Sentencoj 6
1 Mia filo! se vi garantiis por via proksimulo Kaj donis vian manon por aliulo,
My son, if thou hast become surety for another, If thou hast stricken hands for another,
2 Tiam vi enretiĝis per la vortoj de via buŝo, Kaptiĝis per la vortoj de via buŝo.
If thou hast become ensnared by the words of thy mouth, If thou hast been caught by the words of thy mouth,
3 Tiam, mia filo, agu tiel kaj saviĝu, Ĉar vi falis en la mano de via proksimulo: Iru, vigliĝu, kaj petegu vian proksimulon;
Do this now, my son, and rescue thyself, —Since thou hast fallen into the hands of thy neighbor, —Go, prostrate thyself, and be urgent with thy neighbor!
4 Ne lasu viajn okulojn dormi Kaj viajn palpebrojn dormeti;
Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids;
5 Savu vin, kiel gazelo, el la mano, Kaj kiel birdo el la mano de la birdokaptisto.
Rescue thyself, as a roe from the hand, And as a bird from the hand of the fowler.
6 Iru al la formiko, vi maldiligentulo; Rigardu ĝian agadon, kaj saĝiĝu.
Go to the ant, O sluggard! Consider her ways, and be wise!
7 Kvankam ĝi ne havas estron, Nek kontrolanton, nek reganton,
She hath no governor, Nor overseer, nor ruler;
8 Ĝi pretigas en la somero sian panon, Ĝi kolektas dum la rikolto sian manĝon.
Yet she prepareth in the summer her food, She gathereth in the harvest her meat.
9 Ĝis kiam, maldiligentulo, vi kuŝos? Kiam vi leviĝos de via dormo?
How long wilt thou lie in bed, O sluggard? When wilt thou arise from thy sleep?
10 Iom da dormo, iom da dormeto, Iom da kunmeto de la manoj por kuŝado;
“A little sleep, —a little slumber, —A little folding of the hands to rest:”
11 Kaj venos via malriĉeco kiel rabisto, Kaj via senhaveco kiel viro armita.
So shall thy poverty come upon thee like a robber, Yea, thy want, as an armed man!
12 Homo sentaŭga, homo malbonfarema, Iras kun buŝo malica,
A worthless wretch is the unrighteous man, Who walketh with a deceitful mouth;
13 Donas signojn per la okuloj, aludas per siaj piedoj, Komprenigas per siaj fingroj;
Who winketh with his eyes, Speaketh with his feet, And teacheth with his fingers.
14 Perverseco estas en lia koro, li intencas malbonon; En ĉiu tempo li semas malpacon.
Fraud is in his heart; He deviseth mischief continually; He scattereth contentions.
15 Tial subite venos lia pereo; Li estos rompita subite, kaj neniu lin sanigos.
Therefore shall calamity come upon him suddenly; In a moment shall he be destroyed, and that without remedy;
16 Jen estas ses aferoj, kiujn la Eternulo malamas, Kaj sep, kiujn Li abomenegas.
These six things doth the LORD hate; Yea, seven are an abomination to him:
17 Arogantaj okuloj, mensogema lango, Kaj manoj, kiuj verŝas senkulpan sangon,
Lofty eyes, a false tongue, And hands which shed innocent blood;
18 Koro, kiu preparas malbonfarajn intencojn, Piedoj, kiuj rapidas kuri al malbono,
A heart that contriveth wicked devices; Feet that are swift in running to mischief,
19 Falsa atestanto, kiu elspiras mensogojn; Kaj tiu, kiu semas malpacon inter fratoj.
A false witness, that uttereth lies, And him that soweth discord among brethren.
20 Konservu, mia filo, la ordonon de via patro, Kaj ne forĵetu la instruon de via patrino.
Keep, O my son! the commandment of thy father, And forsake not the precepts of thy mother!
21 Ligu ilin por ĉiam al via koro, Volvu ilin sur vian kolon.
Bind them continually to thy heart, Tie them around thy neck!
22 Kiam vi iros, ili gvidos vin; Kiam vi kuŝiĝos, ili vin gardos; Kaj kiam vi vekiĝos, ili parolos kun vi.
When thou goest forth, they shall guide thee; When thou sleepest, they shall watch over thee; And, when thou awakest, they shall talk with thee.
23 Ĉar moralordono estas lumingo, kaj instruo estas lumo, Kaj edifaj predikoj estas vojo de vivo,
For the commandment is a lamp, and instruction a light; Yea, the rebukes of correction lead to life.
24 Por gardi vin kontraŭ malbona virino, Kontraŭ glata lango de fremdulino.
They shall guard thee from the evil woman, From the smooth tongue of the unchaste woman.
25 Ne deziregu en via koro ŝian belecon, Kaj ne kaptiĝu per ŝiaj palpebroj.
Desire not her beauty in thy heart, Nor let her catch thee with her eyelids;
26 Ĉar la kosto de publikulino estas nur unu pano; Sed fremda edzino forkaptas la grandvaloran animon.
For by a harlot a man is brought to a morsel of bread, And the adulteress layeth snares for the precious life.
27 Ĉu iu povas teni fajron en sia sino tiel, Ke liaj vestoj ne brulu?
Can a man take fire into his bosom, And his clothes not be burned?
28 Ĉu iu povas marŝi sur ardantaj karboj, Ne bruligante siajn piedojn?
Can one walk upon burning coals, And his feet not be scorched?
29 Tiel ankaŭ estas kun tiu, kiu venas al la edzino de sia proksimulo; Neniu, kiu ŝin ektuŝas, restas sen puno.
So is it with him who goeth in to his neighbor's wife; Whoever toucheth her shall not go unpunished.
30 Oni ne faras grandan honton al ŝtelanto, Se li ŝtelas por sin satigi, kiam li malsatas;
Men do not overlook a thief, Though he steal to satisfy his appetite, when he is hungry;
31 Kaj kiam oni lin kaptas, li pagas sepoble; La tutan havon de sia domo li fordonas.
If found, he must repay sevenfold, And give up all the substance of his house.
32 Sed kiu adultas kun virino, tiu estas sensaĝa; Tiu, kiu faras tion, pereigas sian animon;
Whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding; He that doeth it destroyeth himself;
33 Batojn kaj malhonoron li ricevas, Kaj lia honto ne elviŝiĝas;
Blows and dishonor shall he get, And his reproach shall not be wiped away.
34 Ĉar furiozas la ĵaluzo de la edzo; Kaj li ne indulgas en la tempo de la venĝo.
For jealousy is the fury of a man; He will not spare in the day of vengeance;
35 Li rigardas nenian kompenson, Kaj li ne akceptas, se vi volas eĉ multe donaci.
And he will not pay regard to any ransom, Nor be content, though thou offer many gifts.
