1 Paŭlo, servisto de Dio kaj apostolo de Jesuo Kristo, laŭ la fido de la elektitoj de Dio, kaj laŭ la scio de la vero, kiu estas laŭ pieco,
Paul, bondman of God, and apostle of Jesus Christ according to [the] faith of God's elect, and knowledge of [the] truth which [is] according to piety;
2 kun espero al eterna vivo, kiun la senmensoga Dio promesis antaŭ la tempoj eternaj, (aiōnios g166)
in [the] hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before the ages of time, (aiōnios g166)
3 sed ĝustatempe Li elmontris Sian vorton en la anonco, kiu estas al mi konfidita konforme al la ordono de Dio, nia Savanto;
but has manifested in its own due season his word, in [the] proclamation with which I have been entrusted, according to [the] commandment of our Saviour God;
4 al Tito, mia vera filo laŭ komuna fido: Graco kaj paco de Dio, la Patro, kaj de Kristo Jesuo, nia Savanto.
to Titus, my own child according to [the] faith common [to us]: Grace and peace from God [the] Father, and Christ Jesus our Saviour.
5 Pro tio mi lasis vin en Kreto, ke vi aranĝu la aferojn mankohavajn kaj starigu presbiterojn en ĉiu urbo, kiel mi ordonis al vi;
For this cause I left thee in Crete, that thou mightest go on to set right what remained [unordered], and establish elders in each city, as I had ordered thee:
6 se iu troviĝas neriproĉebla, edzo de unu edzino, kies infanoj estas kredantoj, kaj ne estas akuzitaj pri diboĉo, nek ribelemaj.
if any one be free from all charge [against him], husband of one wife, having believing children not accused of excess or unruly.
7 Ĉar episkopo devas esti sen riproĉo, kiel administranto de Dio; ne obstina, ne kolerema, ne drinkema, ne malpacema, ne avidanta malhonoran gajnon;
For the overseer must be free from all charge [against him] as God's steward; not headstrong, not passionate, not disorderly through wine, not a striker, not seeking gain by base means;
8 sed gastama, bonamanta, sobra, justa, sankta, sinreganta,
but hospitable, a lover of goodness, discreet, just, pious, temperate,
9 tenanta la fidelan vorton, kiu estas laŭ la instruado, por ke li povu admoni pri la sana doktrino kaj ankaŭ refuti la kontraŭdirantojn.
clinging to the faithful word according to the doctrine taught, that he may be able both to encourage with sound teaching and refute gainsayers.
10 Ĉar ekzistas multaj homoj ribelemaj, vantaj parolantoj kaj trompistoj, precipe tiuj el la cirkumcido,
For there are many and disorderly vain speakers and deceivers of people's minds, specially those of [the] circumcision,
11 kies buŝoj devas esti fermitaj; homoj, kiuj renversas tutajn domojn, instruantaj nekonvenaĵojn por malhonora gajno.
who must have their mouths stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which ought not [to be taught] for the sake of base gain.
12 Unu el ili, profeto samnacia, diris: La Kretanoj ĉiam estas mensogantoj, malbonaj bestoj, mallaboremaj manĝeguloj.
One of themselves, a prophet of their own, has said, Cretans are always liars, evil wild beasts, lazy gluttons.
13 Tiu atesto estas vera. Tial akre riproĉu ilin, por ke ili estu sanaj en la fido,
This testimony is true; for which cause rebuke them severely, that they may be sound in the faith,
14 ne atentante Judajn fabelojn, kaj ordonojn de tiuj homoj, kiuj deturnas sin de la vero.
not turning [their] minds to Jewish fables and commandments of men turning away from the truth.
15 Ĉe la puraj, ĉio estas pura; sed ĉe la malpuraj kaj nekredantaj, nenio estas pura; sed ilia menso kaj ilia konscienco estas malpurigitaj.
All things [are] pure to the pure; but to the defiled and unbelieving nothing [is] pure; but both their mind and their conscience are defiled.
16 Ili pretendas koni Dion; sed per siaj agoj ili malkonfesas Lin, estante abomenaj kaj malobeemaj kaj por ĉiu bona faro senvaloraj.
They profess to know God, but in works deny [him], being abominable, and disobedient, and found worthless as to every good work.
