Sentencoj 22
1 Nomo bona estas pli preferinda, ol granda riĉeco; Kaj bona estimo, ol arĝento kaj oro.
A name is chosen rather than much wealth, Than silver and than gold — good grace.
2 Riĉulo kaj malriĉulo renkontiĝas: Ilin ambaŭ kreis la Eternulo.
Rich and poor have met together, The Maker of them all [is] Jehovah.
3 Prudentulo antaŭvidas malbonon, kaj kaŝiĝas; Sed naivuloj antaŭenpaŝas, kaj difektiĝas.
The prudent hath seen the evil, and is hidden, And the simple have passed on, and are punished.
4 Por humileco kaj timo antaŭ la Eternulo Oni ricevas riĉecon kaj honoron kaj vivon.
The end of humility [is] the fear of Jehovah, Riches, and honour, and life.
5 Dornoj kaj retoj estas sur la vojo de malbonagulo; Kiu gardas sian animon, tiu malproksimiĝas de ili.
Thorns — snares [are] in the way of the perverse, Whoso is keeping his soul is far from them.
6 Instruu knabon konforme al lia vojo, Kaj eĉ maljuniĝinte li ne dekliniĝos de ĝi.
Give instruction to a youth about his way, Even when he is old he turneth not from it.
7 Riĉulo regas super malriĉuloj, Kaj kiu prunteprenas, tiu estas sklavo de la pruntedoninto.
The rich over the poor ruleth, And a servant [is] the borrower to the lender.
8 Kiu semas maljustaĵon, tiu rikoltos suferon, Kaj la kano de lia krueleco rompiĝos.
Whoso is sowing perverseness reapeth sorrow, And the rod of his anger weareth out.
9 Bonokululo estos benata; Ĉar li donas el sia pano al malriĉulo.
The good of eye — he is blessed, For he hath given of his bread to the poor.
10 Forpelu blasfemulon, kaj foriros malpaco, Kaj ĉesiĝos malkonsento kaj ofendo.
Cast out a scorner — and contention goeth out, And strife and shame cease.
11 Kiu amas purecon de koro kaj agrable parolas, Al tiu la reĝo estas amiko.
Whoso is loving cleanness of heart, Grace [are] his lips, a king [is] his friend.
12 La okuloj de la Eternulo gardas la prudenton; Sed la vortojn de maliculo Li renversas.
The eyes of Jehovah have kept knowledge, And He overthroweth the words of the treacherous.
13 Mallaborulo diras: Leono estas ekstere, Mi povus esti mortigita meze de la strato.
The slothful hath said, 'A lion [is] without, In the midst of the broad places I am slain.'
14 La buŝo de malĉastulino estas profunda foso; Kiun la Eternulo koleras, tiu tien enfalas.
A deep pit [is] the mouth of strange women, The abhorred of Jehovah falleth there.
15 Malsaĝeco forte sidas en la koro de knabo; Sed vergo punanta ĝin elpelas el ĝi.
Folly is bound up in the heart of a youth, The rod of chastisement putteth it far from him.
16 Kiu premas malriĉulon, por pligrandigi sian riĉecon, Tiu donas al riĉulo, por ke li malriĉiĝu.
He is oppressing the poor to multiply to him, He is giving to the rich — only to want.
17 Klinu vian orelon kaj aŭskultu vortojn de saĝuloj, Kaj direktu vian koron al mia instruo;
Incline thine ear, and hear words of the wise, And thy heart set to my knowledge,
18 Ĉar ili estos agrablaj, se vi gardos ilin en via interno; Ili estos ĉiuj pretaj sur viaj lipoj.
For they are pleasant when thou dost keep them in thy heart, They are prepared together for thy lips.
19 Ke al la Eternulo estu via fido, Tion mi instruis al vi hodiaŭ.
That thy trust may be in Jehovah, I caused thee to know to-day, even thou.
20 Ĉu mi ne skribis al vi tion trifoje Kun konsiloj kaj scio,
Have I not written to thee three times With counsels and knowledge?
21 Por sciigi al vi la ĝustecon de la paroloj de vero, Por ke vi transdonu la parolojn de vero al tiuj, kiuj vin sendis?
To cause thee to know the certainty of sayings of truth, To return sayings of truth to those sending thee.
22 Ne prirabu malriĉulon, pro tio, ke li estas malriĉa; Kaj ne premu senhavulon ĉe la pordego;
Rob not the poor because he [is] poor, And bruise not the afflicted in the gate.
23 Ĉar la Eternulo defendos ilian aferon Kaj dispremos iliajn premantojn.
For Jehovah pleadeth their cause, And hath spoiled the soul of their spoilers.
24 Ne amikiĝu kun homo kolerema, Kaj ne komunikiĝu kun homo flamiĝema;
Shew not thyself friendly with an angry man, And with a man of fury go not in,
25 Ke vi ne lernu lian vojon Kaj ne ricevu reton por via animo.
Lest thou learn his paths, And have received a snare to thy soul.
26 Ne estu inter tiuj, kiuj firmigas per mano, Kiuj garantias por ŝuldoj.
Be not thou among those striking hands, Among sureties [for] burdens.
27 Se vi ne havos per kio pagi, Oni ja prenos vian litaĵon de sub vi.
If thou hast nothing to pay, Why doth he take thy bed from under thee?
28 Ne forŝovu la antikvajn limojn, Kiujn faris viaj patroj.
Remove not a border of olden times, That thy fathers have made.
29 Se vi vidas homon lertan en sia profesio, li staros antaŭ reĝoj; Li ne staros antaŭ maleminentuloj.
Hast thou seen a man speedy in his business? Before kings he doth station himself, He stations not himself before obscure men!
