Sentencoj 19
1 Pli bona estas malriĉulo, kiu iras en sia senkulpeco, Ol homo, kiu estas malicbuŝulo kaj malsaĝulo.
Better is the poor man who walketh in his integrity, Than he who is of false lips and a fool.
2 Vivo sen prudento ne estas bona; Kaj kiu tro rapidas, tiu maltrafas la vojon.
Moreover, that the soul be without knowledge is not good, And he that hasteth with is feet stumbleth.
3 Malsaĝeco de homo erarigas lian vojon, Kaj lia koro koleras la Eternulon.
The folly of man destroyeth his way, And then his heart fretteth against the LORD.
4 Riĉeco donas multon da amikoj; Sed malriĉulo estas forlasata de sia amiko.
Wealth maketh many friends; But the poor is separated from his neighbor.
5 Falsa atestanto ne restos sen puno; Kaj kiu elspiras mensogojn, tiu ne saviĝos.
A false witness shall not be unpunished, And he that speaketh lies shall not escape.
6 Multaj serĉas favoron de malavarulo; Kaj ĉiu estas amiko de homo, kiu donas donacojn.
Many are they who caress the noble, And every one is the friend of him who giveth gifts.
7 Ĉiuj fratoj de malriĉulo lin malamas; Tiom pli malproksimiĝas de li liaj amikoj! Li havas esperon pri vortoj, kiuj ne estos plenumitaj.
All the brethren of the poor man hate him; How much more do his friends go far from him! He runneth after their words, —they are gone!
8 Kiu akiras prudenton, tiu amas sian animon; Kiu gardas saĝon, tiu trovas bonon.
He that getteth wisdom loveth himself; He that keepeth understanding shall find good.
9 Falsa atestanto ne restos sen puno; Kaj kiu elspiras mensogojn, tiu pereos.
A false witness shall not be unpunished, And he that speaketh lies shall perish.
10 Al malsaĝulo ne konvenas agrablaĵo; Ankoraŭ malpli konvenas al sklavo regi super princoj.
Luxury is not seemly for a fool; Much less should a servant have rule over princes.
11 Saĝo de homo faras lin pacienca; Kaj gloro por li estas pardoni pekon.
A man of understanding is slow to anger; Yea, it is his glory to pass over an offence.
12 Kiel kriego de leono estas la kolero de reĝo; Kaj lia favoro estas kiel roso sur herbo.
The wrath of a king is like the roaring of a lion; But his favor, like dew upon the grass.
13 Pereo por sia patro estas malsaĝa filo; Kaj malpacema edzino estas kiel konstanta gutado.
A foolish son is a calamity to his father, And the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.
14 Domo kaj havo estas heredataj post gepatroj; Sed saĝa edzino estas de la Eternulo.
Houses and riches are an inheritance from fathers; But a prudent wife is from the LORD.
15 Mallaboremeco enigas en profundan dormon, Kaj animo maldiligenta suferos malsaton.
Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep, And the idle person shall suffer hunger.
16 Kiu konservas moralordonon, tiu konservas sian animon; Sed kiu ne atentas Lian vojon, tiu mortos.
He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his life; But he that neglecteth his ways shall die.
17 Kiu kompatas malriĉulon, tiu pruntedonas al la Eternulo, Kaj Tiu redonos al li por lia bonfaro.
He who hath pity on the poor lendeth to the LORD, And that which he giveth will he repay him.
18 Punu vian filon, dum ekzistas espero, Sed via koro ne deziru lian pereon.
Chasten thy son because there is hope, But let not thy soul desire to slay him.
19 Koleranto devas esti punata; Ĉar se vi lin indulgos, li fariĝos ankoraŭ pli kolerema.
A man of great wrath will suffer punishment; For if thou deliver him, yet must thou do it again.
20 Aŭskultu konsilon kaj akceptu admonon, Por ke vi poste estu saĝa.
Listen to counsel and receive instruction, That thou mayst be wise in thy latter years.
21 Multaj estas la intencoj en la koro de homo, Sed la decido de la Eternulo restas fortike.
Many are the devices in the heart of a man; But the purpose of the LORD, that shall stand.
22 Ornamo estas por la homo lia bonfaro; Kaj pli bona estas malriĉulo, ol homo mensogema.
The charm of a man is his kindness; And better is a poor man than a liar.
23 Timo antaŭ la Eternulo kondukas al vivo, Al sateco, kaj al evito de malbono.
The fear of the LORD tendeth to life, And he that hath it shall abide satisfied; He shall not be visited with evil.
24 Mallaboremulo metas sian manon en la poton, Kaj eĉ al sia buŝo li ĝin ne relevas.
The slothful man dippeth his hand into the dish: He doth not bring it back even to his mouth.
25 Se vi batos blasfemanton, sensciulo fariĝos atenta; Se oni punas saĝulon, li komprenas la instruon.
Strike the scoffer, and the simple will become prudent; Reprove a man of understanding, and he will discern knowledge.
26 Kiu ruinigas patron kaj forpelas patrinon, Tiu estas filo hontinda kaj malbeninda.
The son that causeth shame and disgrace doeth violence to his father, And chaseth away his mother.
27 Ĉesu, mia filo, aŭskulti admonon Kaj tamen dekliniĝi de la vortoj de la instruo.
Cease, my son, to listen to the instruction That causeth thee to wander from the words of knowledge!
28 Fripona atestanto mokas juĝon; Kaj la buŝo de malvirtuloj englutas maljustaĵon.
A worthless witness scoffeth at justice, And the mouth of the wicked swalloweth down iniquity.
29 La blasfemantojn atendas punoj, Kaj batoj la dorson de malsaĝuloj.
Punishments are prepared for scoffers, And stripes for the back of fools.
