1 Kanto de suprenirado. Al la Eternulo mi vokis en mia sufero, Kaj Li aŭskultis min.

“A song of the degrees.” Unto the Lord, when I was in distress, did I call, and he hath answered me.

2 Ho Eternulo, savu mian animon de mensoga parolo, De falsa lango.

O Lord, deliver my soul from lips of falsehood, and from a tongue of deceit.

3 Kion Li donos al vi, Kaj kion Li alportos al vi, ho falsa lango?

What will [God] give unto thee? or what will he add unto thee, thou tongue of deceit?

4 Akrajn sagojn de fortulo Kun karboj genistaj.

Sharpened arrows of the mighty, with coals of the broom-bush.

5 Ve al mi, ke mi gastas en Meŝeĥ, Ke mi loĝas inter la tendoj de Kedar!

Woe is me, that I sojourn in Meshech, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar!

6 Tro longe loĝis mia animo Inter malamantoj de paco.

Too long for herself hath my soul dwelt with him that hateth peace.

7 Mi estas pacema; Sed kiam mi ekparolas, ili komencas militon.

I am for peace; but when I speak, they are for war.
