Sentencoj 13
1 Saĝa filo lernas de la patro; Sed mokanto ne aŭskultas moralinstruon.
A wise son is instructed of his father; but a scorner heareth not rebuke.
2 La frukto de la buŝo donas al homo bonan manĝon; Sed la deziro de krimuloj estas perforto.
A man shall eat good from the fruit of his mouth; but the desire of the faithless is violence.
3 Kiu gardas sian buŝon, tiu gardas sian animon; Kiu tro malfermas sian buŝon, tiu pereas.
He that guardeth his mouth keepeth his life; but for him that openeth wide his lips there shall be ruin.
4 La animo de maldiligentulo deziras, kaj ne ricevas; Sed la animo de diligentuloj satiĝas.
The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing; but the soul of the diligent shall be abundantly gratified.
5 Vorton malveran virtulo malamas; Sed malvirtulo agas abomene kaj venas al honto.
A righteous man hateth lying; but a wicked man behaveth vilely and shamefully.
6 La virto gardas tiun, kiu iras ĝustan vojon; Sed la malvirto pereigas pekulon.
Righteousness guardeth him that is upright in the way; but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.
7 Unu ŝajnigas sin riĉa, havante nenion; Alia ŝajnigas sin malriĉa, havante grandan riĉecon.
There is that pretendeth himself rich, yet hath nothing; there is that pretendeth himself poor, yet hath great wealth.
8 Per sia riĉeco homo savas sian animon; Sed malriĉulo ne aŭskultas atentigon.
The ransom of a man's life are his riches; but the poor heareth no threatening.
9 La lumo de virtuloj brilegas; Sed la lumilo de malvirtuloj estingiĝos.
The light of the righteous rejoiceth; but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
10 Nur de malhumileco venas malpaco; Sed la akceptantaj konsilojn havas saĝon.
By pride cometh only contention; but with the well-advised is wisdom.
11 Riĉeco rapide akirita malgrandiĝas; Sed kion oni kolektas per laboro, tio multiĝas.
Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished; but he that gathereth little by little shall increase.
12 Espero prokrastata dolorigas la koron; Sed plenumita deziro estas arbo de vivo.
Hope deferred maketh the heart sick; but desire fulfilled is a tree of life.
13 Kiu malŝatas diron, tiu malutilas al si mem; Sed respektanta ordonon estos rekompencita.
Whoso despiseth the word shall suffer thereby; but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.
14 Instruo de saĝulo estas fonto de vivo, Por evitigi la retojn de la morto.
The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
15 Bona prudento plaĉigas; Sed la vojo de perfiduloj estas malglata.
Good understanding giveth grace; but the way of the faithless is harsh.
16 Ĉiu prudentulo agas konscie; Sed malsaĝulo elmontras malsaĝecon.
Every prudent man dealeth with forethought; but a fool unfoldeth folly.
17 Malbona sendito falas en malfeliĉon; Sed sendito fidela sanigas.
A wicked messenger falleth into evil; but a faithful ambassador is health.
18 Malriĉa kaj hontigata estos tiu, kiu forpuŝas instruon; Sed kiu observas instruon, tiu estos estimata.
Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction; but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.
19 Deziro plenumita estas agrabla por la animo; Sed malagrable por la malsaĝuloj estas deturni sin de malbono.
The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul; and it is an abomination to fools to depart from evil.
20 Kiu iras kun saĝuloj, tiu estos saĝa; Sed kamarado de malsaĝuloj suferos doloron.
He that walketh with wise men shall be wise; but the companion of fools shall smart for it.
21 Pekulojn persekutas malbono; Sed virtulojn rekompencas bono.
Evil pursueth sinners; but to the righteous good shall be repaid.
22 Bonulo heredigas la nepojn; Kaj por virtulo konserviĝas la havo de pekulo.
A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children; and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the righteous.
23 Multe da manĝaĵo estas sur la kampo de malriĉuloj; Sed multaj pereas pro manko de justeco.
Much food is in the tillage of the poor; but there is that is swept away by want of righteousness.
24 Kiu ŝparas sian vergon, tiu malamas sian filon; Sed kiu lin amas, tiu baldaŭ lin punas.
He that spareth his rod hateth his son; but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.
25 Virtulo manĝas, por satigi sian animon; Sed la ventro de malvirtuloj havas mankon.
The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his desire; but the belly of the wicked shall want.
