1 Tiam tumultiĝis la tuta komunumo kaj ekkriis, kaj la popolo ploris en tiu nokto.
That night all the community wept loudly.
2 Kaj ekmurmuris kontraŭ Moseo kaj kontraŭ Aaron ĉiuj Izraelidoj, kaj la tuta komunumo diris al ili: Ho, se ni estus mortintaj en la lando Egipta, aŭ se ni mortus en ĉi tiu dezerto!
All the people of Israel criticized Moses and Aaron. The whole community said to them, “We wish we had died in the land of Egypt, or here in this wilderness!
3 Kaj por kio la Eternulo irigas nin en tiun landon, por ke ni falu de glavo? niaj edzinoj kaj infanoj fariĝos militakiro. Ĉu ne estas pli bone, ke ni revenu Egiptujon?
Why did Yahweh bring us to this land to die by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will become victims. Is it not better for us to return to Egypt?”
4 Kaj ili diris unu al alia: Ni starigu al ni estron, kaj ni reiru Egiptujon.
They said to each another, “Let us choose another leader, and let us return to Egypt.”
5 Tiam Moseo kaj Aaron ĵetiĝis vizaĝaltere antaŭ la tuta anaro de la komunumo de la Izraelidoj.
Then Moses and Aaron lay facedown before all the assembly of the community of the people of Israel.
6 Kaj Josuo, filo de Nun, kaj Kaleb, filo de Jefune, el tiuj, kiuj esplorrigardis la landon, disŝiris siajn vestojn,
Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, who were some of those sent to examine the land, tore their clothes.
7 kaj ili diris al la tuta komunumo de la Izraelidoj jene: La lando, kiun ni trapasis, por esplorrigardi ĝin, tiu lando estas tre, tre bona.
They spoke to all the community of the people of Israel. They said, “The land that we passed through and examined is a very good land.
8 Se la Eternulo estos favorkora al ni, Li venigos nin en tiun landon kaj donos ĝin al ni, tiun landon, en kiu fluas lakto kaj mielo.
If Yahweh is pleased with us, then he will take us into this land and give it to us. The land flows with milk and honey.
9 Nur ne ribelu kontraŭ la Eternulo, kaj ne timu la popolon de la lando, ĉar nia manĝotaĵo ili estas; ilia ŝirmo foriĝis de ili, kaj la Eternulo estas kun ni; ne timu ilin.
But do not rebel against Yahweh, and do not fear the people in the land, for they are bread to us. Their protection will be removed from them, because Yahweh is with us. Do not fear them.”
10 Kaj la tuta komunumo diris, ke oni mortigu ilin per ŝtonoj. Sed la majesto de la Eternulo aperis en la tabernaklo de kunveno antaŭ ĉiuj Izraelidoj.
Then all the congregation said to stone them with stones. But the glory of Yahweh appeared at the tent of meeting to all the people of Israel.
11 Kaj la Eternulo diris al Moseo: Ĝis kiam incitados Min ĉi tiu popolo? kaj ĝis kiam ĝi ne kredos al Mi, malgraŭ ĉiuj pruvosignoj, kiujn Mi faris meze de ĝi?
Yahweh said to Moses, “How long must this people despise me? How long must they fail to trust me, despite all the signs of my power that I have done among them?
12 Mi frapos ĝin per pesto kaj ekstermos ĝin, kaj Mi faros el vi popolon pli grandan kaj pli fortan ol ĝi.
I will attack them with plague, disinherit them, and make from your own clan a nation that will be greater and mightier than they are.”
13 Sed Moseo diris al la Eternulo: Aŭdos la Egiptoj, el inter kiuj Vi elkondukis ĉi tiun popolon per Via forto,
Moses said to Yahweh, “If you do this, then the Egyptians will hear about it, because you rescued this people from them by your power.
14 kaj ili diros al la loĝantoj de tiu lando, kiuj aŭdis, ke Vi, la Eternulo, estas meze de ĉi tiu popolo, kaj ke Vi, la Eternulo, montris Vin al ili okulon kontraŭ okulo, kaj ke Via nubo staras super ili, kaj ke Vi iras antaŭ ili dum la tago en nuba kolono kaj dum la nokto en kolono fajra;
They will tell it to this land's inhabitants. They have heard that you, Yahweh, are present with this people, because you are seen face to face. Your cloud stands over our people. You go before them in a pillar of cloud by day and in a pillar of fire by night.
