1 La saĝo konstruis sian domon, Ĉarpentis ĝiajn sep kolonojn.
Wisdom, hath builded her house, hath hewn out her seven pillars;
2 Ĝi buĉis sian bruton, verŝis sian vinon, Kaj pretigis sian tablon.
hath slaughtered her beasts, hath mingled her wine, hath even set in order her table;
3 Ĝi sendis siajn servantinojn, Por anonci sur la pintoj de la altaĵoj de la urbo:
hath sent forth her maidens, She crieth aloud, upon the tops of the heights of the city:
4 Kiu estas naiva, tiu sin turnu ĉi tien! Al la senspritulo ĝi diris:
Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither, as for him that lacketh sense, she saith to him—
5 Venu, manĝu de mia pano, Kaj trinku el la vino, kiun mi enverŝis.
Come, feed on my food, and drink of the wine I have mingled;
6 Forlasu la malsaĝaĵon, kaj vivu; Kaj iru laŭ la vojo de la prudento.
Forsake the simple ones, and live, and advance in the way of understanding.
7 Kiu instruas blasfemanton, tiu prenas sur sin malhonoron; Kaj kiu penas ĝustigi malpiulon, tiu estas mokata.
He that rebuketh a scoffer, getteth to himself contempt, and, he that reproveth a lawless man, [getteth to himself] his shame.
8 Ne penu ĝustigi blasfemanton, ke li vin ne malamu: Penu ĝustigi saĝulon, kaj li vin amos.
Do not reprove a scoffer, lest he hate thee, Reprove a wise man, and he will love thee.
9 Donu al saĝulo, kaj li ankoraŭ pli saĝiĝos; Instruu justulon, kaj li lernos pli.
Give to a wise man, and he will be wiser still, Inform a righteous man, and he will increase learning.
10 La komenco de la saĝo estas timo antaŭ la Eternulo; Kaj ekkono pri la Sanktulo estas prudento.
The beginning of wisdom, is the reverence of Yahweh, and, the knowledge of the Holy, is understanding;
11 Ĉar per mi plimultiĝos viaj tagoj, Kaj aldoniĝos al vi jaroj da vivo.
For, by me, shall be multiplied—thy days, and there be added to thee—the years of life.
12 Se vi saĝiĝis, vi saĝiĝis por vi; Kaj se vi blasfemas, vi sola suferos.
If thou art wise, thou art wise for thyself, but, if thou scoff, alone, shalt thou bear it.
13 Virino malsaĝa, bruema, Sensprita, kaj nenion scianta,
The woman Stupidity, is boisterous, so simple that she knoweth not what she would do;
14 Sidas ĉe la pordo de sia domo, Sur seĝo sur altaĵo de la urbo,
So she sitteth at the entrance of her house, upon a seat, in the heights of the city;
15 Por voki la pasantojn, Kiuj iras sian ĝustan vojon:
To invite them who pass by the way, who are going straight on in their paths:
16 Kiu estas naiva, tiu sin turnu ĉi tien! Kaj al la senspritulo ŝi diris:
Whoso is simple, let him turn aside hither, and, as for him that lacketh sense, she saith to him:
17 Akvoj ŝtelitaj estas dolĉaj, Kaj pano kaŝita estas agrabla.
Stolen waters, will be sweet, —and a secret meal, will be pleasant;
