt pärit tarkus, vaid on maine, ilmalik, deemonlik.
This is not the wisdom that comes down from above; rather, it is earthly, unspiritual, and demonic.
16 Sest kus on kadedust ja isekust, seal on korralagedust ja kõiksugu halba.
For where there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there is disorder and every evil practice.
17 Kuid ülalt pärinev tarkus on esmalt puhas, siis rahuarmastav, osavõttev, kuulekas, täis halastust ja häid vilju, eelarvamusteta, teeskluseta.
But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, easily entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial, and unhypocritical.
18 Rahutegijad, kes külvavad rahus, lõikavad õiguse vilja.
And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