15 se Vi ekstermos ĉi tiun popolon kiel unu homon, tiam la popoloj, kiuj aŭdis la famon pri Vi, dirus:
Now if you kill this people as one man, then the nations that have heard of your fame will speak and say,
16 Ĉar la Eternulo ne povis venigi ĉi tiun popolon en la landon, pri kiu Li ĵuris al ili, tial Li buĉis ilin en la dezerto.
'Because Yahweh could not take this people into the land that he swore to give them, he has killed them in the wilderness.'
17 Nun montriĝu do granda la forto de mia Sinjoro, laŭ la parolo, kiun Vi diris:
Now, I beg you, use your great power. For you have said,
18 La Eternulo estas longepacienca kaj multe favorkora; Li pardonas kulpon kaj krimon, sed antaŭ Li neniu estas senkulpa; Li punas la kulpon de patroj sur filoj kaj nepoj, en la tria kaj kvara generacioj.
'Yahweh is slow to anger and abundant in covenant faithfulness. He forgives iniquity and transgression. He will by no means clear the guilty when he brings the punishment of the ancestors' sin on their descendants, to the third and fourth generation.'
19 Ho, pardonu la kulpon de ĉi tiu popolo laŭ Via granda favorkoreco kaj kiel Vi pardonadis al ĉi tiu popolo de Egiptujo ĝis nun.
Pardon, I plead with you, this people's sin because of the greatness of your covenant faithfulness, just as you have always forgiven this people from the time they were in Egypt until now.”
20 Kaj la Eternulo diris: Mi pardonis konforme al via diro;
Yahweh said, “I have pardoned them in keeping with your request,
21 sed kiel Mi vivas kaj kiel de la gloro de la Eternulo estas plena la tuta tero,
but truly, as I live, and as all the earth will be filled with my glory,
22 ĉiuj homoj, kiuj vidis Mian gloron kaj Miajn pruvosignojn, kiujn Mi faris en Egiptujo kaj en la dezerto, kaj provis Min jam dek fojojn kaj ne aŭskultis Mian voĉon,
all those people who saw my glory and the signs of power that I did in Egypt and in the wilderness—they have still tempted me these ten times and have not listened to my voice.
23 ne vidos la landon, pri kiu Mi ĵuris al iliaj patroj, kaj ĉiuj, kiuj incitis Min, ne vidos ĝin.
So I say that they will certainly not see the land about which I made an oath to their ancestors. Not one of them who despised me will see it,
24 Sed Mian sklavon Kaleb, ĉar estis en li spirito alia kaj li estis obeema al Mi, lin Mi venigos en la landon, en kiun li iris, kaj lia idaro heredos ĝin.
except for my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit. He has followed me fully; I will bring him into the land which he went to examine. His descendants will possess it.
25 Sed la Amalekidoj kaj Kanaanidoj loĝas en la valo; morgaŭ turnu vin kaj ekiru en la dezerton sur la vojo al la Ruĝa Maro.
(Now the Amalekites and Canaanites lived in the valley.) Tomorrow turn and go to the wilderness by the way of the Sea of Reeds.”
26 Kaj la Eternulo ekparolis al Moseo kaj al Aaron, dirante:
Yahweh spoke to Moses and to Aaron. He said,
27 Ĝis kiam ĉi tiu malbona komunumo murmuros kontraŭ Mi? la murmuradon de la Izraelidoj, kiun ili murmuras kontraŭ Mi, Mi aŭdis.
“How long must I tolerate this evil community that criticizes me? I have heard the complaining of the people of Israel against me.
28 Diru al ili: Kiel Mi vivas, diras la Eternulo, kiel vi parolis al Miaj oreloj, tiel Mi faros al vi:
Say to them, 'As I live,' says Yahweh, 'as you have spoken in my hearing, I will do this to you:
29 en ĉi tiu dezerto falos viaj kadavroj, kaj el ĉiuj viaj kalkulitoj, laŭ via tuta kalkulo, en la aĝo de dudek jaroj kaj pli, kiuj murmuris kontraŭ Mi,
Your dead bodies will fall in this wilderness, all you who complained against me, you who were counted in the census, the whole number of the people from twenty years old and upward.
30 neniu venos en la landon, pri kiu Mi levis Mian manon, ke Mi loĝigos vin en ĝi, neniu krom Kaleb, filo de Jefune, kaj Josuo, filo de Nun.
You will certainly not go into the land that I promised to make your home, except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.
31 Viajn infanojn, pri kiuj vi diris, ke ili fariĝos militakiro, Mi venigos tien, kaj ili ekkonos la landon, kiun vi malŝatis.
But your little ones who you said would be victims, I will take them into the land. They will experience the land that you have rejected!
32 Sed vi — viaj kadavroj falos en ĉi tiu dezerto.
As for you, your dead bodies will fall in this wilderness.
33 Kaj viaj filoj estos paŝtistoj en la dezerto dum kvardek jaroj, kaj portos vian malĉastecon, ĝis kiam viaj kadavroj konsumiĝos en la dezerto.
Your children will be shepherds in the wilderness for forty years. They must bear the consequences of your acts of rebellion until the end of your corpses in the wilderness.
34 Laŭ la nombro de la tagoj, dum kiuj vi esplorrigardis la landon, kvardek tagoj, po jaro pro ĉiu tago, vi portos la punon pro via malbonago dum kvardek jaroj, por ke vi ekkonu Mian malfavoron.
Just as the number of the days during which you examined the land—forty days, you must likewise bear the consequences of your sins for forty years—one year for every day, and you must know what it is like for me to oppose you.
35 Mi, la Eternulo, tion diris: tion Mi faros al tiu tuta malbona komunumo, kiu ribelis kontraŭ Mi; en ĉi tiu dezerto ili pereos kaj ĉi tie ili mortos.
I, Yahweh, have spoken. I will certainly do this to all this evil community that is gathered together against me. They will be completely cut off, and here they will die.'”
36 Kaj la viroj, kiujn Moseo sendis, por esplorrigardi la landon, kaj kiuj revenis kaj murmurigis kontraŭ li la tutan komunumon, disvastigante malbonan famon pri la lando —
So the men Moses sent to spy out the land, who returned and made the entire community grumble against Moses by spreading a bad report about the land—
37 tiuj viroj, kiuj disvastigis malbonan famon pri la lando, mortis de pesto antaŭ la Eternulo.
these men who had brought out a bad report about the land were struck down, and they died of a plague before Yahweh.
38 Sed Josuo, filo de Nun, kaj Kaleb, filo de Jefune, restis vivaj el tiuj viroj, kiuj iris, por esplorrigardi la landon.
Of those men who had gone to spy out the land, only Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh remained alive.
39 Kaj Moseo diris tiujn vortojn al ĉiuj Izraelidoj, kaj la popolo tre malĝojis.
When Moses reported these words to all the people of Israel, they mourned very deeply.
40 Kaj ili leviĝis frumatene, kaj iris sur la supron de la monto, dirante: Jen ni estas, kaj ni iru sur la lokon, pri kiu parolis la Eternulo; ĉar ni pekis.
They rose up early in the morning and went to the top of the mountain and said, “Look, we are here, and we will go to the place that Yahweh has promised, for we have sinned.”
41 Sed Moseo diris: Por kio vi kontraŭagas al la vortoj de la Eternulo? tio ja ne sukcesos.
But Moses said, “Why are you now violating Yahweh's command? You will not succeed.
42 Ne iru, ĉar la Eternulo ne estas inter vi; kaj ne estu frapataj antaŭ viaj malamikoj.
Do not go, because Yahweh is not with you to prevent you from being defeated by your enemies.
43 Ĉar la Amalekidoj kaj la Kanaanidoj estas tie antaŭ vi, kaj vi falos de glavo; ĉar pro tio, ke vi deturniĝis de la Eternulo, la Eternulo ne estos kun vi.
The Amalekites and Canaanites are there, and you will die by the sword because you turned back from following Yahweh. So he will not be with you.”
44 Sed ili obstinis, kaj iris sur la supron de la monto; tamen la kesto de la interligo de la Eternulo kaj Moseo ne eliris el la tendaro.
But they presumed to go up into the hill country; however, neither Moses nor the ark of the covenant of Yahweh left the camp.
45 Kaj malsupreniris la Amalekidoj kaj la Kanaanidoj, kiuj loĝis sur la monto, kaj batis ilin kaj persekutis ilin ĝis Ĥorma.
Then the Amalekites came down, and also the Canaanites who lived on those hills. They attacked the Israelites and defeated them all the way to Hormah.
